  1. One of the reasons I will actually miss Gamestop

Got yet another awesome deal on some Wii games at GameStop today! This time I picked up a copy of Dead Space: Extraction for $2.99 (it normally sells for $15+ on eBay) along with Wii Play for $0.99 and WordJong Party, which is basically a mashup of Mahjong and Scrabble with furries, for $2.99. Not too bad for $7 altogether! :D

  2. Yes, and unless I'm missing something all we know about the ataribox is what it and it's controllers might look like. I remember hearing some tech specs that most YouTube videos I watched were unimpressed with but I don't recall any details on what media it would use or an actual release date.

... and as someone pointed out earlier in this thread, "Atari" should study that page carefully, because it's a perfect example of how to do new Atari hardware development right. Brad has shared more details about the creation of a power supply on that page than "Atari" has ever shared about their plans for "that Ataribox?".

  3. I want it to be something cool. However I have a 2600jr and a Sears Video Arcade 2 that work fine and a 7800 that needs a new power cord. It would have to be really nice to justify me paying 300 dollars to play 2600 games.

  4. 2600: Only competitor I played was Intellivision. Loved Snafu and Burger Time as a kid. Overall I wouldn't pick it over the 2600.

5200: As far as I know Colecovision and the 5200 are the only consoles I know of in what I like to call Gen 2.5. I have never played a 5200 but the Colecovision was my first console, my dad brought one home with about a dozen games poat crash and I not only loved it but it was sturdy enough to survive my 4 year old destructive tendencies. We had it up until I got an Nes probably in 2nd or 3rd grade.

7800: I've never played a Master system, I still play NES occasionally and I picked up a 7800 last year and it went on the fritz almost immediately. I had the power buttons replaced and then discovered the ax adaptor is going out and it's been in the closet since although I finally found a few sources for adaptors other than $50 30 year old ones on eBay. Overall I have to give the nod to the NES for 3rd Gen although there is room to sway me of the 7800 homebrew market is as awesome as advertised.

  5. For someone jumping in today without any electronic skills, would you buy a console and get it modded and repaired, buy an already modded console or wait for one the clones that are possibly going to be on the market next year. I have yet to see one in the wild and haven't had any luck on Facebook or Craigslist either. I'm seeing 75-125 for a working unit plus 25-50 shipping on eBay unless it is boxed or has a ton of games. I've seen modded systems in the 250-300 range and haven't heard a price on the clones yet.

  6. Wonder what the catch is, my guess is they either don't take paypal or they count on you not being willing to take the trouble to file a claim. Or maybe they just ship a piece of junk knowing it would cost way more than $25 to ship it back and get a refund.

  7. Congratulations on servicing over 500 Colecovision Systems. I had mine serviced with an A/V mod in 2010 plus the straightened cords on the controllers and everything is still going strong in 2017!

Best decision I ever made was to have the entire system cleaned and modded. I only added a Canadian power supply a couple of years ago, and everything is still running great.

Thanks for keeping these systems out of the graveyard!

Do you currently have systems for sale?

  8. Ok, so I hit a lot of flea markets, thrift stores and retro game shops and have noticed I have yet to see a Colecovision. I had one as a kid and nobody thought it was weird and unheard of at the time and a lot of people still remember them. A few of the shops I've been in said they only see one every 5-10 years at best. I'm in a small city in the tri state area of Ohio, Ky, WV so I'm not horribly surprised they aren't here but I spent a day hitting shops in Columbus last month and nobody had seen one in a long time. I've noticed there aren't a lot on eBay either and the complete ones are going north of 100 after shipping usually. So I guess the real question is how often are you guys seeing these and what are you paying for them? I'm honestly not sure I want to spend ps4 money on a 35 year old system that will almost immediately need new or refurbished controllers and a hard to find power supply.

  10. Yes , local game store, honestly not sure where i picked that up. I had not seen one in my town but I know I can pick one up in Columbus which is about 2 hours from me and I'm thinking the shop up there wanted 50 or 60 dollars for tested ones. Maybe if they set another couple years I can pick them both up for 15 or 20. I just wanted the 2600 to mod since I already have a 7800 and a je.
