Sorry to dig up an old topic, but I am looking to RGB mod my japanese 3DO with the 240p switch and where you would expect there is not an RF output, there is a large 'box' on the PCB attached to the 240p switch. This leaves me with no obvious place to place the RGB DIN. Any recommendations? At this point I am considering drilling a hole through the vents on the top piece (yuck!) or sticking it on the left side of the console (also yuck!).

I'd be happy to assist in testing beta as long as there would be opportunity to exchange it for a finalized product once it's finalized.

Yeah if they do decide to just implement the whole Sega CD in FPGA, it's highly unlikely that they would delay the release of the Analogue MD/SG/Mega NT if the Genesis core is complete, just to wait for a jailbreak only, piracy dependent feature. If they did plan on implementing Sega CD in FPGA, they would likely just overspec the Mega NT to leave enough headroom/bandwidth for the SCD and just ship it as a Genesis only. It might not be worth the extra cost, and if it causes it to be like 100 dollars more expensive than the Super NT, people would be very confused.
Maybe release a second upmarket version with additional built-in gen-2 analog output thus enabling working with a 32x and the additional sideport or additional FPGA headroom to allow for potential expansion in future. I know its a pipe dream but how nuce it would be to have what amounts to a sega Neptune

It has 9 fx games basically all the NA games, wished for some unreleased games or some hacks but for what it is it's good. Works grate on the currect firmware and cheats work after soft reset, well I just got it and be warned it's backordered so you will be waiting a week or more. (well i am going to test it out with different codes another time.). I actually ask them if they can take out doom or something for the star fox 2 beta and they told me they sell the cartage as is. SIgh.
DOOM
STAR FOX
STAR FOX 2 CLASSIC (THE ONE on the snes classic)
STAR FOX SUPER Weekend
winter gold
Stunt race FX
Yoshi's island
Dirt Trax FX
Vortex
How did you order it? Ive been waiting for it to be in stock for a month and it never popped in.

Kevtris, is there any concern damaging the console playing cheap chinese repros on the super NT? I don't really know if they exhibit the voltage mismatch previously discussed, but am sure they utilize whatever the cheapest components that they can find. I purchased a half-dozen repros of cost-prohibitive games off of ebay and want to make sure I'm not slowly destroying my console.

Excited about all the fixes on this new firmware. Can't wait until our Mysterious BenefactorTM releases the update to the jail-broken firmware.

Hahaha you won't regret it.... What a great ride this is!

At least it's not just me! Maybe it's a long filenames problem? A lot of these are super long, but even the less than 32 character ones are doubling up.
I originally thought it was hidden files because I used my mac to copy stuff over, but then I reformatted and did it on a windows desktop and had similar results.

I just got into the NT Mini jailbreak (v2.0 of course), and I'm having a weird problem in the filesystem where files are listed twice, but only if you're in the applicable mode.
Like, I load up the NES core and browse to my NES folder, and almost all the NES files (with the odd exception) are listed twice. Browse the same folder in NSF mode and they're listed once.
Inversely I go into NSF mode and browse the NSF folder and those files are listed twice, go to NES folder and they're listed once.
Also I tried adding some NSF files that werent in the smokemonster pack (shovel knight music) and they didn't show up at all!
I'm using a 32g sandisk SDHC. I never formatted it but windows says its already FAT32. Should I clear it out and load all my files from scratch? Thanks.
I have that problem too! I tried reformatting and it happened again so I have been ignoring it.

Are you guys joking?! I, along with so many others, have been playing Zelda A Link to the Past for decades and this is suddenly a problem for me and others in the thread. There’s a difference between a glitch being “oddly specific” and someone simply giving all the details in case one was relevant. It’s now obviously something you risk when going through many (any?) door that transition to totally different areas. Something weird happened the first time I left the shed and I only had to go in and out of the shed a few extra times to trigger something similar. That shed is a place I used to enter and re-enter repeatedly to resupply myself so I know that this didn’t happen on original hardware.
It’s clear that every time you go through that door or Link’s house and probably any similar door in the game that you risk triggering something like that. Judging by how quickly I triggered a glitch deliberately, the odds are extremely high that you will trigger it somewhere during your play through on this firmware and you could lose progress like I did (twice). You may get lucky and just get glitchy graphics instead of a lock or a reboot, but I put several hundred hours into this game over my life and I can tell you that there is definitely an issue. I’m not the only one reporting it either. Reporting the details around my specific encounter with it was intended to help determine the cause, not to pretend it wasn’t related.
I will try downgrading and we’ll see if it triggers again.
“Except?” All that means is that the SD2SNES wasn’t a factor, which I never assumed it was.
Good to know.

Are there different revisions of the game? Its helpful you were able to reproduce it with SD2SNES, as somebody can provide Kevtris the exact revision of the game they were playing that triggered this. (If there are multiple revisions)

... the story so far ....
Super Nt is out, it's a bomb, kerfuffle about shipping-gate.
side note:
Wolf_ gets booted off the thread 'cause he keeps saying the JB FW is gonna come out (he's certain of it)
JB FW comes out within a week (SD loading only for now, no special chip support)
"that guy" does not use the JB FW 'cause kevtris doesn't say if it is his ... and the guy repeats it so many times .... then zap, we don't hear it anymore (there's a god after-all)
... it seems scan lines have some minor issues ... kevtris is on it
... it seems a few games have some glitches ... kevtris is on it
... it seems people would like HDMI at 60.09 ... kevtris says "thanks but no thanks"
... we don't know how the analog dongle would work ... for the purists hopefully at 60.09 exactly (not sure if at that point the purists should just use their analog SNES over an analog TV but that's just me, I don't really understand, maybe they like component signals ... to each his own)
(...in the middle of it all a whole lot of drama)
did I miss anything?
Should we let the wolf back? (not that I have any power to do so, mind you)
Let's talk business, if Analogue sold 10K units that's ~2M$, if they make a good 40% markup that's 800K, hopefully kevtris gets 50% of that -> 400K ...... Shaka Brah
One has to wonder if big N itself wouldn't be wiser to just offer kevtris 1M/2M to get an all-in-one NES/SNES FPGA ..... will see, maybe they are too busy suing anyone saying the word "Mario" (ouch, now I'm in trouble) .... good luck with that.
I am pretty sure Analogue sold 5k of each color variation in the initial pre-order (and sold out of all 20k). Now they have sold out of 2 more colors. Here's hoping that means they made 2.2 or so... Now if Kevtris worked out 50% then damn, I need his help renegotiating my contract, but even 5% would pay 100k and thats not considering any further sales....

That's how the nt mini does it as well,it loads the core direct off the SD card without writing it to flash.
I am so glad to read this. I love bouncing back and forth between different generations of games on my mini, and when I was reading how the flash was being re-written every time I switch cores I started getting worried about what happens when the flash hits its write-limit.
So does this mean that the flash is only re-written when we update/change the firmware?

Got to go with Snatcher1996 on this one. I'd love a new Genesis/32X/CD hybrid machine. I wouldn't mind an emulation based console as long as the emulation weren't bug ridden and that the components are high quality. I may be in the minority here and I understand the complexity of the life support console, but I'm in the all or nothing camp. There are quite a few games that people would miss out on that are worth playing. Popful Mail and Snatcher come to mind. It would be a shame to have a new console that wouldn't be at least compatible with the 32X and/or Sega CD.
If we could have an all in one FPGA system with a CD drive, that would be great. However, it looks like Analogue has its sights set on making more affordable hardware and I imagine the guys over at the company aren't too keen on introducing another $500 boutique console.
What would be really interesting for Analogue to do would be to make a high quality upscaler. If the proposed DTA converter works out and will likely downscale well, who's to say that an upscaler can't be done? If Analogue could produce an upscaler for around $150 to $200 there would be a market for it. An Analogue upscaler would offer the option of original hardware as well as Analogue's new line of clone consoles. Does anyone think that's reasonable?
Yeah, I tend to agree. The beauty of the Analogue systems is that I get to retire my old original systems. Id consider picking up an FPGA genesis, but itd be a sure-buy if it at least supported attaching a 32x and segacd even if it required analog output only.
-
It was never advertised, it was never promised, it was never even discussed. You assumed it was coming (as did/do I) but that doesnt not mean that Kevtris nor Analogue owe you anything including an answer. Its clearly a gray legal area and its in their best interest to give no official stance. Why does everybody feel so entitled over this? This really doesn't appear to be from Kevtris. I don't think he would put it under Smokemonster's GitHub page.
Also, like everybody else I'm a little frustrated from the lack of comments from Analogue/Kevtris. If the answer is no to additional cores then that's fine but being ignored and giving absolutely no answer is not consumer friendly.
Edit: I should say so many instead of everybody. Clearly we arent all acting entitled.

I'd recommend buying a 32X, they're only going up in price and getting more rare. I love Kevrtris' work and have absolute faith he could bang out a perfect 32X core faster than he thinks. I think Analogue should Kickstart a Sega CD/32X add-on for their inevitable FPGA Genesis if they're concerned that the demand wouldn't justify the time and money spent. Set a goal for the kickstarter that would make it worth their time, they'd be shocked how much demand they see.
That sounds like a great idea. If they set the requirement for it to succeed high enough, then it could be like a preorder which can be cancelled if demand is not sufficient. The only issue is that kickstarter requires proof of concept and it might be a monumental waste of time if Kevtris does the reverse engineering and then the demand is not there. Maybe the cores he has already made count as proof of concept. I hope this happens. I'd be all over a $180 Analogue MD/SG followed by a $200
-
Yeah. Im on the bubble if I should buy a 32x now. I give Kevtris infinite credit so I am sure he could reverse engineer it
if analogue does release an eventual genesis FPGA system it would feel incomplete to me without access to the 32x games and the Sega CD games. Of course I get that releasing a mechanical drive system for posterity is a shaker proposition to being with so. . . Meh I can just see buying the whole genesis stack from eBay in my future -
I can't speak to any NTSC composite issues you may be having, but PAL composite and S-Video is broken in the latest Nt Mini jailbreak firmware. If you revert to v1.7 that red and green banding should go away.
Is this a widely known issue? Is it limited to NES cores?

Hi kevtris,
Would you be able to confirm if the Super NT stays within the RGB colorspace the entire time and outputs Full Range RGB 4:4:4 or if there is a conversion to RGB<->YUV done along the line before output?
And would it be possible to add an option on the fully buffed mode to keep the output as 60.08 but not slow the system down to 60.00 and maintain the 60.08 in/out?
Thanks
Why bother buffering if you want 60.08 out?

I love the idea of a Zimba 3000 in an aluminum block shaped like Kevtris' head!Whatever the names are, I have one proposal: If we ever get an all-in-one Zimba 3000 that’s released by Analogue and Kevtris, it should be called the Analogue KT. Bonus points if the console chassis is a solid piece of aluminum shaped like Kevtris.

I never go anywhere near my NT. I pick up my controller and power it on. Then I power on the NT with hot keys. I choose my core and I choose my game. I cycle through games. I cycle through cores. When Im done I power off the console with hot keys and power off my controller.
Depending on personal setup, it is definitely a nice option to have.
Seeing as the feature would be more useful to those with multiple cores, maybe it would be a request for jailbreak firmware (presuming that happens) rather than the official firmware.

It's already gotten past the point of being annoying. And if he is being sincere about his displeasure regarding the composite output, then he should just sell the damn things. Someone posted earlier in the thread that they're going for over $1200 on eBay right now. That'd be a nice little profit.
Hes already said that he has too much money, so he probably wouldnt bother selling them.

Wow. Lots of hubbub about not hearing about a jailbreak yet. Most of our consoles have not even been tendered to the courier yet, no need for concern quite yet.
