  1. So this game was 100% complete with all the bugs removed and playtested and all back in the day and Atari decided not to release it? That seems strange considering this was one of the games on the Jag CD box IIRC, so one would think it should have been finished still in the Jag's lifetime. Of course the Jag CD's lifetime wasn't that long and Atari might have seen the writing on the wall when this game was done.

I guess I'm just wondering how the game got to this point. I'm always curious about the journey these games take before they get to this place.

Unfortunately I'm low on money right now, but I think I might be able to swing it in the next 3 months or so.

  2. 1,812,400. I could have had more, but I still got packing to do and had to get back to it.

I knew that the two types of enemies would attack each other but I never really noticed until this play through. Early on when I was in the Alien ship I could hear the Predator taunting me so I knew he was close. I walked into a new corridor where I was immediately attacked by a couple of marines and then I heard the Predator scream. The Predator was invisible in between me and one of the marines and when the marine shot at me he hit the Predator. The Predator turned visible and then one of my cocoons hatched. When I went back to that spot I found a dead Predator, the marines finished him off for me. Pretty cool except for the loss of points.

I never really played as the Alien that much so I didn't understand how the cocoon worked. Once one of the cocoons reaches maturity it doesn't hatch until your current Alien dies. It sounds obvious enough but I never knew exactly when it would hatch. A few times I found myself about dead with a cocoon ready to go and I would just kill myself with a barrel to get a fresh Alien (and the points from the barrel).

The third thing I noticed was the high score list. Your entry is a different color depending on who you played as.

I'm glad the Alien was chosen to play because 90% of the time I play as the marine and the other 10% as the Predator. I never gave the Alien much of a chance and always thought it wasn't that fun, now I know better. This helps solidify this game as my favorite Jag game.

  3. This one is probably going to be more about perseverance than skill. Since we can cacoon marines whoever is willing to wait it out the most is going to score a lot. Hopefully, this will make me finally beat the game with the alien.

What cheats are going to be allowed? I personally don't like cheats, but since we established with Super Burnout that we allow cheats we better go ahead and figure it out.

  4. IF you click on forums? Go to this page http://www.atariage.com/ no clicking and see what I mean. It should be visible somewhere (I know the other links are for software databases/rarity guides) but at least the 800/XL/XE/Computer should be shown directly even if it goes to a welcome page saying about the 8-bit forum :ponder:

To be fair, you did say the main forum page, which is this:

    http://www.atariage.com/forums/

If someone wants to put together a nice page describing the Atari 8-bit computers, complete with some spiffy pictures and stuff, I will GLADLY add "800" or something along those lines to the site masthead and have it land on that page. The page can then link to the Atari 8-bit forum. Perhaps that could be the impetus for me to spend some time updating the site so I can work in a proper 8-bit section (something I did actually start working on at one point). Perhaps this should be another thread.

    ..Al

That would be nice (and I'm sure a lot of work), but I would really like a section for the XEGS like there is for the other consoles. The XEGS was created and advertised as a game console and not a computer, if I remember correctly, and it would be nice to have sections and rarity guides for all the Atari consoles. It would also be much simpler to just have an XEGS section compared to a whole 8-bit section.

  5. Finished all 15 levels in Bubsy and had time to spare so thought I would play some Zool.

    44,175.

Obviously I like Bubsy more than Zool. :P

(though I did start a collection of Zool long enough to get the Japan version of the first game)

Not to get too off topic here, but did you ever discover the answer to my question I posed to you Doc? When we played Bubsy in the HSC the season before last I asked you about some cloud platforming on the giant level I think. I was wondering if you ever figured out where that path went.

  6. First score is 128,365.

As far as easy mode changes, the only thing different is the number of lives and how many items you have to collect to get 99. On easy mode I believe you can get 99 without finding any secrets or killing any enemies and of course for normal you have to kill at least some bad guys or find secrets to get 99.

  7. Wait... darrrrr (insert retard sound here).. the better times are the lower times, so it won't work just like a typical scoring session.. hrm.. OK, yeah, I'm going to have to think about how to do this, haha.

Yeah that's why I was saying we could give the last place finisher a certain point total, because then we could use the 100 point rule to fill in the rest.

  8. You know I always get killed by that scorpion too. I always thought that I just wasn't as good at 5200 Pitfall! with the 5200 controllers as I was with 2600 Pitfall! You may be right though, it might be impossible.

  9. So my wife and I have been playing Atari Karts lately on a quest to beat the game. It was going along pretty well until we got to the Jaguar Ace circuit. The Borregas Cup was difficult but we finally conquered it, but the Carleton Cup is kicking our rears. The Beach level is killing us. We've been able to find a secret in every race up until the Beach one, although the one in the Ice level isn't very helpful. I'm not sure if there is not a secret or we just can't find it. If there is not one then I guess we're just going to have to beat it on our own, but I'm hoping one of you can help us out.

  10. This List is From Wikipedia:

    1. PAC-MAN

    2. PITFALL!

    3. MISSILE COMMAND

    4. DEMON ATTACK

    5. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL

    6. ATLANTIS

    7. ADVENTURE

    8. RIVER RAID

    9. KABOOM!

    10. SPACE INVADERS

I've seen this list before and I just have trouble believing it. I know it's only anecdotal evidence, but in my wanderings I have come across so many copies of Asteroids and Defender, especially Asteroids, that I can't fathom those two not being in the top 5, much less the top 10.
