  1. Thanks for downloading! Let me know what you think when you try it out!
  2. For the past couple of days I've been working on a 2600 version of the DSiWare game "Bird and Beans." If you haven't heard of it, essentially you play as a bird with a really long tongue, and you use said tongue to eat beans before they hit the ground. If they do hit the ground, it creates a hole that the bird can't cross. I tried to recreate the game on the 2600 as best as I could, and gameplay wise it works just like the original. More points are scored for eating higher beans, and there's two special beans (a white one that restores a block of the ground, and a blue one that gets rid of all the beans on screen and restores the entire ground). Here it is in action. Overall, this took me about four days of work. Hope you enjoy it! birdandbeans.bin birdandbeansV2.bin birdandbeansV2.1.bin birdandbeansV2.2.bin
  3. Funnily enough, before I joined here I made my own Doodle Jump game for the 2600! Having that said, this version is way better than mine. I'm impressed by the smooth scrolling and jumping. The character controls nicely, too.
  4. You're correct that Asteroids does use flicker. The game alternates between drawing the ship and drawing the Asteroids on each frame. As for how it displays each one of the Asteroids on a single frame, it actually moves each sprite's x position before drawing each line. However, even when using this method you should keep in mind that you're essentially limited to two sprites per line. Asteroids on the 2600 has one set of asteroids moving upward all at the same speed, and another set all moving downward at the same speed, thus ensuring that no more than two asteroids are on the same line. You may want to design your game so that no more than two characters can be on any given line, or employ flicker if there's more than two characters on a line.
