If one is familar with the story of The Boy who Cried Wolf, it might be understandable why the PBI register 'issue', apparently reported some years later by means of a series of mocking forum posts, might fall on deaf ears.

This makes sense. I always ever read AtariAge.

But this would pre-suppose that the issue is actually a 'bug' at all. Candle thinks not:

I actually never cared if this was real life or purely academic.

... and always had a bag of good popcorn on my lap while watching its evolution on AtariAge. 😈

Does it exist a stand alone SAM routine able to speak the phrases that could be easily fitted in one (or two) 4K memory bank with all the necessary data?

I just had a quick look at its memory consumption using ? FRE(0) in BASIC.
    21896 when SAM is loaded

    32274 without SAM

So it uses a little more than 10K of which the loaded code are 9607 bytes ($2000-$4586).

This is little more than a continuation of an already well-publicised spat between XXL and Candle regarding anomalous U1MB corner-case behaviour concerning repeated PIA registers, which - again - was exploited after the fact to propagate another long-running bone of contention which is of interest to no-one at all but the developers arguing about it, until the point that one of them has the bright idea to publish software which deliberately crashes machines equipped with hardware towards which (or towards whose designer) he holds some arbitrary grudge.

Not that I support the destructive actions of XXL but to some defense comes that Candle for a long time ignored all remarks about these incompatibilities at all and

only admitted them quite late in the storm (IIRC it was more than a year).

I don't know XXL personally but being ignored with a problem will never lead to any positive attitude.

My security software says this is an unsecure site, the page it takes you to does nothing apart

from show a couple of links, which again are not useful, is there a secure version of this site, without

it I'm not sure anyone would want to use it.

LOL (or should I better write cry?), insecure because there are only links which are not understood by the artificial unintelligence of security software.

But honestly: I guess that he put the image to his NTFS server and not any webserver.

    The Black Patch

IMHO has this disk hardware-damage for protection.

Can you please check the bottom side for any visual "things" and make a photo if you find something?

I wouldn't expect it as intrusive as the first picture in this post but maybe like the second one.

Perhaps some of the readers here know how to use the tool and could test in Altirra if the ATX works (which I do not expect):

The Black Patch Master.scp.atx(must NOT be write-protected)

And then please test if my quick and dirty crack works:

    Black Patch!, The v1.1 (1987)(Computer Software Services)(US)(Master Disk)[cr CSS].atr (must be write-protected)

As far as Chance goes, the size of the question mark is pushing the text further up than any other board space. I've been wanting to redo it smaller, but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

This by itself does not disturb because the text is inside the range of the color bars.

If you align all fields without a color bar to Chance's position, it will look balanced.

    Very nice looking.

It would be interesting to develop a 'board game server' via fujinet that could connect instances of people playing this or other board games. Server itself would just connect the various instances together and who is playing with who and pass the game packets along as necessary. Likely would be suited for a small linux instance on some device. Peer to Peer(s) game play with one instance selected as 'primary'.

The games would have to be written to support it, of course (or maybe extensively modified if they are already multi-player). This would be a great game to start with.

This is already being worked out.

    Check Fujinet's homepage.

The basic server exists and you can already play 5 Card Stud Poker and Reversi.

Question, is it possible to dump the Atari RAM to a file during emulation, say at a breakpoint?

    Yes, from Altirra's .help:

    .writemem Write memory to disk

Write a block of memory to a file on disk.

        .writemem <path> <xaddress> L<length>

The address may use extended memory syntax, i.e. v:4000 for VBXE
      memory.

    Commands <xaddress> accept extended addresses:
$0000 CPU view of primary memory
$01:0000 CPU view, 65C816 high memory
$EF'4000 CPU view, extended memory ($4000 with PORTB=$EF)
n:$0000 ANTIC view of primary memory
      v:$00000 VBXE memory
      r:$0000 Main memory
      x:$00000 Extended memory
t:$01'A000 Cartridge memory, banked view (bank $01, address $A000)

    Some commands support length syntax:
      db siov L100
      db 4000 L>5FFF

Commands taking <path> also accept ? to interactively select the file.

Interesting approach, and the output does look good.

I am wondering why RF was used instead of directly taking signals from the GTIA, however.

It does take the signals from GTIA. It only "abuses" the RCA jack of the TV out as its output port - after cutting off the output from the modulator.

Word Attack! (1983-1989)(Davidson)(US)[disk] Set #2 Includes untested C64 files

Box is different so I am posting all contents.

Disk 2 misses sector 28 which is needed right after the shooting splash screen.

Fixed with data from the other set:

    Word Attack! (1983-1989)(Davidson)(US)(Side 2, Program)[disk][f].atx

And btw. this whole release is different, not only the packaging. Inside a file it carries a release date of 03-27-87.

    That was interesting.

I used Ape and the Black Box to move drives around without changing IDs on the units themselves.

Phaeron and ijor ask what drive you used to dump these sectors because it seemingly cannot have been a 1050.

I guess that I should have given more attention to your mentioning of the Black Box. ;)

Best answer directly to that posting.

    Jupiter Mission 1999 (1983)(Microcomputer Games)(US)[disk]

    Boot with BASIC.

I spent a couple hours on this one.  It looks like someone opened a can of coke over the disks.  I had to clean the disks, the drive and re-record several times.  I finally did get clean copies.

Mostly clean: Three neded and several unneeded sectors close to the end are missing.

Repaired using sectors from set #2:

    Jupiter Mission 1999 Disk 1[f].atx

Learn About Words in Reading 2 Grades 2-4

I am not sure what is going on here.  It boots to Black Rabbit 1.5, but the files look like it might be the right stuff. AUTORUN.SYS overwritten?

Not only AUTORUN.SYS was overwritten but the first half of the disk. Thus I cannot repair the disk.

Black Rabbit seems to be a sector copier from ANALOG.

  14. While converting @SoulBuster's SCP image of Forms Generator (SCP is contained in the linked post's big ZIP file), a8rawconv 0.92 and 0.94 detect sector 12 on track 4 as a valid and good one while it does not even have any data block.
We have two more flux-dumps from this company which show the same behaviour.

Reading from the original disk followed by a SIO STATUS command DVSTAT returns $04 and DVSTAT+1 $BF.
@ijor I completely failed in trying to provoke $BF with an ATX file and was only able to receive $CF, $DF or $EF.

Found track 4, sector 12 at position 0.05
Decoded FM track 4, sector 12: 128 bytes, pos 0.049-0.084, DAM FB, CRC 2FB7 (OK)

IT DOES BOOT!  WooHoo!  I will get a new copy as soon as I can.  Will ATX ever support DD, ED?

Yeah, this is what I had expected.

ATX will support DD. ijor and phaeron are currently discussing details of its implementation.

It does boot on real Hardware.  I will get a new copy as soon as I can.

Since we already have two other dumps with the same problem, I do not expect a fresh dump to be much different.

Can you please run the attached image against your physical floppy and return the resulting image to me?

It will extract all sectors from track 4 plus each of sectors 84 and 85 two additional times.

Take care not to accidentally overwrite your original disk.

    Dos25Extract 25th.atr

Example run assuming you booted the ATR from D1 and put the physical Forms Generator disk in D2:
(The program will also work with only one drive. It then asks to switch disks.)
