Man, do I feel like a dope! I vaguely recall seeing threads on AA about some guy who cheated on game scores but did not make the connection in this case. I'm a little surprised that he "merits" a Wikapedia page. Sorry for the ignorance but now I'm curious as to what he actually did in 1983.......did he alter the photo he submitted to Electronic Fun magazine?

From the December 1983 Electronic Fun magazine.....how is a million even possible on Happy Trails? My score range is 200,000-250,000 while always playing the standard maze game. I measure my progress by completed rows of bags of money (two completed rows equals 16 mazes, then you start at a faster pace.) Numerous times I have completed 6 rows of money bags (3 levels) but that 4th level the speed is almost impossible to manage - your sheriff moves too fast and you're constantly pushing the side button to make him change direction while you attempt to rearrange the maze paths. I know I'm just howling at the wind but a belated congratulations to Mr. Rogers with a score of ! ! ! ! ! ! !.

This is very impressive. I don't know how many f-bombs I must have uttered about the putting on Chip Shot.

This thread motivated me to pick up a 5200 H.E.R.O. cart recently. As I have the C-64, 2600 and Colecovision ports I am very much acclimated with using one-button controllers for both firing the laser and setting dynamite. I nearly had a stroke when it occurred to my dumb self that the 5200 version requires TWO buttons. Thankfully I do have a RetroGameBoyz keypad module and this game plays beautifully with a Sega Genesis controller using the B/C buttons. I can't imagine anyone using the CX-52 controller to play H.E.R.O. (just way too much joystick precision is needed) but cheers to those that do!

This was my chuckle of the day. Ugly as this port is, it does have 5 different boards and all of the Burgertime elements are present. And the best feature of all as you now know.......you can pause the game during the action to grab another beer, Coke, or whatever!

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

How many kids must have cut off the thin "tip" from the light sabers back in the day? I always thought they were stupid as well. But at least you've got the replacements! Pic of my only two remaining Kenner figures.......the classic struggle of father and son -
Did some 2600 Activision gaming yesterday before the Lions/Jets game and I finally qualified for the Frostbite Bailey patch. And there is nothing quite like The Mad Bomber's O-face, is there? Patting myself on the back, Ted

On the 5200, I consider just getting to the magic rope (let alone with a perfect score) amongst the difficult tasks of all the 1980's platformers. I can't count how many times I tried and just said eff-it and turned the game off after spending hours on the hidden level. Those damn bats..... I'm like Jesse and don't impress easily but to anyone who finishes this game to completion, color me very impressed!

It is a pie and you'll only see it after 525,00 points. Moving on.......... http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-taz_8068.html

Any fans of this game? I am pretty impressed with it. After finally reading the actual manual and learning that the CPU opponent is tougher (and moves slower) when you switch the difficulty setting to 'A' this game is pretty good. Like most boxing games it is certainly a button masher but I think I prefer it to Activision's Boxing. The fans in the front row are a nice touch too. Atari made some pretty nice sports games in the late 1980's.....this, Super Football, Double Dunk

Anyone know what the "Surprise" food is after the Sundae? I surprised myself by getting to the tomato stage but these gaming reflexes ain't what they used to be.....

What's the 7800 community's view on MEAN 18 ULTIMATE GOLF?
TeddyBear89 replied to martianboy04's topic in Atari 7800
Agree with GoldenWheels that the putting is kind of goofy but it is more than sufficiently adequate once figured out. Personally, I wish the game had a variable wind factor. Otherwise, Mean 18 is a very solid 1980's golf game. Not that I'm any good at it but my personal best game did include my first-ever hole in one....but I'm a computer golf hack at best. -
Bases Loaded My Arcade Pocket Player
TeddyBear89 replied to TeddyBear89's topic in Dedicated Systems
Ain't gonna lie as I do wonder about the longevity of a $20 handheld myself....... That said, I would love to see a Tecmo Super Bowl or Konami (w/Blades of Steel and Double Dribble) handheld like this. -
I recently saw this at a Walgreens then came home and did a little research before ordering one on Ebay. Color me very impressed! I haven't played Bases Loaded on my NES in a long, long time but this little handheld certainly looks the way I recall it to be. No voices (which is a bit of a bummer) but for a $20 purchase this little gadget appears to be an amazing value. It includes all 4 installments of the Bases Loaded series and Hoops (which seems to be a neat two-on-two basketball game). As it appears winter has come a little early to my part of woods I will look forward to putzing around with this handheld in the old recliner. As this game has been available for a year now I was a little surprised that it hasn't been mentioned on this forum (from what I can see, any ways) so I thought I would do my duty.

Leaves being raked, the World Series still being played and getting that extra hour of sleep this Saturday night.......it is November! I have been checking AA at least 5 times per day for any Lode Runner purchase updates. I blame my mother for making me an only child that still hasn't learned any real patience in 50 years.

Hot off the press! I had long forgotten about this Easter Egg too. By pushing 3 and 7 on the right controller these initials do appear. Thank you Rickster8 and Bill246 for answering my inquiry.

Any B & the Beast experts here? Two questions: 1. Is there a different congratulatory message that appears if you complete level 10? Level 7 is my all-time high and I doubt my thumb will ever allow me greater heights so I'll have to settle with GREAT. This game is rough on old thumbs! 2. After completing level 3 the airplane that flies by between building levels with the banner (Lucky, Good Job) starts using "Awesome" in the rotation. Are there any other phrases one would see if they progressed deeper in this game? My mother would be ashamed of the foul language that spews out of my mouth when I lose 2, 3, or 4 lives in immediate succession at times but this game is an Intellivision immortal for sure!

Collectors......yes I certainly get that. I think what my real and pretty much uninteresting point was is that it is hard to reconcile Spiker's value with the actual game play. I get the rarity and holy grail mystique but when I finally got to really sit down and dig in it I was underwhelmed but glad to have had the experience. Off hand, I can only think of Bounty Bob Strikes Back on the 5200 as an example of a rare and excellent game but sure there are others that fit the description. One thing that would be a huge improvement on Spiker is if the ball wouldn't "float" for so long on volleys....... Thanks for not banning me on the Intellivision AA Forum for blasphemous prose.
-
Please let me preface this post with a truly heart-felt comment: I am very thankful to BSR for releasing Spiker in CIB form a few years back. It was a beautiful reproduction that I was very happy to purchase as I have no interest in a flash cart or spending the needed cash for the original cartridge. But now that I have spent about five solid hours with this game in both modes (2 on 2 and the gym mode) I am really starting to wonder...who would pay $1K for this original cartridge? Not a bad game, maybe I am not too acquainted with volleyball nuances but I'd rather play Slap Shot! than this cart. It just isn't that interesting of a game. Certainly it is a very competently programmed game but in the end...it is just meh. I LOVE Slam Dunk, Super Pro Football, World Championship Baseball and Mountain Madness so I am well aware that plenty of INTV sports game rock but with Spiker.....I just don't see it.
