  1. I got a type 2 XL keyboard from ebay for my 800XL which feels great but somehow taking it out of the wrapping it came in, the power light part of the circuit board snapped off. It's slightly annoying not having the power light and I am wondering if I should try gluing that corner back together. So my question(s) for keyboard experts are: 1. Will I damage the keyboard or XL by running it with the corner of the board missing and not connected? 2. If I could glue it back together, could that potentially make things worse by possibly not having a fully connected circuit if the break isn't as clean as it looks? It looks like a clean break but I'm wondering if I should try it.
  2. Thanks for the info, I must have got lucky with my USB-Serial adapter since I plugged it in to the RPi and my SIO2PC cable and everything worked great! It's a generic adapter with no labeling that I found for $4 at my local electronics surplus store.
  3. I got a SIO2PC cable around 15 years ago from Lotharek off of ebay. It has an Atari SIO connector on one end and a serial DB9 on the other end. It has worked great over the years but I would like to use it with a Raspberry Pi and was wondering if I could just plug the serial end of the cable into a Serial-USB adapter and have it work. I did some searching and it seems like everyone is doing basically the same thing by building their own SIO to USB cables. It seems like the hard work should have been done already with my SIO 2 serial cable and was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of, a couple of people on youtube said they damaged their adapter somehow. Thanks for any info anyone has!
  4. I moved on in 1989 or 1990 when our family got its first 8088 PC. I didn't want to move on but the software scene for the A8 was completely dead by then. I mothballed the stuff and my mom ended up losing it all somehow. In the early 2000s, by chance I saw a 7800 for sale at a local game store. I had to buy it since I had never owned one and after I got a few games, the nostalgia came roaring back. I ended up buying A8 computers, games and disk drives off of ebay and fortunately my best friend still had the old 800XL I had sold him 15 years previously so I could get a 130XE. I traded him a better condition 800XL I had bought from ebay so I can say I still have my original 8 bit computer.
  5. I think the 400 was hideous even back in its day. The keyboard is borderline unusable and I can't imagine why anyone would want one now instead of an 800, unless it was like your first computer or something.
  6. I don't have anywhere near your collection, but I know how you feel. I don't think I have touched my old Atari 8 bit or 16 bit stuff in almost two years.
  7. Damn it, Encounter was up for a vote and I missed it! Serves me right for never checking in around here, has anyone every got to the end of Encounter? Is there an end?
  8. Did someone say Kaboom contest? I may have to show up to defend my CGE 2001 Kaboom tournament title. I am going to try to ignore that that was already 13 years ago. Where does the time go?
  9. Getting off topic but you are absolutely right about this drive, I drove it last year in the summer at midnight and it was absolutely beautiful. People might say how could you tell at midnight but in the summer the sun doesn't set and the light stays an odd twilight hue all night. Made everything look even cooler.
  10. I wish Atarian7 the best of luck! I had a dream of hitting 999,999 but could never get past about 35k. Kaboom is one of the all time great games, the only game I play when I break out the 2600 every now and then.
  11. The blu ray drives on launch model PS3s have a high failure rate, if you're lucky you can clean the lens with a Qtip soaked in cleaning alcohol and it will work again. There are several good youtube videos to show you how to do that. If that doesn't work, then you have a bad drive and can search ebay for replacement drives for your particular model.
  12. These are in my favorite games of all time list. I am tempted to try and beat rdrunner but probably will run out of time. I do remember getting 134750 in Jumpman Jr. as a kid, will have to try it again to see if I remember all the tricks.
  13. For anyone wanting a quick 20 million credits in GT6, check this out, I did it and can verify it works. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gran-turismo-6-money-glitch-found/1100-6416639/
  14. They have already ripped out features from the PS4, in a sense. It will not do DLNA local media server streaming which the PS3 does. Some months I use this on the PS3 more than play games on it. This is a big enough deal to me that I will never consider buying a PS4 unless they add this feature..
  15. I think optical drives are actually pretty reliable overall, it's just that Sony's haven't been in the PS3 generation. I had my launch gen PS3 optical drive die on me a month after its warranty run out and three friends of mine all had PS3s of various vintages have their optical drive fail. I have not heard of this kind of drive failure with Xboxes or blu ray/DVD players in general so I am inclined to blame Sony for using inferior parts. Hard drives also fail so I don't think you are that much better off relying on them.
  16. Totally agree, I have been playing Disgaea 3 for three months now, got it for free with PS+ which will give you all the games you need as a Vita owner. Be prepared to surrender even more of your free time, as Disgaea 4 is coming out soon for the Vita, although I will skip it sinceI played the hell out of it on the PS3. As for PSP games, Valkyria Chronicles 2 looks OK on it but I had to download it through the PS3. Not sure why as it seems to run fine on the Vita. People always complain about no games being out for the Vita but I have finished Uncharted, Gravity Rush (another fun and free PS+ game), played a lot of Hot Shots Golf and FIFA Soccer and am halfway through Persona 4. Mortal Kombat is a lot of fun on the Vita too and the VIta has been seeing a lot more gaming time from me than the PS3. For anyone thinking about getting one, think about it on Black Friday, I got the Assassins Creed Vita bundle last year for $180 from amazon and it included a 4 gig memory card and free Assassins Creed game, which I don't know when I will ever get to.
  17. I don't see a whole lot of difference between GT5 and 6, the thing that really bugs me is that the force feedback on steering wheels is way overdone IMO and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off. I love my wheel when I play F1 games on the PC where I can turn the force feedback off but it's rather annoying I can't do this on the PS3. EDIT: I just learned via google that the power supply on the wheel is only for force feedback, sounds like the wheel will work just fine not being plugged in.
  18. As most people have said, I find the lack of a camera a good thing, I don't want Microsoft watching inside my house. I would never pay $60 for a camera and don't want one at all. So to me and it looks like everyone else here it is a $100 price difference, consider M$'s idiotic internet check in and used game policies and I think Microsoft is in big trouble. I will call it right now and say Microsoft will remove their daily internet check in requirement before the XBOne launches as I think that will absolutely kill them.
  19. That is sad to hear about Logitech pulling out of the wheel market, I have been very happy with the $125 http://www.amazon.co... steering wheel for a couple of years now. It works with PS3 and PC, not sure about PS2. I mostly just play the F1 games on PC with it and it is fantastic.
  20. I have to try this out as a friend of mine says that it is outstanding. RPS loves it too so I will check it out this week.
  21. There's plenty of stuff that is user replaceable on a PS3 but replacing anything except your hard drive will void your warranty and will probably result in Sony refusing to look at your unit if you ever tried to send it in for repairs. Given the cost of Sony repairs, I took the risk anyway and cleaned my blu ray drive and restored my PS3 to working order a couple of years ago. Sounds like the OP has a different problem though.
  22. Hope this is more like M&M 4-6 and less like all the rest.
  23. This has been announced as coming out on Steam as well, the thread title should be changed to reflect this. I may have to try this out, I only know this game by reputation but it seems to have a good one.
  24. I've hated EA ever since they cut support for the Atari 8 bit, starting a tidal wave of everyone cutting support for it that killed the system a few years earlier than it should have been. Not to mention they were a big factor in the demise of the Sega Dreamcast, and they are a million times worse now than they were then.
