  1. Great idea, I should do that with ME3 except I don't want Origin on my PC at all spying on me.
  2. This is probably the only recent sci-fi RPG that has been made and then KOTOR before that. I really liked Fallout NV but you don't have a spaceship or explore cool planets or anything. Heck you're stuck in real life locations around Las Vegas. If you want to go old school, Starflight was great but it's very old and won't look good on your new PC. I still need to play Starflight 2, it's been sitting in my backlog for about 20 years now.
  3. I finished Persona 3 about 4 years ago and that sounds about right, I think I took 80 but I got a little too into trying to fuse rare personas. Persona 4 sat in my to do list for so long I went ahead and got the new version for the Vita and finally started it last week.
  4. Great point, but please don't give the film industry any ideas
  5. I started Dark Souls on PC last month and it is pure evil, but in a good way of course. Prepare to spend a lot of time on that one. And to the guy asking about Disgaea, they are releasing a sequel to the first one this fall. Apparently Disgaea 2 was not that sequel, I don't know much about them except I played the hell out of Disgaea 4.
  6. I have had terrible luck with the optical drive, the stock one died and I replaced it. Then the replacement stopped working but at least I was able to clean it and it still works now. Many other people I know have had similar problems so I would not recommend this model.
  7. In the tradition of the Animaniacs, I will list some good and bad things about Sony. Good: Keeping PSN and online gaming free, a lot of good exclusives, PSN + is almost worth it, good hardware if you don't get a launch version, I use my PS3 as much for media streaming as for video games on it. Bad: Forcing 15 minute firmware updates on users far too often to keep trying to fix their own security problems, removing features like Linux retroactively from consoles, poor hardware (the first gen PS3s were as bad as the first gen Xbox 360s in my book), going along with EA's horrible online pass philosophy, limiting digital downloads to 2 consoles after first allowing 5. And the news about digital downloads not carrying over from the PS3 to the PS4 is going to be a disaster for them as more people become aware of it. And of course lik-sang but as I recall Nintendo shares the blame with that. I agree with most others that both Sony and Microsoft are getting way too controlling in their attitudes about what people should be able to do with their hardware and software and that along with all the bad things mentioned above are why I will wait a few years to get a PS4 if I get one at all.
  8. I think that was a rumor and is not confirmed.
  9. I remember saving up forever and splitting the VCS with my dad back in '80 or so, it was $150 at that time.
  10. I remember Mortal Kombat II costing almost $80 for the Genesis when I bought it in the mid '90s, but my friends and I definitely got my money's worth out of that game. I mostly did PC gaming in the '90s and remember most new games cost $50 then, interestingly the same amount most new PC games cost today.
  11. I asked David Crane this at a CGE a few years back and he said that Activision is just a name now and has absolutely no connection with anyone who did anything on the VCS back in the day. Anyone feel free to correct me, but I think he said the Activision name was sold to Mediagenic and that was the end of the involvement of any of the original Activision's members.
  12. I think we need a PC Modern Gaming sub-forum before that, not sure why there isn't one. The PC is where I do most of my modern gaming now. Steam sales are the best!
  13. There is a classic mode, although I can't imagine this game working without paddle controllers.
  14. IGN scores have always seemed inflated to me, I stopped reading it years ago. Even after Gerstmann gate at gamespot, their scores seem more reliable but are still higher than I would give. What really annoys me is that no review ever mentions things like DRM.
  15. Ubisoft is just as bad now, the last two games I bought from them (Assassins Creed Brotherhood for PS3 and Ghost Recon Future Soldier for PC) basically do what you show Capcom doing, having a one page advertisement for something else with a nice small message saying "Manual available in-game." It infuriates me to no end that devs bitch and moan about used game sales/piracy yet don't lift a finger to reward a paying customer. In ye olden times, you would get really nice instruction manuals, cloth maps, spell books, etc. to encourage you to buy the game and not pirate it. I feel like an idiot for going out of my way to buy the retail edition of Ghost Recon to get a cool manual but instead I got nothing. I can understand this cheapness when the game gets re-released as an under $20 game but it is inexcusable for full price products to ship with no goodies whatsoever.
  16. I think both the PS3 and X360 will outlast the PS2, which has had a great run. If memory serves, the PS3 is about to hit its 6th anniversary which is about how old the PS2 was when the PS3 came out, yet so far the PS4 is just rumor and won't be out for another year at least.
  17. I remember getting really pissed at that part, but yes stick with it, it's a fantastic game and the combat is even better than Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which at that time IMHO had the best and most fluid feeling combat in these type of games. I like games that are over the top ridiculous with a sense of humor about it and Bayonetta delivered. It's the only game of its type this gen that I can play again and again.
  18. Bayonetta is one of my favorite games this gen, hope the sequel comes to other consoles eventually. Seems rather odd that it would be exclusive to the one console manufacturer that the original game didn't come out on.
  19. I would second this, but be warned that in many games you will have to reverse the vertical default direction in .ini files. It is by far the cheapest option though.
  20. You cannot get trophies when you use the other persons' save file, the game explicitly tells you that when you load it. I don't know why the game makers didn't keep profile information and edit data information in separate files.
  21. Very true. Mine failed and three out of three other friends of mine also had 1st gen ps3s that had the laser fail. Although sometimes when the laser fails, you can manually clean it and then it will read discs again but I would just get a slim and then get a separate ps2 as Boog says if you really want that compatibility. If you really want a launch ps3 for some reason, I will gladly sell you mine.
  22. If you have the PS3, you can easily download and use an edit file that has all the real teams and player names for Tecmo Bowl Throwback already done. I'd include a link but I don't have it handy, googling should lead to it. Okoye will rise again!
  23. I got Arkham City a month or two ago on a Steam sale for $15. The PC version came with the Catwoman DLC missions too. The moral is never buy anything with DLC on day 1. Check that, you should pretty much never buy anything on day 1 no matter what.
  24. The $60 price model has gone away in a sense. If you wait even two months after a game has come out and that game is not by Blizzard, you will find it for $40. If you wait for 6 - 12 months, you can probably find it for $15 or less on a Steam sale. I don't remember game prices ever dropping this quickly in the old days, I think there are more good games out now than there is time to play them. Simple economics says too much supply, prices fall. As for consoles, I personally think the next gen will crash hard. People needed PS3/360s to game in HD with their new HDTVs but the next gen will not have that crutch. I think that graphics are good enough for most people now with the PS3/360 and with the economy in bad shape, only the hardcore are going to be ponying up for new consoles. I think Sony/Microsoft are smart in not launching a new generation now. I also think game manufacturers in the past year are finally paying the price a little bit for their constant nickel and diming of the consumer with DLC ripoffs and other online shenanigans and restrictions. I am particularly pleased to see EA's stock price fall so hard over the last year as they are the worst of the bunch.
  25. Wheel of Time by GT Interactive for the PC. Was like Hexen in that you had spells to use as well as weapons but the variety of spells was huge. This game was a blast and I felt guilty afterwards since I paid only $6.99 at EB. This was when EB actually had PC games before Gamestop ruined them.
