Pretty cool stuff. Bayside Satellites was pretty cool. The classic D5 -> D(b5) at the end. Nice. You need a singer, though. And a drummer. I hate drum machines. What kind of gear do you have?

Uh... I'm not sure which link you're referring to, but these were definitely made without emulators (i.e. "live"). I plugged my NES into a VCR, shipped it to a guy who compresses the VHS to a digital format, who then uploads it to Radix, who runs SDA, who uploads it to the server. If you're referring to the SGnG link I gave you a while ago, that was also a legit run on a console, i.e. no emulators, savestates, or slow-motion. For more information on the emulated runs, go to NESVideos and read this page. There's a lot of bad blood between the so-called "emu-rapists" and legitimate console runners. I'm not one of those bigots; I don't really care either way as long as the differences are out in the open. In the past, several people have tried to pass off the emulated runs as legitimate runs; most recently there was a 47-minute Super Metroid 100% run that surfaced at TG, I think. It was quickly shot down. Google Video has been kind of a double-edged sword, as people are uploading avi's of TASs and not giving any indication that its emulated. Luckily, people from both communities are getting more and more careful about making sure every run in the public domain is clearly labeled as either emulated or legit. Some noble people at Bisqwit's site have been sifting through Google video and putting identification on all the TASs. See here for details. Read this for information on the rules of SDA.

best nes dragon warrior game?
tmont replied to 8th lutz's topic in Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) / Famicom
Well, what's "wrong" is that you can't control your entire party. I don't if that would make the entire game overrated. You can set the "strategy" of your party, like use lots of MP, save MP, offensive, defensive, etc. I found it was actually kind of nice not having to remember what all the individual party members' spells and special attacks were and stuff; the computer just did it for you. And if I recall correctly, if you're controlling Taloon, you can't do his weird merchant stuff, like roaring really loud and telling jokes. Now that I think about it, that game is kind of funny, too. That was kind of an annoying thing about the final chapter, though. -
How have you lived this long without knowing the joys of Hard Hat Mac?

Why? Because it's a good game and it's rare? -

I've only played I and IV, and I chose IV. I think it's the most unique NES RPG. -
Have you seen the multitude of hideous Mario hacks out there? They're probably sick of people stealing their ideas and turning them into crap. I doubt they'll even look at anything anyone sends them. And how is protecting your license being a dick? It's mean to run a business? I'm not saying this game is crap, by the way. It actually looks pretty cool, but I really can't imagine Nintendo giving permission to sell them (or anything Mario related).

If you want to learn more about the National Video Game Team, consult the most reliable source on the internet: Seanbaby.

I don't know about unbeatable, but they definitely aren't fun. More scrolling shmups need to be like Darius Twin, in that you keep all your powerups even if you die. Having to regain everything you've worked the last 20 minutes for every time your ship drifts into a white dot is annoying.

I could've sworn I saw a topic for this somewhere here, but a search revealed nothing. Anyway, this guy wanted to see how the average person played the first level of Gradius. Pretty interesting concept, although I couldn't handle reading the entire article, because it was a lot of words, and stuff. The video is pretty dope, though. Here's the article Here's the video

Doki Doki Panic. And sadly, it sucks compared to SMB2. It was cool that I happened to be coming home that weekend and was able to go. Nothing says "you're home for the weekend" like a huge collection of nerds! It was also nice to hear Fanfare for the Common Man in action.

your best 10 rpgs no one played topic

I can't believe they put Quest 64 on there. That game is so tediously linear. It's just one long winding road to the end. It had potential, but there were so many things that sucked about that game that made it almost unbearable for any length of time. -
Heck yes you did! Given my screen name, I had to reply.

That video is hilarious. My favorite line was "You saved a toad!" And was she crying at the end there to defeat the pirahna plant? That game looks kind of cool, but if the only character you can play as is Peach, then that's a little girly. That doesn't stop me from wearing lingerie, though.

Hmmm, I should've control-f'D with words other than golf. Mini-Putt [JVC] Putt Master [Taxan] Keep up this hobby, and you might be alone forever. tee hee!

According to this, you've got them all. And I'm pretty sure you're the only one with a fixation on NES golf games. Perv.

Well, it took some serious searching, but I think I found it: http://www.everyvideogame.com/manual-nes-G...nd_Slam_(U).htm Edit: Actually, this is the parent link to get to the manual, but the manual seems to be for NES Golf, not Grand Slam. That's odd...

Very sexy!

I think the challenge of doing that is what makes this game fun. They could've made another generic Final Fantasy where you walked around killing stuff and raising your level, but they added another dimension to it. It's more tactial than the others. I'd have to disagree. FFV is my favorite of all of them (and I've played them all). The jobs make this game replayable, which is something you can't say for any of the others. I've actually played through it twice.

Arcade game need to be 2600,5200,7800 part 2

...over and over for five hours and 200 levels. -
You're also going to need to test the collision between the enemy's bullets and the player's ship. The amount of comparisons might be reduced drastically if you restrict the number of bullets that each ship is allowed to fire. For example, if you only allow each enemy ship to have one bullet on the screen at one time instead of two (for instance), that will reduce the amount of collisions possible by half (at the most). A more lame solution would be to restrict the number of bullets the player can fire, say, to three (Mega Man style), instead of unlimited. Also, as I can't watch the new demo at the moment, if the enemy ships only move vertically, you would only need to check alignment between the player's ship/bullets and the enemy's ships/bullets. If they're not vertically aligned, then there is no reason to test for collision. However, if the enemy's ships can move horizontally, then that will make things more complicated. Edit: Hmmm, never mind. I just realized that you can move wherever you want, so horizontal collisions are indeed possible. Never mind. And, of course, my usual disclaimer that I don't really know what I'm talking about, so this might have made no sense whatsoever.

If I recall correctly, IV was the same way: a big, boring black backdrop for the battles. But it more than made it up for its boringness in the gameplay. That game is about as unique as you can get for an RPG.

I'm no expert on collecting, but I heard that if you keep stuff for a long time, it becomes rare because after many years people don't have that stuff anymore. I read up on collecting and that's what the stuff I read told me. Maybe a safe would be a safe place to keep rare or potentially rare stuff. And... That's the funniest thing I've ever read.

After the first one, the Dragon Warrior series started turning into Final Fantasy. They're still great games, though. (although I guess you could argue that every RPG ever made for a console are all exactly alike)
