RTO - my "production" take on the multicart
aotta replied to 5-11under's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Waiting for 5-11under for answering about it's smaller version, i can confirm that manual is uploaded in official project's github page: https://github.com/aotta/RTO-Cart/blob/main/RTO_FLASH_CART_User_Manual-(EN).pdf About the Box and printed manual, for the Original RTO version (the size and box are different from the 5-11under resized one) is in progress an high quality production with resin shell, printed box and manual, but it seems the final price will be higher (over 150$), as the team that's working on it intend to make a kind of collector's product. Below a picture of the actual box (the author sent me a courtesy copy, but haven't yet received ) -
Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart

i did it while debugging, and the Teensy survived. I think double powering it's not recommended for long time use, but safe for some tests. -
Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart

Well, RTO, like others multicarts, emulate a multiplexed ROM: while Rom return electrically the data when red, the emulation works reading the inty's cpu phases and writing the data to the bus. The timing in this is critical for synchronize the inty and the emulator. To get best timing value, i added in code a routine for varying delays constants with RTO buttons, and displaying it on lcd display. Anyway, the default values works fine in all working pal console me and my friends tested. In one case, the problems depended from a bad PSU, that didn't give to RTO the 5v needed. Since the daughter board get more power than a normal console, it could be a further test to do: power the RTO with USB cable, and see! IMO, the glitch you got depend from the consoles, and varying the time may help things, but won't resolve the issue. -

Mmhh... Very not scientific as test, since you got different behaviours even between the two daughtered mother boards. But, this confirm that a couple of games have issue with this revision of motherboard. The more strange thing to me it's Dracula has glitches: the original cart works fine in both daughter pcb consoles? -

I see two electrolytic caps under the board, if I'll have to guess, they are the most suspected -

it seems to confirm that the daughter board interferes in some way with the R/W of the game's ROM, but i don't know what that board is for, and i didn't found it in the Intellivision schematics. Can it be detached from the mainboard, to get some pics and more details? -

Hi, the buttons seems ok, and the R6 isn't needed (i used it to test the reset line). And for the Teensy, you have to solder only the "parallel" strips, nothing else. SD card label is no relevant, only the bin and cfg files, and the directory structure (max 1 level depth). -

Well i don't remind the numbers i got in flashing mine, but it sounds that you did it fine, without errors -

Yes you have a couple of library installed, the adafruit is for the display management. You just may add it from library manager menu of arduino ide -
I remain in the opinion that the boards without firmware are only shells. But i realized that my goal to clarify the situation was a failure... and started this funny new "Official" list! 😂 Yuou GFYI are totally right, people don't read things very carefully... i'm afraid they don't read post at all, but only the topic! EDIT: and, to be clear, i'm only critical for the situation, not for the LTO that i like very much and hope i could buy one, if it'll be on market!

Thank you for helping me, and you recapped perfectly my thought, except for the "if" question... i think people who periodically ask here for an LTO Flash come from the LTO site where the good news, dated 30th december 2020, that the LTO would be "available soon": now, i'm in waiting list (or, better, i wrote the email as requested in the site, but never got an answer) since beginning of 2021, and i think dozens people are in my same situation, without no official info. So, i think people NEED to know more.... are you SURE that Joe will return on business, or is only your hope? As you probably know, i made an alternative opensource multicart, the RTO Cart, and there is the good "Back bit" on the market, so i don't need anymore a LTO, but i think other people need to know if and what waiting for, or buy a Back Bit. Well, I went from sarcasm to cynicism, but I don't think I did misinformation!

Ok i was ironic and i'm sorry, but i think it's your information that it's not accurate, you are saying that Monnalisa is almost ready because the paints, canvas and brush are there! The LTO flash will be done if and when Joe Zbiciak will load the firmware and generate the magic key into each cart with his magic fluid. In the last two years, he had no time nor mood for doing it. So, I guess the LTO Flash won't be done for others years. Does Joe told you something different? Ok, i was again too ironic... sorry! 😁

if you uploaded the gerber1.1a.rar you found in my repo, you can be easy, they worked for me. Sometime the jlcpcb preview are not accurate. -

Yes the default value are just fine, sometime i choose different color for the PCB, but it takes some more days in fabricating. I printed the shells with my Entina 3D (i designed the pcb and shell to be into my 12cm limit! ), but black resin should be good, i used it for other computer's part! -

hi, resistor are standard through hole, and decoupling capacitor too, so you could fit almost any type if the size is not the exact one. Anyway, I can upload the BOM generated by Kicad automatically, it's not checked by me so ask if you have any doubt. For the PCB, i always use JLCPCB, and time deliver depends on wich courier do you choose (more you pay, faster the service). I use jlcpcb for 3d printing large stuff too (my 3d printer has 12 cm as max printing size), but if you are looking for someone in USA, i can't help you. RTO_cart.csv -

Thank you RKOTower, your guide could be useful, because at the moment in Italy there's the biggest concentration of RTOCart of the world, basing on the Italian RTO user group! 😂 About the missing splash screen and automatic reset at power on, you have to replace the capacitor in the reset circuit. I had to do myself in one of my intelligision. -

You could try to rename the file, it may be too long and sw doesn't find the ".bin" as suffix and discard it. Also, remind to put in the same folder the .cfg with same name if needed. And, 0.cfg file (the default mapping) must be placed always in root folder
