Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart
aotta replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Yes, i can't reset the console fine, so I'll test grounding reset line while checking /msync signals. With a fourth 74lvc i could use one in input and the other in output in the same time. I'm waiting for the pcb for test and coding so it's probably a bit early for ordering the prototype. -
I confirm RTO is not a Brazilian project, and it support only ECS style paging switch. JLP is not a retroconsole feature in my opinion, and I'm not interested in adding it to RTO. But, the code is on GitHub and i left it open source, so anyone is free to work on it!

Noone i know since now, and i'm working at a new layout for the PCB and some bugfixes and improvements in version 1.1a (it's already uploaded on github but it's not yet tested), so i suggest everyone to wait for big PCBs orders! The issue that is blocking me now is that seems i can't reset the Intellivision simply grounding pin 12 of the cart: i'd like the game starts without the need of pushing reset, and that on power-on the RTO shows my splash screen! But i miss something (maybe i have to check the ~MSYNC signal?), any hints will be appreciated!

I share the project for who want to make himself the cart, it's very easy and cheap (except for the Teensy 4.1 that is not really cheap and available), but i don't produce neither sell the RTO. I didn't want to create a new cart for the market, so who want to build the RTO and sell it could use this forum or others to spread the words!

A multicart like there are for Atari, Coleco, Odyssey etc. is avaialable for Intellivision too to everyone is able to solder a few through-hole components, with RTO-Cart ( https://github.com/aotta/RTO-Cart ) , that was the goal that port me to create the T-Cart Replica! And, as written above, 5-11under is working for selling some built boards too. I don't think the reasons for only 2 multicart (and few pieces) in the last years is becaouse of the intellectual right, but for the special way that Intellivision's roms works, with its muliplexed bus and strange banking switching. In my RTO i don't use copyrighted software from Intlv, and it can be used for homebrew software if you don't own original Intellivision's software.

I suggest you to order some 8mb psram for expanding yours teensy too, i've in mind to use it in next releases (now most of the ram is used for the ROM emulation, and some files - the Bad Apple, at most - are very large!)

I continued talking about the RTO Cart in the specific threads here: Anyway, i confirm i'm not interested in producing and solding the carts, but everyone is free to do it (maybe he could cash back me a little percent! ;)! I'm supporting a few of little groups that are making small batches of carts for them, and anyone can contact me if he needs some help in assembling or programming it. And, i'm working on a new release with some debug and a couple of new features (the reset control and the third button).

Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart
aotta replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Some users found a bug in RTO-Cart i didn't found because i use composite or HDMI output: pin 8 in the cart's slot (video-ext input) has to be connected to GND, or you'll have a very disturbed video in RF TV output! This is the simple patch: I'm working at a new versione of the cart with Reset handling and a "back" buttons, i'll update the github with all the fix and new feature as soon as i'll finish it. -
Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart

I only made a couple boards for me, and i know about some guys are building a few ones for them, but none that i know it's still selling it, sorry. -

Added ECS bank switching support! -
Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart
aotta replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
An importart note for who wants made the RTOCart himself: in the previous kicad project published in GITHUB were listed by mistake 74LS245 ICs instead the right ones 74LVC245: be sure to use the right level shifter!!! Thanks to Alberto who pointed me on the error! -
I know, and found some info about the bank switching last weeks, but now i'm working on others projects, i'll update the RTO Code in the future. And, i bought an Intellivoice only a few days ago to test it! Anyway, the source code is on github, anyone could fork it and improve it, with my plause!

Intellivision RTO-MultiCart - new multicart
aotta replied to Rev's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Yes, i thought the "right" way to project a multicart was putting it in the public domain! -
Made a 3D printed cartridge too... models are in the github project folder: I tested many bin files with different configuration map, till now RTO don't work with WSLM Baseball since it use a particular bank switching i don't know enough to emulate. So, i consider finished this project, and looking for the next one in list.... an hard disk for the Amstrad PPC 512
-
And now RTO-cart works with game with ram too!! For anyone wants do himself an intellivision multicart, the project's files are updated on my github repository
-
The cart looks for "samenaneofbin".bin cfg files for mapping, otherwise use the default map rom. I haven't yet tested all maps configuration, neither implemented the ram support (I'll start working on it tonight)
-
I had solution under my eyes, since Intvnut attached his mail in previous post dated 8 may 2020, but didn't read it with the attention due!!! I needed to add writing bus in ADAR phase too!!! Now i'll clean a bit the code and update it to github. And i'd start design the 3d model for the cartridge too...
-
No, i'm afraid it's not a latency problem, but i have some bits "floating" even in the bar/abar cycles.... maybe i have to mux in the right way the pin. Did you John pull-up or pull-down the GPIO connected to intellivision's bus?

New 3D model for Intellivision cartridge case
aotta replied to nanochess's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
@nanochess, is the model based on freecad project? could you share it too? i have to design the cartridge for my homebrew multicart project, and it's longer than normal Intv pcbs, but i'd like not to start from scratch. -
i think the bin addressing is correct, but i noticed i have some DWS bus state in the $5000 range, and i don't know if i have simply to ignore them or (more probably) is a signal that there's an error.... the strange is that games seems start and freeze after few seconds, and testing baseball bin i noticed weird scoring and setting... could this be useful for understanding what's wrong?
-
No, i load game into a 128k array from sdcard, then read each word needed in DTB from the array at index [bus address]. I starting loading the array in the 8mb extmem, but it's a PSRAM so i avoid it for speeding up the reading. I haven't yet done other test with timing, since i made the file selecting routine (it remain the "/.." handling..) and then i must manage the rom mapping (for now, i load only file smallest than 8k in the &5000-&6fff bank). As i wrote, the code is on github if you find some times to have a look at it: https://github.com/aotta/RTO-Cart/tree/main/RTOCart As you could see, i copied pieces of code from your ACC, but i give you the credits in the incipit

My fault, sorry, i meant Nanoseconds. In Teensy there is the useful delayNanoseconds() function that i used.

interesting.... added to upgrade list!
