  1. Yes... it works in the same manner as the others taking power from the console and the injecting its own video output to the external video line off the cartridge port that was added on the model 2 units. Model 1 units require modification to add this in not too differently from what it done on the 4-port 5200s.
  2. Another thing you can check is to use a game like xenophobe and leave it in demo mode. If you are getting ghost triggering from port 2, then the game should eventually auto start on its own with the player 2 character.
  3. It does?! My Atarimax Ultimate doesn't although there is a spot on the board I think for a reset switch that wasn't populated. But I think when I looked at in detail it didn't seem to go to anything. So do the newer AtariMax carts have a reset back to menu button then? Because again, the one I own requires me to power cycle the console each time I want to change games. Mine is also housed in a 5200 cartridge case that I assume is from a donor Pac-Man or something. Aside from that the BBPro doesn't have anything additional over the Atarimax and in isn't as feature rich. But, then again the BBPro is designed to work with many many different consoles and computers.
  4. Nice! All the 32x systems I've seen in the wild were the original 84000 unit. I can't recall if my va2 has any bodges on the top or bottom of the PCB especially to the CPU? Pretty sure it doesn't since I installed a socket on mine when I swapping around different 68Ks testing things. The audio on the va2 model 1 is actually or I should say...can be made to be the best and it is until loud higher freq sounds are played at which point it will begin to distort or screech. But I've got one of the older FirebandX M1 Mega Amps and Double Mega kits installed so the original audio circuit isn't even in use on my Genesis now.

I've wondered this as well and just assumed the controllers might have been in the storage tray with the included RF cable, switch box, and PSU being located in he front edge above the console in the box as that would have afforded the most space? Form fitted foam for everything would have made this possible I'm sure and the plastic wasn't as glass fragile 40 years ago as it is today so was likely able to withstand a bit more abuse of that tighter packing?
  6. Well on the 2 port you will find that some of those redundant grounds now have traces on them that lead back to the RF modulator to control the power input and video/audio outputs. The issue with using pin 28 or some of the others has to do with one particular flash cartridge device called the BackBit Pro. It has the ability to do a reset back to menu without power cycling the console but uses and expects pins on the cartridge port to be a certain wait to take advantage of this feature since an actual system reset doesn't exist from the cartridge port itself. The BBPro adapter has a selector switch to choose between a 2 port console or 4 port. The switch in 4 port mode only works on 4 port units that have been modified to use the CX-55 adapter, or if you attach a bodge wire from pin 28 back to the reset on the 4050 as I did and then bridge a jumper pad on the BBpro adapter to specify this. So obviously what is being done is essentially a special case one off project for your needs. But for main stream use publicly it might not be completely feasible to do all of this. And it still requires having to install a second UAV in the mix. What would be more awesome would be if all of the pins that were needed could be disconnected with a switch / circuit allowing you to just run the TIA signals directly out through the cartridge port and then route it to a single UAV setup to handle both systems. But that is a more complex solution to be sure.
  7. I was going to state that it did sound like something was registering from port 2. I've dealt with a bit in the past where everything was fine, but then would manifest once the console got warm where suddenly in a game like Xenophobe, the second player would just start out of now where. Or in Rampage...same thing. One console required the TIA to be replaced to correct for it while another one I did recently had the resistor for port 2 triggering showing a little out of spec and replacing it with one that was closer to spec reading resolved the issue.
  8. Well, I don't really have any answers on this, but I've used like 4 different 32x systems on my model 1 non-tmss and never had an issue aside from an occasional lockup in games sometimes. But otherwise they come up and work. But mine is even older as it is a va2 model 1 US Genesis. It is the one know to have distortion issues with the audio when it gets loud while the va3's are considered to be among the best for the audio alone. I know you said the cartridge port looks clean etc, but it really sounds like something is not able to be initialized on the 32x and as the cartridge port is really the only source for failure between the two machines (Since you stated the 32x works fine in other consoles...). Not sure what has been tried already at this point, but I would start with a careful physical inspection of the cartridge port and all of the pins, and possibly try reflowing the pins on the cartridge port in case one or more might not be quite making the contact needed. Another thought I have because I was having some odd issues a few years back that my 32x was responsible for although not the same issue you are having. Mine was odd graphical snow like effect with anything that used the Sega CD stuff for extra graphics. But I found out it was the 32x causing those issue as remove it made the the odd graphics issues go away. Replacing out my voltage regulators actually solved that issue. So I have to assume that one of them was marginal and with everything connected up, that the Tower of Power was just too much without some components getting refreshed.
  9. Well, I'm able to get picture following @Muddyfunster's settings, but I have to keep the Pre-coast setting at 1 as anything else will drop the pic and keep the post-coast setting at 0. And according to that thread, it looks like profiles exporting/importing might be working on the 1.03 beta FW?
  10. I was just about to post the same link. But yes this is the one I was talking about. I can say that with .89 / .90 I can more or less get the picture to come in stable but now the audio constantly drops out. Not sure if the issue is from the signal off the 7800GD or from the OSSC to my AV receiver. The OSSC doesn't seem to show anything or change on the display, but receiver constantly shows the audio signal dropping in and out resulting in a second or two of audio followed by a few seconds of silence as the receiver tries to lock back into the audio. I get the same results using HDRetrovision cables to the OSSC and I'm not sure that has been reported yet? In fact, the video signal might even be a little less stable from the HDRetrovision cables vs the RGB cables.

  12. Again, I've measure this and the 5200 only pulls about 750mA from my bench PSU when running the AtariMax cart on it. So there is plenty of current across both of those 7805s to handle it. Unless they are only 500mA rated output regulators or something? But I'm guessing they are 1A output given the PSU on the 5200 can output nearly 2A on its own. I'm sure all of this was originally done because Atari planned/hoped that the expansion bus on the rear corner could be used to add additional devices and they were liking wanting to power those devices from within the console hence the overkill on the power setup in the 5200. If one of those pins on J1 is 28...then that won't work for me. I bodge a wire from that pin to the 4050 reset pin for use with one of my flashcarts that needs it for resetting back to the game menu.
  13. That isn't what I was experiencing. Every time I made a change in those options, exit from the game to play another, the options would default back to full volume on the audio. Wasn't until I edited the .ini externally, that it seemed to stay where I wanted.

  15. Lucky you.... as even with the UAV in my daily driver setup, Buck rogers title screen and level screens are a scrolling mess on my AV setup. But it is the only game to give me any issues that I've found through my UAV setup. Even the AT-AT destruction in ESB just results in the screen shifting 1 pixel down and then back up for a second without loss of video on my setup. So most of the issues others report my Extron seems able to handle it. But Buck Rogers is the one game that I've never gotten a steady screen with. But as @DrVenkman stated, it is a result of how those games were programmed originally and them not quite sticking to the proper line counts needed to display the image. CRTs were much more tolerant of this while modern displays expect such standards to be...well...standard and not just a guideline.
  16. In some games 6 might be just a tad better than the 7 setting. But again, the volume levels seem to vary from game to game from what I've played so far so it will be preference of the person playing the game. It is good that the volume options are present to adjust for this. It would be nice if different settings could be stored and remembered on a game by game basis but I assume that would take up quite a bit of overall resources and just isn't practical. But as an example, it would be nice to have Tower Toppler always use the Strong blending method since that is most true to what the game would look like on a CRT with proper artifacting taking place.

  20. Exactly the same... Difference is that Coleco foresaw this ahead of time and so the console was designed with extra power provided off the expansion port and lines for video and audio to come into the console. Whereas with the 5200 and Intellivision, their initial models didn't account for this. So the modifications for those older consoles is to essentially use extra ground pins off the cartridge ports to re-purpose for the required power, audio/video needed and route it back through to the RF modulators. One thing I can't figure out is why Atari felt the need to deliver the raw input DC off the port straight to the VCS adapter? It would have been easier for them and safer if they had just routed +5 straight to the VCS adapter that was only switched on when the power button was pressed. Instead, you have raw +12v active on the cartridge port as soon as you plug in the DC power cord into the console. The hardware in the 5200 could handle the current draw as would the 5200's PSU? It would also mean that power regulation wasn't required inside the VCS adapter since you are already supplying a steady +5 to it further cutting a little bit of cost and space inside the adapter? Unless there is something I'm missing on the way it all works?
  21. This will vary from person to person and console to console. But I basically have the TIA volume on my 7800GD at half of what the others are and that brings everything pretty darn close to an actual consoles audio would be. I will also say that the volume seems to come out a bit different from game to game also. Commando the TIA was too loud but not noticed as much as it was with something like 1942 or say when playing a Pokey game and then suddenly switching to a TIA game and the TIA audio was now blasting me out. So yeah I modified my 7800GD.INI file and have the first number on the volume line set to 7. So on that line it basically reads... VOLUME = 7,15,15,15

I was testing my 7800GD last night with quite a few games both through the AV out and the s-vid plus RCAs I've in place and with the exception of how finicky the AV out is with my setup, the UAV setup in my consoles didn't have any issues at all. Aside from the TIA output on the 7800GD being too loud, but that is corrected for by changing the volume sliders to compensate through the 7800GD. In fact I was playing Bob's pac 40th with FM sound and no issues at all aside from the odd cram dots like effect along the bottom, but I can cover that with the masking options from the OSSC. So I can thankfully say that the way I've been doing the audio all these years on UAV consoles appears to be good to go. I figured it would be, but still until you test it for yourself you just don't know.
  23. Last time I place an order, I didn't get an answer either but I don't remember the option to leave a message either? I actually tried to call back again an hour later and he answered and I placed my order. But I think he only has like a 3 hour window for his 'hours' these days where you can place a call so maybe he decided to do away with that and have the system take a message so he doesn't even have to talk anymore?
  24. You can add AstroBlaster to this as well. The game itself locks up completely just a few seconds into starting a round. I haven't tried it without break yet so that might correct it. But what I can say is that the console isn't locked up because when the game freezes, I'm able to still use the Start button to get the break menu to come up and exit the game taking me back to the game select menu and go on. So it just seems to freeze up within the 7800GD itself. I also noticed quite a few of @Eagle's FM and Pokey demos actually break the 'Break' as it won't come up when you try and bring it up. Have to power cycle the console at that point to stop the music and get back to the 7800GD menu.
  25. Okay, so I bit the bullet and upgraded to .90 last night. I made video of me going through most of my settings (The ones that matter most anyway) so I could replicate them. I'm glad to say that .90 now shows sync from a MD c-sync RGB cable from the 7800GD to my OSSC and I've got a pretty stable picture as a result. However... The audio isn't coming through properly and will keep dropping in and out constantly through my AV receiver. The receiver has a signal info section and it detects it properly at 96khz PCM, but only for a second and then it drops away for a few seconds...comes back...drops out... But just the audio. Not sure what to make of that. I did try setting the OSSC to 48Khz mode, but then NO audio at all would come through to my AV receiver. In fact, I usually use 48Khz on my SNES profile with the older OSSC FW and even that wasn't working now. So I'm guessing something is buggered with the later OSSC FW and audio since it seems the 48Khz mode is effectively broken. I also tried to use .89 FW but that resulted in the same situation with even slightly less stable video as it would drop out more often every few min for a sec or two. I'm tempted to give the slight hardware modification a try on the OSSC I've seen Marq's mention that would allow use of the beta 1.x series FW that is supposed to really address video/audio sync issues and is part of what is incorporated into the upcoming OSSC Pro. There is another thing I'm going to try as well a bit later to see if it helps and if it does I will report back. I guess the good news at least, is that now that I can export my profiles, I can more easily create the settings needed with FirebrandX online profile tool and import them back in as well.
