  1. Well, I think this cartridge is a bit rare. Here you will find a little review : http://www.stickhead.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/stformat/stf04/fmmelodymaker.html
  2. "FM Melody Maker" is what you need. It's an old cartridge for the Atari ST which embarks an YM2413 that plugs in the cartridge port. It's similar to the FM Pac on the MSX computer. So you can play 9 channels FM or 6 channels + 5 drums, but on the contrary of the YM2203, the YM2413 is limited to 2 operators per channel. Anyway, you can still have some fun with it, my MSX has an YM2413 built in, and I love it !
  3. Glad you like it too, people often use and refers to DPaint or PPaint on the Amiga. Personnally my favorite is Brilliance, a very brilliant drawing soft !
  4. Yeah, I tried Ghost'n Goblins on the Lynx emu, I would have loved to see a conversion of it. Here is a screenshot of Yie ar Kung Fu, as you can see, I used MSX gfx to adapt them to the Lynx, from yakf 1 and 2. I like the cartoon style of the MSX version. And another (vertically scanlined) one of something that could be made into a Kung Fu Master clone/version. As for Ikari work, I don't have the drawings here, at home, they are on my Amiga HD. Hasta pronto !
  5. Actually this project, as I said in my first post, is nothing but a game of the goose ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_the_Goose ), you have probably played this game in your chilhood on a wooden board and 2 dice, as I did when I was a kid. So the game concept is ultra simple. In my project it's simply the same : 4 players have to go through 100 boxes to finish the game, and of course, the first player who reaches the last box (no 100) have won, it's basically a race between 4 players in fact. So the RPG elements are here to create an atmosphere and to add some fun too. But they are quite simple. Each player have Life, Attack, Defense and Gold. So if you meet a monster on a box (randomly), say a goblin (with it's own Life, Attack and Defense), you have to fight against it, and if you win you can take some gold. Sometimes you can go to a village (each 15 boxes or so) in which you can buy some equipment in 3 shops : weapons, armors, items (amulet, rune, magic object) to help you in your quest (reaching the last box no.100 where the dark wizard awaits you) by adding some +1,+2,+3 etc. to your attack or defense. So I don't think a game like this would be that much difficult to do. Well, maybe next summer I will try to learn C language, it could be quite a challenge to try to adapt this game by myself after all (even if it's not going to be finish until 2019 or so )
  6. The original pics, those I drew are 160x102, I just doubled the size for the screenshots. And the number of colors didn't change from the original pics I draw, there are only 16 colors here or maybe 15, I saved one for objects/sprites transparancy if I remember well (color #0). Well, let's explain it a bit. I don't want to be the boss or the captain of the ship, I can draw, so I make some graphics and freely give them to encourage making a game and save time for a coder who would not have some time or would not/could not draw any graphics. It goes like this for Yie ar Kung Fu, Kung Fu Master and Ikari, for which I re-arranged the graphics to adapt them to the Lynx specs (resolution/colors). Those games are well known, and they often appear as an answer when asked what games one would want to see on the Lynx, well at least Y.ar K. and KFM... So it's my free and modest contribution as long as there are some demand for them. The exeption is the Game of Goose. But I'm open to any ideas of course, there's no problem. I know what the Lynx is capable of, and I don't see any difficulties here. As I said I'm totally open to any ideas coming from anyone, I just start with a concept and it can be improved with any suggestions, all of this is to give some help, and for the pleasure of making some games that people could have fun with.
  7. I have been thinking about making some games on the Lynx for many years. I can't code, but I can pixel draw, and my idea was to imagine a game scenario and rules, draw every single graphics elements (sprites, tiles, animations, cinematics scenes if needed etc.) and once finished, give them to a coder to complete the game, and hire another person concerning the sound departement if the coder would not be able to do it. I use my Amiga 1200, 75% of the time to make drawings with "Brilliance" who is, I think, a real drawing software masterpiece. So I did some sprites/animation for projects that could be Lynx versions of : Yie Ar Kung Fu, Kung Fu Master (yeah, I like kung fu !), Ikari Warriors, and a Game of the Goose with Heroic Fantasy RPG elements (ala Rune Master) that could be played up to 4 players. Here is 2 pic with vertical scanline to give a Lynx screen feeling. I'm still working on it when I can, and a lot have been done on the graphics side.
  8. - Rygar = Allready converted so you can buy and play it on your Lynx since 18 Years As well as Double Dragon, I know. I've already played them on the Lynx. Anyway, I think these 2 games could be better than they already are on the Lynx, they should be re-converted.
  9. - Temple of Quauhtli (Loriciel) - Bruce Lee (Datasoft) - Pacific (Ere) - Kung Fu Master (IREM) - YS I & II (Falcom) - Kenseiden (Sega) - Metal Gear 2 - MSX2 version - (Konami) - SD Snatcher (Konami) - Knightmare (Konami) - Aleste 2 (Compile) and BW arcade port such as : - Wonderboy in Monsterland - Rygar - Black Dragon - Trojan - Shinobi - Double Dragon - Rush 'n Crash - Arkanoid 1 & 2 - Kickle Cubicle - Splatter House

Actually I bought my Lynx on eBay 3 years ago. In the auction it was described as new and when I received it, it was in very good condition and seemed really new, so I think it was. And as far as my memory goes, I don't remember any LCD problem. I bought the Lynx to try Alpine Games and I bought Dracula too. And after playing a while with these games I didn't played that much with this handeld : I turned on the Lynx a dozen times since 3 years, so it's quite strange that suddenly some pixel die in the screen. It's very strange to me, I don't understand (I don't think the LCD screen is that cheap), maybe the Lynx wasn't new after all...

1 white, 3 green and 3 red here... I wish I could change the LCD by a new one, but I guess that this LCD technology is not made anymore (yes I'm probably the only one Lynx fan to love the Lynx LCD with its famous vertical scanlines and washed colors ! ).
  12. To me a Lynx III like this would have been heaven : Screen res. -> 160 x 120 CPU -> 65c816 @ 16 MHz (so that the CPU would run at Mickey/Suzy same speed) RAM -> 128 KB Colors -> 32 displayable (maybe a EHB like mode) Sound -> add a 3 or 4 voices FM synthesis chip (a 4 operators one in the like of YM2203 but without SSG) Battery life -> ~ 8 hours Well, actually it does not make so much changes, because the Lynx in itself is, I think, is really a brilliant design !
  13. Does someone know if the Jaguar chipset used in the CoJag is a new revision of the Jaguar chipset with (some of) the bugs fixed or is it strictly the same ?
  14. I think the original Bubble Bobble would be much more cool, and some old arcade games like those driven by a 68K as they could be more easily converted (Mame should help a lot).
  15. eJagulator cable ! And for the advertising : "Prepare to eJagulate like you never did before !"
  16. It would be cool to add some music to listen, you could put the songs EXCEED made for example (an image + a song playing), like those on his homepage : "Nostalgia 1907" (a very nice one), "Splatter House" and "R-Type". It would add some variety to the contents.

"For some reason I decided to skip videos... Ok Sony, you win this round icon_sad.gif " Mmm, are you sure ? Some time ago EXCEED, converted a short sequence from the movie "Taxi" and our beloved little handheld could display a video clip and play sound too ! So Sony... @$¤# off ! I wish we would be able to use SD on the Lynx, so an entire movie would fit in the card...
  18. I think the Lynx hardware is quite powerful, but don't omit the screen resolution of the Atari handheld. Lynx : 160 x 102 -> 16320 pixels SNES : 256 x 224 -> 57344 pixels Megadrive : 320 x 224 -> 71680 When Edge stated "the Lynx is an imensely powerful machine that certainly matches if not suppases the SNES in many areas" they forgot to mention that the Lynx has almost 4 times less pixels to process. And it's even more in the case of the Genesis/Megadrive. That reminds me a post from a Lynx diehard I read some time ago that stated that the Lynx Blitter was even more powerful than the Neo Geo GPU ! I was very impressed by Alpine Games, it's the game that made me buy a Lynx, but let's be reasonable, as powerful as the Lynx can be, its harware would not be able to manage 4 times more pixels as easily and this would inevitably result in a fall of performances. I don't think it could blow any of the 3 16bit home consoles (PC Engine, Megadrive and SNES...).
  19. This is not enough for me. My Falcons have two and five gig hard drives. I'm thinking about getting a ten gig hd for one of them... Are there bigger cf-cards available? 977164[/snapback] As far as I know, the biggest CF card available are the 12 GB ones made by Pretec (PRETEC Cheetah with 13 MB/s read speed and 12 MB/s write speed). But they are a bit expensive : $9,999.99 ! Though the average size is 4 GB at a more reasonable price.
  20. Well, I tried this CF card on my A1200 with its IDE 2 CF adapter and I had some troubles too. I could fix it with another CF card. A slower one (between 3MB/s - 4 MB/s) and it works fine. So I think the card speed must be a something to care of. As for the Falcon 030, I haven't tried with a slower CF card yet. I don't remember the type of error nor number of bombs it displayed, but I will retry and I will post it, maybe it could help.
  21. What is the speed of your CF card ? I did the same : IDE to CF adaptor with a 512 MB x80 and it didn't work. The Falcon booted once in a while and after a couple of minutes some bombs appeared or it simply ended hung. I think the card was too fast, but I'm not sure...
  22. Nice to see some Jag projects are going on ! Just some questions : - First, what kind of side scrolling shooter is it ? Gradius/Nemesis like, R-Type like, Darius like, In the Hunt like, etc. ? - Second, do you plan to make a cartridge version ? (unfortunately I'm of those who don't own a Jag CD-ROM).
  23. I just watched the video, Wow ! It's really impressing, and looks very professional ! I liked the intro too, the characters are nice ! Congrats, I hope you will release the game some time !!
  24. In the case of Lynx high-color possibilities, I was wondering if it would be possible to make a game using it. As it seems to be suitable for non moving images, it could be used in some sort of aventure game or RPG. But I don't know if it is possible to use sprites (to display informations) in this high color mode. I guess there must be some bandwith limitations... Anyway, no matter using thousand of colors, this mode maybe used to display images with, say between 32 and 64 colors (there are really nice RPG on Amiga that use 32 or 64 colors GFX -> Eye of Beholder 2 for example), and maybe less than thousand or even hundred colors on screen could save some bandwith (in the case it would be the problem). Would it be possible ? Concerning game adaptations, I think that it is not a good idea to focus on games such as the ones on modern handheld consoles like the GBA, they are often complex games, and making versions on these games on the Lynx are, I think, a very long and painful process that inevitably leads to a born dead project (lack of time, lost of interest, discouragement etc.). You should rather look toward old 8 bit machines like the NES (CPU-> 6502, 16 colors displayable on screen...), the MSX1 or MSX2, etc. Games like "Yie Ar Kung Fu" (MSX1 and NES have the same version) are very entertaining and do not seem that hard to adapt : just a screen without scrolling, and 2 sprites jumping, punching and kicking in a kung fu fighting frenzy ! It's a very simple concept, but so fun ! Opcode, a guy from Brasil has made a Coleco adaptation of this game : http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66325 http://www.opcodegames.com/modules.php?nam...=showpage&pid=8 So, if it is possible for the Coleco, it should be possible for the Lynx ! Well, in fact there are many, many very good old 8 bit games that could give some ideas or inspiration for people who would like to make some games for our beloved handheld. I hope that some day we could see some of them on our little LCD screen... Have a nice day !
