I had a hard enough time imaging Sonic and other Sega properties on other consoles, but could you imagine MARIO on any other system besides a Nintendo one (the Atari and CD-I games notwithstanding)? I just don't see Nintendo ever giving up. They have too huge of a cash stockpile. Plus this is their only source of revenue, unlike Microsoft and Sony. Sony has been unbelievably successful with the PS. I don't see them quitting anytime soon. That leaves Microsoft. They have a LOT of different revenue streams. The original Xbox wasn't that successful. The 360 was huge, but the Xbone is lagging behind. They really shot themselves in the foot with that Kinect and "no used games" nonsense. So, I don't expect any of them to quit the console biz anytime soon. But if I had to choose, I'd say Microsoft.

Classic Game Room moving to Patreon

He's explained why on several interviews and later videos. Basically YouTube changed their ad model and also pulled several of his best performing videos. So, he's not making what he used to. And with that CGR is no longer feasible for him as a full time job. It's pretty simple to understand what happened, really.- 144 replies

Divide $6,300 by at least 4 employees (Derek and the others.) Not to mention the amount it would cost for rent, electricity, etc. of his offices and the arcade. That's not very much.- 144 replies

I think he was doing fine before YouTube changed things. Screw them. I'll be giving him a few bucks a month. Heck, I can probably find a few under the cushions of my couch! It's a lot of work to create these videos. It takes him several hours to play the game, record his video, record voice over, edit everything together then post. All Hail Lord Karnage!- 144 replies

I pretty much live in it now... Endless shooter games with 50x button combinations where you have to craft your freakin' weapons. Oh, and no single player games, only multiplayer. Ugh!

My NES power supply did that too. I just wrapped it in masking tape. Looks horrible now.

Wish we knew about the "Intergalactic Space Arcade" too. I'd imagine he's going to put it back into the storage unit, like how it used to be. I'm sure the rent for the offices and location cost and arm and a leg each month. Derek and the rest of the crew are laid-off. My guess is Mark can't afford to pay everyone as it is, so that's that. -

Just bought some stuff from the CGR store. Won't be around much longer. Although, I feel like if I (and dozens of us) had bought this stuff earlier, he might not be closing shop. -
Man, I'm bummed. I really like Mark and his reviews. Not over the top crazy, but just goofy. Wonder if he's moving out of his building and packing up completely?

Cool, thanks for the heads-up! -
Very few of us are denying that. My problem (along with many others') is "Atari's" heavy-handed manner in which they are dealing with it. Surely there's a better solution than threatening letters and lawsuits?
-
I think the real point is - not that Jeff copied Tempest 2000 or that "Atari" owns the IP - but how wrong it is for "Atari" to be so heavy-handed about it. Seriously, was this the proper way to handle it? With a threatening and demanding 10 page C&D? How about working out a deal with Jeff instead of this? I mean, this is not even the real "Atari" anymore, just a bunch of greedy vultures picking over the remains. Here's the C&D BTW: http://minotaurproject.co.uk/YakImages/surprised_and_dismayed.pdf

I hate this whole ordeal, but this could actually become something good for Jeff. Especially if high profile people like Markus Persson are supporting him. Hope things can be worked out amicably... I wanted to see TxK on a console...

Alien: Isolation (All Platforms)
Gregory DG replied to xenomorpher's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Colonial Marines isn't THAT bad. It's kind of humorously bad though! I just laugh at some of the glitches and stuff, but it's still a tolerable game. I guess it helps that I got it for $5 during a Steam sale... -
My recollection was how Rayman was showcased in magazine after magazine and how close to completion it was! "Just a few more weeks now!" kind of thing. Then that stretched out into months and months before the game FINALLY came out. Then suddenly, from seemingly out of the blue the PSX version came out not long after! I was rather shocked since I thought this was a Jaguar exclusive! I later came to the conclusion that releasing it on the PSX was simply UBI Soft trying to recoup the development cost for a game that wouldn't have sold enough copies on the Jag.

The Lynx was the best system they had. They should have invested in a successor to the Lynx instead of the Jaguar. With mobile phone games being so huge right now, they could have learned enough tech to create their own phone! Or at least learned what makes the most $$ in the mobile area and had a ton of ready made games for iPhone and Android.

Since I was a kid I've always wanted a sit-down Star Wars machine... Probably one of the most impressive looking and fun games Atari ever produced!
