I recently started playing Impossible Mission knowing ahead of time it was impossible. I just wanted to see how much fun it is, and I did enjoy it quite a bit even without being able to beat it. I was confused about a couple of things though. There is more than one layout to the base, is there a set number of maps or are these completely random as to where and what kind of rooms there are? Are the pieces random, set, or a combination of the two? If the pieces were random couldn't it be possible to get lucky and have all of them hidden in searchable furniture? I know these questions have probably been answered somewhere before, but I didn't find them. And about the letter, I can believe some neighborhood somewhere in the country was pro-7800. Just because all those NES games were out, it doesn't mean people had them. I very rarely got new games so I could see a group of friends who only had a limited selection of early NES games and thought the 7800 copies of the NES games they had were better. Highly unlikey, but not impossible.

I think I came up with a pretty good analogy about how I feel as a Jaguar fan (and maybe for some other Jaguar fans too), but if you don't know college football it probably won't make any sense at all so I'll help as much as possible. Think of the Jaguar as tiny Rice University in Houston, Texas. Now Rice (here more like Atari) used to be in a major conference (major company) but now is stuck in a smaller conference with no prestige attached to it. Rice used to be a major competitor to the University of Texas (think Nintendo or Sega), but now they are just a guaranteed win on the schedule (no real competition to the big boys like Sony or the others). Usually Rice has to play at Texas, but sometimes they get Texas to come down to Houston for a game. Of course Texas won't play at 60 years old Rice Stadium so they make Rice play their home game at Reliant (home of the NFL Houston Texans) instead. To me the Jaguar forum is like Rice Stadium, it should be home but it's not always. For the "home" game Rice will have about 5,000 fans show up while visiting Texas has about 40,000 to 50,000 there. Now as the home team (forum) you know there are going to be visiting fans rooting against you (posters who don't like the Jaguar), you just don't expect to be greatly outnumbered by them. That is kind of what it feels like to me occasionly around here, like the Jaguar fans are outnumbered by the non-fans. Now, this is probably more about perception than reality, but it sometimes does feel that way. I think that is why some Jaguar fans get a little defensive at times. I know there are plenty of forum members who know nothing about NCAA football so I hope I was able to get my point across to everyone. Let me reiterate that there are probably always more Jaguar fanatics than Jaguar non-fans or people who are indifferent in this forum, sometimes it just seems like the opposite. Perception IS 9/10 of the law, or maybe possesion is reality.

I saw him post on another site, maybe Sega-16, that whatever site he was on was the only one he always posted on. He mentioned Atari Age and some other sites as ones he would fade in and out on. After making some fairly long and "quotie" posts lately and knowing how much of that he did, I find myself thinking about how much time he put into his posts. Because there were times when I was doing some of the quoting and I was thinking to myself, "I don't know if this is worth it."

I never thought I was giving anybody a "treat" but, I did think I was giving some people an insight into a Jaguar fan's mind that they might not have had before. The reason I mentioned that I usually stay out of these threads was so that people wouldn't think that this was the same old stuff they've heard before, at least not from me. From your last sentence I am to understand that you believe the Jaguar is not a "worthwhile" system and that it has no "worthwhile" games for it? I never said negative things should never be posted, I was just stating that I have not seen any positive comments regarding the Jaguar from somebody I know is a fan of the system. You read much more from that statement than there actually was. Agreed. Why, because the Jaguar is my favorite system of all-time? I'm not trying to convince anyone the Jaguar is better than the SNES, Genesis, Saturn, Playstation, or even the 3DO. All I'm saying is that the Jaguar is my personal favorite. I know it can't stack up with those other systems when it comes to game libraries, but I get more enjoyment out of the Jaguar than out of those other systems. Wow, now you are calling the people that don't agree with the super-mature and impossibly-intelligent wood_jl "mentally-challenged." Sure I can follow that logic, can you understand that I don't think the library is lackluster? There are quite a few Jaguar games that I really like and I probably enjoy about 75% of the library if not more. You think the library is lackluster, I do not. I accept your opinion, but the problem comes from you not accepting mine. You cannot accept a person's differing opinion about a postion that you feel so strongly about. Do I have a finite amount of passion, or a limited number of things I can be passionate about? I don't think being passionate about the Jaguar means I have less passion to give to politics or that I now don't have enough passion "slots" to be passionate about religion. I never said a game console was more important thing anything else, I think a have a completely healthy perspective on it. Why did you insist on the name-calling? Calling me "son" does not make people think that you are the mature and older poster trying to teach the young immature one something. Actually from reading your posts I believe you are more "pumped up" about the subject than me. It almost seems that you dislike the Jaguar more than I like it. Again another personal shot thrown in there for good measure. I am passionate about many other issues besides the Jaguar. My passion for the Jaguar does not affect my passion for the other issues. Emphasis undrstood.

See this is what I was talking about when I said some people just cannot accept that other people can like/love a game that they don't. When I read your response it says to me that you just cannot understand someone thinking Trevor McFur is just as good as say R-Type. I really enjoy Trevor McFur, just as much as some of the shoot'em ups that are accepted as being "great." I'll give you an example of me not liking a game some people think is really good. I know some people, one guy in particular, who really like I-War and I don't. I'm sure these people have played plenty of 3D vehicular/flying games and that there is just something about this game they really enjoy that I just don't get. Like I said earlier, the Jaguar is my favorite system of all-time. Would I say it is the best system? No, but no matter how much more superior the SNES, Genesis, Saturn, or Playstation libraries are, they still don't compare to the Jaguar TO ME. Again, this is the part people cannot get over, they just cannot fathom someone liking the Jaguar more than those other systems. Instead of accepting it, they instead tell people to stop thinking with emotion or nostalgia so they can see the light. Unfortunately for them I can see the light and it doesn't change my opinion and feelings about the Jaguar.

So you say you only told people to "grow up" when they started the name calling, yet you said it in your very first post in this thread. Now this could be some carry over from another thread, but it looks to me that you came in and in your very first post in the thread you told people your opinion and that if they didn't agree with you then they are only thinking with emotion and should grow up. Please correct me if I somehow misinterpreted your use of "grow up." P.S. I love the language, it really screams "I'm discussing this rationally."
-
I usually stay out of these kinds of threads and I know nobody has posted in it in a couple of days, but I wanted to give my two cents. To wood_jl, when you are discussing something with someone and your response it to "grow up" or leave it to the "big boys" when they don't agree with you I usually accept that to mean that whoever said it is a troll. If anytime someone disagrees with you, you automatically think they are just not mature enough to see your side of things, then you probably need to learn to accept that mature and intelligent people can disagree on things. To Austin, I know you like the Jaguar and we have had plenty of cordial exchanges over the years, but I really can't remember the last time I saw you post something positive about the Jaguar. Maybe you do all the time and I'm just not seeing them, but it seems that you only post negative things about the Jaguar lately. To lots of you out there, I see people post stuff like "if you say you like the Jaguar's controller you are just a blind fanboy" quite a bit. The controller is not the only Jaguar item that gets this treatment, but it is the one I see the most. I love the Jaguar controller, I think it is a great size, I like the feel, I like the keypad, and I've never had a problem with the D-pad. The only real downside is the fact that it has only three face buttons. I can't believe Atari released a controller in 1993 with only three action buttons. But, like I said the controller is not the only thing that gets treated that way and that is what annoys me the most. I see gamers all the time make some kind of statement like that and they are completely oblivious to the fact that it is possible for someone to like, or even love, something they don't. The Jaguar is probably my favorite system of all time. Do I think it is the best system of all time? No, of course not, but it is the system that gets the most play from me. And it's not like I have a narrow video game experience, I've been gaming since the 2600, and at various times consoles from Nintendo, Sega, and Microsoft have all been my favorite of the time. I just keep coming back to the Jaguar. I still play my other systems quite frequently, I tend to get in a system "mood" where I play one system like crazy for a while, but the I'm in the mood for the Jaguar more than the other systems. So there is my two cents. Hopefully I have helped some people understand why some Jaguar fans like myself get a little tired of hearing the Jaguar trashed all the time. And one more thing, just because you say you are not trashing the Jaguar, doesn't mean you aren't. I see people say I'm not picking on the Jaguar and then got on to trash it thoroughly. Actions speak louder than words, and your actions (which are admittedly typing WORDS) say you don't like the Jaguar.

Jaguar HSC Revamped, Season 4, ROUND 6

3:35.1 We don't need to write down every lap time right, just the end time? -
Actually looking at the map again, the room on the right has a teleport door in it also. I counted all the doors in the map and I came up with 5. If each door only leads to another door then there should always be an even number of doors. So my guess is that the programmers forgot to put in the corresponding door. Of course there is a chance the other door is hidden and you have to find it or that there is a secret to getting one of the other doors to take you to there instead of where it normally goes.
-
If you look at the map with the clouds showing, you can see the secret room to the left of the turret has what looks like a cloud touching it at the bottom right corner. Using that as a guide I know how to get to the secret room to the left. You get to it by going through one of the teleport doors in the level. I still don't know how to get to the other room. I found three doors in the main part of the level: two are at the bottom of the level that let you skip a little bit of the level and the one in the second turret that is guarded by a knight leads to the secret room on the left. After I cleared the secret room out I cloud jumped to the right secret room to see if it still had stuff in it. I thought it might be some copy or mirror of the other room, but it still had stuff in it.

Hopefully this works. http://youtu.be/oQPLdh21rsU

I made it all the way to the right and there is an interior castle/turret section, but I don't know how to get in it. Are there any warps or teleporters in that level or anything? I took a pic of the Bubster standing on the last cloud and a short video. Here is the pic, but I'm having problems with the video.
-
I tried it, but I wasn't doing too well. I actually got farther trying go to the right. I probably made it to the 5th cloud with my best attempt. Actually looking at the map again, I missed the sixth cloud. If I would have made it, I would have only had two more clouds.
-
Looking at your maps, it looks like there is also cloud platforms leading back to the right also.
-
It wouldn't be a great video, but I'm sure I could get something.
-
When I first posed the challenge to you doctorclu I could get to the 10th cloud, but it has been a little while since I played so I'm sure I couldn't make it that far now. As far as controlling Bubsy I learned the jump-glide from you. I attempted it many many times so I had the locations of the clouds down pretty well also. I'm sure someday somebody will get to the end using save states on an emulator, but I would like to see somebody make it on real hardware.
-
Come on doctorclu, I have already given you a Bubsy challenge! A challenge for the ages... Well maybe not, but you are my only hope. Wait, there is another...

150,414 on my first try. Not bad considering I haven't played this game in probably over a decade. -

56,300. It's good to know I would have only got 1 point even if I would have been on time. -
Asteroids Deluxe was also very hard, but I did finally get gold for both point buster and survivalist. I just started playing Millipede, the survivalist medal on that one looks like it's going to be tough. I don't have either Amidar or H.E.R.O. Next time I'm on I'll add you as I don't have any of the challenge achievements since none of my friends have Game Room.

Jaguar HSC Revamped, Season 4, ROUND 3 - Zoop

I thought we might get a little extra time with this one since we didn't get the full two weeks. -
I'm not sure which way to say this: that the flyer took a little over 3 months to work or that it took just 8 posts.

Question about Cannon Fodder on the Jaguar...
jeremiahjt replied to ataridave's topic in Atari Jaguar
How did you avoid that screen? I'm assuming you just pressed Start before it had a chance to pop up. It's the second bullet on the guide from a few posts above. Just hit the A, B, and C buttons and it will skip it or maybe just display for a very short time, like less than a second. -
Question about Cannon Fodder on the Jaguar...
jeremiahjt replied to ataridave's topic in Atari Jaguar
I've beat every level in Cannon Fodder and never had any bugs pop up. Of course I did avoid the end of mission screen like the guide suggests, but I never ran into any in-mission bugs. -
Jaguar HSC Revamped, Season 4, ROUND 2

I just typed out a long rebuttal and for some reason hitting the backspace button made my browser go back and I lost everything. So I'll summarize: me likey and you don't.
