  1. I agree with Atariboy. They have a history of putting out quality products when it comes to build, UI, and aesthetics. The total accuracy they claim can be argued across all of their products, but even then almost every single issue currently are all very minor aside from FDS functionality with the original Nt Mini. I'm very confident they will work on the Pocket until they have something that will please the userbase.
  2. Thanks for that. I'm gonna pick one of those up for my Noir when it comes in. One of the first things I want to do is handle some 3D gaming on my PVM.
  3. Pre-ordered one. It's been the most interesting mini console since the SNES one for me. If it ends up being a flop I'm sure it'll resell super fast anyways.
  4. Pretty much, lol. I could quote at least 3 occasions with people completely flabbergasted on why Kev would go through so much work. It really is just that simple as he says. If Taber is a perfectionist by way of a Steve Jobs, Kevtris is kinda like a Woz in his own right. He really is a guy who likes the challenge and continuously improving upon his previous work, even if it means completely starting from 0. ?
  5. Can see my last post to see an answer to some of those questions lol
  6. While you're not wrong about moving it to the new hardware, he really did rewrite the entire thing: Speaking on the FDS mapper & audio filters: So what you should expect: * 100% Rewritten NES Core * Interpolation * 300+ NES Mapper/Full NES 2.0 Support * New FDS Sound Channel * New N163 (Namco 163) expansion audio * Fixed MMC5 * Fixed Mapper 64 (Tengen RAMBO-1) * Lowpass filters for any/all audio channels * Dendy Mode (Run NTSC Games in PAL w/ proper timing) * Analogue DAC Compatibility * Dual Output for playing & streaming * Running [Flash] Cart IOs at lower voltage * All of the previous features on the Nt Mini (NSF Player, Audio Toys, TIA Channel manipulation, etc) * All of the previous Jailbreak cores from the original Nt Mini * Intellivision JB Core * SMS, Game Gear, Colecovision (?) Cores ported from the Mega SG * New Unknown "Mystery" Core(s) * SNES SPC700 Music Player * Mandelbrot Zoomer * And...: Why did Kev rewrite the NES core?:
  7. I did question myself how much of a profit they truly make from an Nt Mini run. However, the Nt Mini (and NT before it, as well as the CMVS & NEO) all came during a time when the productions were all tilted towards being works of art vs functionality. So I'm willing to guess there really isn't much profit to be made despite all of them being very beautiful creations.
  8. I can tell you for sure they stopped right at the pay us now for TM part of the trademark process. It is very trivial for them to revive it. ?
  9. I really think Analogue really just wanted to: 1) Satisfy a final demand for the Nt Mini. and 2) Really make the last run a limited run unto itself. Taber really does echo as a Steve Jobs type, so he has a flair for the dramatic, and wanted to finally satisfy a big demand. He then likely requested to Kevtris to update it, to which Kev agreed on. This probably happened around late 2019 (Aug~October). The reason why I say this is due to Kevtris saying he completely rewrote the core. That would have had to have been around nowish for him to have it at a state that could be presented like in the YouTube video. It's more likely than not in the testing phase for bugs (and Kev adding new features), something Kevtris has himself stated can take a very long time. Kev has also mentioned that there is someone else working alongside him, so very likely splitting the duties for the Pocket & the Nt Mini now too. Now no one can say they didn't have a chance at having a final Nt Mini run, despite the very lame marketing. As everyone has noted or realized, the real value of the Nt Mini will now lay in the code which should be very easy to reconfigure into a smaller, cheaper device that has a more frequent run cycle. That would allow them to retire the NT/Nt Mini/Noir as a legacy/collectible item as well. Then they'll be full steam ahead with whatever comes (8?) and the Pocket. I'd say keep an eye on that supposed abandoned Analogue 8 trademark, especially around October-December
  10. People are gonna scalp anyways. Or never use the console and resell later at a mark up. I used to have that same qualm and justification to not do the same but not really anymore. Originally, preorder window was up for exactly 1 week, right down to the hour -- so it's really unsure if it was just an open window to get as many preorders as possible before they worked to fulfill them or what. The preorders you're talking about was likely people who cancelled their original ones. Even so, people made a ton of excuses on why they didn't want to purchase the Noir. A good chunk due to the cost being $500. Trust me when I say if the preorders reopen there will be people making the same excuses again, or hemming and hawing, instead of pulling the trigger, especially with now increased information on what this thing will be able to do. To be fair, if it reopens I'm gonna purchase a second one for the express purpose of flipping it. That's how sure I am that the Noir is gonna be stupidly expensive after it's long gone.
  11. This is definitely what I was saying many could have done in the same vein.
  12. I gave CE a go on the MiSTer and uploaded it to YouTube:
  13. This was a great interview. I got a chance to talk to Frank last year at Long Island at LIRG, and I could really tell the passion he has for game preservation and in a way that far supersedes what some people usually think (ROM preservation, simple game collection). Games were always unique from the beginning due to not only being an interactive piece of media, but also having multiple parts which could all be considered separate. The box & box art, the manuals, flyers and inserts, the cart, it's form factor, and then finally the data itself. From there, the guides (by the companies, 3rd party companies, and independent writers), the commercials created for it, artwork, and more. Each of these parts can stand on it's own and should be considered "art". And all should be preserved and have serious preservation efforts for them. I did tell Frank this after our almost hour conversation -- I was happy and proud that people who were hyper obsessive about this stuff like him existed and push every single day to save this stuff. There's simply no way that companies will care enough about preserving their own media, or if they do, they won't put in the money or time to go about it. Fans of video gaming really will have to pick up the torch and make this effort.
  14. You might think the UI is minimal, but it's actually integral to bringing it in line with their other products - the Super NT, Mega SG, their special edition variants, all of the jailbroken firmware and now the Noir (and it's inevitable jailbreak) now all share a common UI (and FPGA chip) which will work in tandem with the DAC. I wouldn't be surprised if the interpolation and the other features were simply possible due to the newer chip as well. I agree, $500 is a lot of money to pay up front. As I said earlier however, there was no real way you could have lost on the investment, even if it was in fact more of the same. Assuming it was, it would still sell on eBay at a later date for 700-1000, less if you really were desperate to get your return on investment. I had a friend who purchased the Noir months ago, later found out about MiSTer and it's NES core, and then finally decided he'll still hold onto the Noir-investment until he could double his money. Kev has already mentioned in the CG Discord that original owners won't be getting a "100% rewritten" NES core on it. He could probably clarify here so as I'm not speaking for him. I guess I am one of the few that saw there would be some changes with the UI, and immediately assumed that it would be a lot more than that information provided at the time.
  15. Yes I agree with you 100% — they could released the exact same product with slightly different branding and still sold gangbusters. The question is “Why would you expect more of the same?” I also agree that their delivery was kinda lame... I do feel bad for people who aren’t as informed as many of us are here and in the CG discord. The updated UI should have told many that it was a bit more than what should have been expected, at least for people who have been paying attention. Kev has mentioned many times that the older FPGA in the original NT Mini was almost full and could barely do much more. We’ve seen at least three years of development with a completely new UI and set up, the inclusion of a DAC and pretty robust features. If I was a person who had an older Nt Mini and saw this newer one, I would have given it a go regardless given how I’ve seen their track record. I guess reading back, I’m definitely in the minority on that. One thing I’ve definitely learned about Kevtris and Analogue is that never discount them on an attempt to wow people.
  16. I think they'd rather profit and still wow you with features -- hence the reason why so many people are complaining about not ordering one now. They've always been obsessed with their perception of "superior quality" in the retro gaming space.
  17. It says right above the highlighted "updated UI". How did so many people miss this? And new features should have been a given considering they have been on the same path of using a similar UI (with features) consistently since the Super NT's release, especially when they have mentioned before they want all future consoles to be consistent for DAC use. Kevtris & Analogue have consistently provided a better and better user experience with each console they've released. Why would they have taken 3-5 steps back with a simple re-release of the Nt Mini? You seriously could have just made a good bet on the assumption that much more was coming and purchased a console. If the console didn't end up being so much more, you could have still sold it back at value or at a slight (or decent) profit on eBay or locally. Sorry to say, but this wasn't exactly a bad purchase either way if this was your first Nt Mini. Now for people who already had an older Nt Mini and didn't want to take the gamble, I'm not sure what to say. It seems like it's about 50/50 on people who didn't purchase, or bought with the anticipation of new features (or to collect).
  18. I am fairly noob at Sega Saturn. So I have a question I'm interested in what else would be needed for MODE aside from a HDD/SSD? Anything else? Just picked a model 2 up that I'll be using.
  19. Or you can have a Goodwill like mine which hordes all of the games and good movies they get in and sell them online instead of at the store...
  20. Thanks! I really need to do a proper collection photo, but I'll wait until I get my 3D printed stuff in. With that said I'm taking a small break while I upgrade my set up and get my Nt Mini in, then I'll get back to it! That really sucks that your stuff is still missing. It's absolutely terrifying that it's just sitting in limbo somewhere.
  21. I did get the last bit of my FDS games from Japan. Lot of doubles, but it did shoot my collection up quite a bit. Now I'm 81/201 of the set.
  22. Speaking of, how do you print those inserts and holders Cooper? I would love to have those made for my own collection!
  23. I just recently started collecting for the system. Just about reaching 70 games with two last packages coming in from Japan before I take a break. Once the new Nt Mini shows up at my house, I'll get back to it! I need to get the stuff out to take a pic, lol
  24. You might not get a notice btw. One of my own packets shipped without email notice. I only know because I have my packages tracked by the Arrive app, which links to Analogue purchases via Shopify.
