    See Jar Run?

Well, that's not really what I'm asking. I just want to know if other people can get these to work, as it took some serious hot-linking to find information on how to create these (changing the environment variables and such), and I'm curious if they will work, for instance, on someone's machine that has something older than jdk 1.4.2 installed. And while a zip will compress the .class files, I don't think it will actually run the application (I thought that was the whole novelty of the jar). Or will it? Information on anything concerning java is ridiculously terse.

    See Jar Run?

So I finally figured out how to work this .jar crap, which makes java applications executable (i.e. running applets without an internet connection). They work on my machine, but I know very little about these .jar files and how they work. Can someone download these and tell me if they work? And if they don't, can you specify what happens, and what java stuff you have installed (jdk, platform, etc.)? Or, alternatively, if you know stuff, you can straight up tell me how these things work. Thanks a bundle. Hmmm, can't even attach them. Here's some so-fine links: Playfield Editor (22.3 KB) Map Editor (12 KB) All you have to do is download it, and then double click on it. Hopefully, a window will pop up that looks like one of these:
  3. Probably so, but it wouldn't be very relevant to vote for the only homebrew you own. The only homebrew I own is Ultra SCSIcide, and I don't think it's qualified to be Homebrew of the Year. But since it's the only one I own, it's really the only one I can intelligently vote for (well, that's not true, but I feel a little biased voting for the ones a relative of mine made). So I refrained from voting.
  4. I never really liked this one. Both IV and VI disappointed me. I didn't like how characters would keep leaving your party or how the storyline would kill them off. Kind of ruined the personal aspect of RPGs; I like playing with my characters (you know what I mean, perv) throughout the whole game. Unless I kill them off because they have a stupid name like "Butz."
  5. Are you referring to the G Major? Because I played that one back in high school. The whole friggin' thing, WITH repeats. My piano teacher was (inexplicably) in love with Mozart when she was in college, and tried to continue the love through me. I hated playing it. I'm forever jaded against it because of many boring practice sessions memorizing the Andante. The other two movements were fun, though.

  7. Here's a legit run: http://speeddemosarchive.com/MarioAllStars.html#M3SS100p Apparently it desynchs anyway if you try to watch them both through SNES9x in separate windows. And yes, that one is pretty sweet.
  8. It's not one continuous shot; it was done with an emulator, and it's quite old news. Read this and then watch the current version of the SMB3 tool-assisted run.

  10. As far as I know, that's the only way to kill them.
  11. Hmmm, perhaps I need a new TV. The "beige" and "yellow" things look absolutely identical on my TV. Needless to say, it's very vexing.
  12. Freeze them, then shoot them with missiles. If you're going to Tourian without the Ice Beam, you're either very brave, or very stupid.
  13. A better question is *how*? You'd need the bombs anyway; the maru mari alone isn't enough to escape the evil Metroids that suck the life out of you like a porn star. It is possible to beat the game without bombs, though, using the fun little door jump glitch.
  14. Um, we must have different copies of the same game, because the neon-yellow and the neon-off-yellow look drastically similar to me. It's always a "guess which color is which" situation whenever I play it.
  15. I have fond memories of this game, too. Ahhh, to be young again... *sniffle* Didn't this game have some sweet sound effects? And those little spider-esque, squiggly line sprites (in the first screenshot)! This game is so classic!

  17. Yep. Faxanadu rules, and it has a good name.

A bard with a long beard

Probably not. When I bought the game (or my brother, I don't remember), it came with maps of the first half of the game's dungeons, a map of the overworld, a table with all the classes and their respective equippable weapons, armor, magic, etc. So, after playing through the first half of the game, abusing those maps with wild abandon, I guess I got soft. For the last half of the game's dungeons, I had no map, so I had to make my own. The dungeons aren't really that difficult, but I like to make maps. I wanna be a cartographer! tee hee!
  19. Heck yes I do! I got it for $2 at a pawn shop. Probably my greatest/only rare find.

A bard with a long beard

That was my favorite part of playing old school RPGs. I still have a bunch of hand-written maps of games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior IV, The 7th Saga, Crystalis, etc. Good times in 7th grade. I even made a complete hand-written map of Zebes (or Zebeth) for Metroid.

    Doubleshot of Speed

http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...e=post&id=49008 My plan, which admittedly will most likely never come to fruition, is to beat the TG record (with or without the candle), and then record a run without dying or Up+A, since I also hate dying (I mean, who doesn't?).

    Doubleshot of Speed

Thanks. Doesn't ring a bell. Maybe if I heard it. Zelda 2 has been run before, but that record has since been broken by about 11 minutes: TG Record. And since I don't like TG, I want the record to be at SDA. Also, the current run has a lot of mistakes, like dying in inopportune places. I don't know if I'll go through with it; so far I've made it through Death Mountain without dying only once.

    Doubleshot of Speed

Not really; I'm perfect... Seriously, though, Contra could be improved by maybe 15 seconds, and Kid Icarus by 2-3 minutes, tops. But only some kind of crazy sadistic nut would want to play Kid Icarus enough to beat my time. I know I don't want to play it anymore (at least for speed, anyway). Honestly, I actually considered it. But I'm having fun with Zelda 2 now. I have no idea what this means. What the heck is Soulfood 76?
