  1. You don't need to use OG hardware to play your OG media, there are now enough solutions for that, the assorted Retrons, Analogues, etc. You can even load tapes on MiSTer via ADC. In any case collectors aren't necessarily interested in actually using the media, some don't even care for games at all. For these people it is an investment or a way to scratch the collecting itch. They entomb it, put it on a shelf, or even safe (lol) and are done with it. And the gaming ones often just use roms.
  2. Armchair capitalists are one of the funniest types of the internet dweller ?
  3. One is that archive.org page you linked to, it's a well-known repo, and there is lot of stuff on asimov. Also scattered in other places such as replacementdocs.com. I plan on trying to do this eventually for my collection, but it's not gonna happen anytime soon.
  4. The repositories already exist, what needs to be done is to sort out the content that's in them.
  5. Once again, this is a list of games which were not released on Amiga, not strictly Atari ST exclusive games (though some of them might be). It's important to remember that, even though overall it might be still helpful with looking for "best versions", seeing as most other ports were on 8-bit or some older DOS/Appl II titles (eg Sundog is arguably better on ST than on Apple).
  6. Because of gigantic updates (often day-one), it's safe to say that these days most AAA games do require an internet connection. Unless you buy some sort of GOTY edition later on...if they still do these, that is. I'm a bit out of the loop, what with PS3 being my last modern console. And yes, then there are abominations such as GT7 which absolutely shoud not have an always-online requirement. But then, it'd be less easy to pester people with their microtransaction bullcrap. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...
  7. Apple I auction going on. Current bid: 250,000 USD.
  8. Spectrum has the second place on that list when it comes to the amount of games. Nearly everything popular was ported to it. The list is most likely longer but it'd be quite a task to add to it and it seems a bit pointless anyway (why these 4 machines of all available ones?)
  9. Alright, like I said before this has been fun for a while, but you two are in an infinte loop yourselves, and it's getting ugly. Time to hit IGNORE THREAD.... (btw, the only way to "solve" your argument , after several pages of going in circles, is for one of you - or both - to stop posting)
  10. The chance that it will sell for this price is minuscule, but it's still possible. It seems annoying and silly, but it's not much dumber than playing lottery, really, and posting an ad costs nothing.
  11. The whole point of homebrew / bedroom coding was that you didn't need a full rig to do that, it could be done on a basic setup with minimal spending.. I was writing proto-adventure games on my ZX Spectrum 48k with a B&W TV and an old battered tape deck for saving progress. Many of those who managed to sell games commercially didn't have much more than that either.
  12. I haven't got a clue what this is all about, but it sure was fun to watch...a good ol' nerd argument
  13. This is not exactly on topic but I can't be bothered to start a new thread. Anybody got past the first few enemies in Heavy Unit? I keep thinking I'm missing something here...I'm in no way an STG wiz, but also not a total wimp, and this game seems impossibly hard. I can just about get the first power up from the skull snake, which seems to be only Speed, the survive the next 2 looping ones and then it's curtains, because of the gun towers + dragons + crusher. I mean, come on...this plays like Level 3 at least, not the beginning of the game
  14. This doesn't bother me at all, in fact I totally love the ability to play old games with my DS4's sticks...massive upgrade on d-pads or joysticks imo. I would consider this chatpad though it looks a bit unwieldy. Does it come in the way of holding the DS? Is it heavy? I had a quick look on my local marketplace and there isn't much choice, can't see this I-con one at all... MiSter actually already has a solution for keyboard keys, it's the "Button / key remap for game" option in the OSD. This way you can bind any keyboard keys to buttons/sticks/dpad in game, independent of the global binds. Sadly, it's not permanent, so after every reset needs to be redone. I made a request on github to make it saveable but it "got Sorged" really quickly (ie closed down with a bizarre explanation :D).
  15. I like the look and idea of your project and wish it well, but if I was you I would steer clear of bombastic statements and mock ups like this one. Especially seeing as you're still at the proto stage and are rather certain to hit some snags with both "hard & software". It's easy to attract a lot of scrutiny and set up yourself for a fall or at least some negative vibes this way. It's 2022, and we've seen a lot of pie-in-the-sky promising projects, which ultimately either flopped completely or turned out to be much more mundane than the hype would have it.
  16. The framerates weren't really "shocking", this is a modern perception of it. Back then seeing something moving at all in a 3D space was simply mindblowing, especially when it was a fairly complex (comparatively) flight sim. And when using wireframe gfx the fps was quite acceptable and the games playable, so it wasn't just a novelty factor. Games like Tomahawk were amongst my most played on ZX Spectrum.
  17. Sorry, but a game of this calibre would be an AAA title back then and everyone would have it, as long as it was in a reasonably complete state. So it's extremely improbable it'd get lost and did not surface until now. A manual page is also not a proof of its existence, because these kinda things happened all the time, alongisde adverts and mag previews "from the future".
  18. It's a time-honoured custom, that a Grammar Nazi will make at least one mistake in their "correction". Happens every time ?
  19. When you're in a tight spot, you have to. You have to adapt, drop the wants and concentrate on needs first. In your situation having a 90 USD phone bill is ridiculous, same as multiple cable subs. Even so, you do have a job and disability check resulting in income of nearly 2000USD per month, which is quite a lot for a single guy. You should use it to build a cash buffer for when times get hard (they will) and not count on miracle checks which might not materialize again. If you don't sort it out soon and have some sort of plan going, as people in this thread advise, you might find out that your current problems are nothing compared to living rough. Sorry to sound a bit harsh, but while I'm doing fairly OK now, there was a time when I'd been living in survival mode too, with half of your income or less in a big city, so I know the score. But that's when I was young & indestructible, can't imagine going through this shizz now.
  20. Just tried it on MiSTer FPGA + CRT TV, works fine for me. Nice game! I'd suggest level codes instead of more lives.
  21. He said he has sent 4 requests, I suppose one should be enough, or, in fact, none should be required to start with. Cancellation should mean automatic refund. Analogue's perceived coolness is absolutely not an excuse for such practices, and I'm also not sure why would you say that "I wouldn't want him as a customer". If the company states that cancellations are possible then that's what it is and they have to respect that. It's not the customer who's the bad guy here. And people bitch on forums all the time, and mostly about much less important stuff. A big retro company acting shady is actually something that is worth mentioning (even if making multiple threads is indeed excessive), certainly more than some guff about burgers being less burgery, or some such.
  22. If they are really ghosting the OP and delaying/refusing the refund, then it's a very shady move, which could well be called "a rip-off". It has nothing to do with chip shortage, it's just a nasty trick which a lot of companies do these days because they can, what with being virtual entities. And Analogue are a big company, not some hobby manufacturer. They can afford the staff to handle these refunds promptly and there should be no need to involve CC companies at all.
  23. Around here in Europe these are now in demand, easily going for 100+ USD.
  24. Of all the retro user stereotypes, there's none funnier than the Clueless Console Fanboi. Keep it up bud! ?
