I guess the sunlight reverses what the bivert mod does.
I prefer it because I mostly play handhelds at night, I rarely play them in the day. I found at night, with both a white backlight, and a bivert mod, the screen looks pin-sharp.
I guess, with all handheld screens, change isn't for everyone. I know a few who don't like the McWill mod for both the Lynx and the Gamegear. I believe their reasons is that they lose that "Retro" look, even though you can add scanlines to the McWill screen.
On my Gamegear, I had it re-capped by someone. I then ordered a white LED backlight kit, to replace the awful tube light. This made the original screen look so much better, and the backlight is a lot more evenly distributed.
I'm now wondering if it's worth doing the AGS 101 screen replacement for my GBA SP Tribal ?

Would this clone board be ok ?
I realise I'm being a cheapskate, but if I muck it up due to my wonderful soldering, lol, then I don't mind the £9 hit.
I also like the post earlier on that said the clone boards had easier solder points, that would help me, greatly.
I also believe that this screen worked ok ?
Many thanks.
Just to edit:
It would be awesome if someone could design a 3d-printed mini 1050 case.

Once you use a backlit, bivert-modded Gameboy DMG, it's hard to go back to the green non-backlit version. Although, you can get a green backlight, to give it that authentic look.
The pro-headphone mod is also a must, since it gives clearer sound, without any interference from the backlight.

One Atari 800 game I absolutely loved, but sucked at, was "The Great American Cross Country Road Race". I played this to death, but always found it frustrating - probably because I just wanted to go flat out, all the time.
Today, after years of Outrun, ChaseHQ, Colin McRae Rally, Dirt Series, Project Cars 1 & 2, etc... I now find the game a little too easy. Although I still enjoy it.
Would love a updated modern version of the game.

Anyone who wants to turn this thread into the "bitching about being blocked from the other thread" thread, you will be promptly and happily blocked here as well. For the hundredth time, we are not the thought police, and we are not in the business of wantonly blocking or banning anyone who disagrees with us. The moderators are here to enforce the forum rules, not any kind of mob mentality.
I would like to take the time to formally apologise for my antics in that thread. I'm not asking to be let off, or allowed back in that thread, I genuinely feel a idiot, now. And there are times I just lose it.
I don't hate the US, or Americans.
So jaybird3rd, please accept my apologies, I'm genuinely sorry, and it won't happen again.

For me it was SIO2SD.
But also, a few years ago, I was lucky and got a new-old-stock bundle comprising of a 1050, 1010, Trak-Ball, Atari 800XL. Upto then, I already had my original A8 XL, 1010, 1050, disks. But all onboxed. I wanted a lovely pristine boxed Atari A8 bundle, and struck lucky.
Today, it would be the awesome SD-Max

Downloading on PC, has taken over. But on console, at least over here, it's only around 35%. Physical media, will always be the main buying choice for console. While downloading, will be limited to those with fast internet, and unlimited data.
I see a PS5, and Xbox Two, both with optical drives - because both Sony and MS see retail not going away for a long time.
Back to the topic, Would you like to see a return to cartridge ? Yes, I would.

But, if you are NOT a backer, then what does it matter to you what other people do with THEIR money ?
People lose money, every single minute of the day, across the entire world. The world is not unicorns and magic beans, it's often a nasty horrible world with powerful people screwing over poor people, no matter where they come from.
I see betting shops springing up across the UK, and almost every week, there is yet another online betting company starting up. These aren't here to make you and me rich, they're there to take our money. Before our laws were changed, people could lose upto £100 every 10 seconds. Yet, I don't see 450 pages of angry posts against betting companies.
Frankly, I find your attempt to quash free speech to be highly offensive and disgusting.Free speech does NOT give you the right to trash other people, or post crap about other companies. I find YOU and other here all jumping on the Atari hate bandwagon, disgusting. You are COWARDS.

We also hate empty database tables. It's really more of a side gig and not something we tend to advertise, but this thread is a convenient way to stone that bird as well.
What about Atariage being liable for it's user's posts ?
I mean, I know UK law, but I'm not 100% with US Law. But, posting in a pack mentality, with many posts really close to libel. Atariage, would/could be liable for it's user's posts. So, it wouldn't be you getting sued, it could/would be Atariage.
I mean, I have zero intention, or interest, in this Atari box. But I also don't need 441 pages to post this, or to vent at the Atari guys. If you don't like whats going on, then move on.

Glass houses and all....Wow, I have my own Atariage stalker. Creepy.
How is a company set on taking $3 million under false pretenses subject to "bullying"? If that's the trade off, by all means, bully me. I need a jet-ski.If they've done something illegally, then why don't you all use your laws and report them ?
I mean, IF they've defrauded anyone to the tune of $3 million, then surely U.S. law would deal with them ?
-
If you're still asking, then the answer is "yes".
I find it's turned into almost bullying, and often bordering on harassment.
If I was a mod, I would have locked this weeks ago.
But hey, what do I know.

If you like them or want moreWe don't.

But that doesn't prevent anyone from pointing out what a colossal shitshow Atari SA has put on while taking your (and others') money.
Does it need 441 pages to point that out ?

Nice to see a 1701 with the flap still in place, and not broken.
I wonder if there is anyone out there who 3-prints CRT monitor flaps ? I'd bet they would make a small fortune from Philips and Commodore monitor owners.

Why does having a low serial number matter ?
As long as the machines work, thats all that matters.
Really irks me that, on ebay, I see ads saying "low serial number", followed by a massive inflated price.
Congrats on the pick-up. That 410 looks lovely condition.

Today's hardware is a lot more advanced, and complicated, so a lot more to go wrong.
Don't forget, old retro hardware, at some point, will require re-capping, batteries need replacing, ULAs replacing, keyboard membranes replacing, ram chips replacing, power supplies susceptible to power spikes (like the C64, and Atari power brick) need replacing.
My 800XL machines are still going strong, as is my ST, and other Atari machines. But I do worry about the 800's ram, at some point, going wrong.
I have already had to re-cap my Amiga 1200, BBC B + Master PSU re-caps. Membranes for my Spectrum and Spectrum+.

I found the TAC-2 to be one of THE most over-rated Joysticks I have ever used.
There is no feedback, like you get with a nice micro-switch Joystick, so you never know if you've registered a move.
The fire buttons are even worse, and feel awful.

What about a USB device that comes with the game disk/cart/media, that can deal with copy protection - perhaps ties itself to your machine and the game's serial.
The USB device will then be used to store patches, saves, custom configs, etc.. So, if in the event your machine crashes and wipes everything, or you uninstall the game, etc... When you re-install the game it will look for a USB device and a "patches" directory and install patches from there, without the need to download them again. And, all your saves and custom settings are restored from the stick. All done, without a internet connection - incase your internet is down, or having issues.

I love mechanical keyboards.
My PC RGB keyboard has MX Blue Switches, they sound amazing.
I also have a old Dell AT101W with ALPS switches. I love this thing so much, it's in my Will.
I don't use it because it was new old stock and I want to keep it pristine, but I often just get the keyboard out just to stroke it. My family think I'm weird. My all-time fave would be the Cherry G80-3000 HFMGB. This thing should come with a 18+ rating, for keyboard lovers. If I hooked this thing upto Opry99er's Sennheiser condensor microphone, any mechanical keyboard lover in range of the amp would need a box of tissues.

For retro machines you can't beat a BBC Micro/Master, gorgeous keyboard. The TI, also sounds amazing. The Oric Atmos, also not bad for such a small computer.

Hey, I'm no spring chicken. At least you still have all your hair
I'm thinking of growing my eye brows really long and doing a massive comb-over. Or should that be comb-back-over.
