Eighty-Six Sprites [was "Sixty-Nine" Sprites]
Stephen replied to RevEng's topic in Atari 7800 Programming
Thanks for these demos. I had absolutely NO idea the 7800 was such a sprite powerhouse. I also did not know how heavily the Jaguar borrowed from it, with the object list, single scanline buffer, etc. Always looking forward to these great little demos. -

Excellent demo. Would it be possible to use this colour palette (from the 8-bit, I believe this was done in Graph2Font). -
Bubsy 3D on the Atari Jaguar (Not a clickbait)

Well bro, just consider the source bro. You're a none dev so you don't know WTF you're talking about and what the Jag can do. He is an all knowing dev, so the universe shines out of his rectum.- 83 replies

Don't underestimate how much compatibility played a factor too. As cool as it was having multiple computers to choose from in the 8-bit and 16-bit days, can you imagine if modern game publishers had to support a dozen machines, all completely incompatible with each other still? Granted, we would hopefully not have 5,000 games that look identical because they use a point & click build engine, but I digress.

So I just discovered I own a complete Battle Sphere Gold
Stephen replied to NowThereAreNoLimits's topic in Atari Jaguar
I'd like to know where the original came from, because it was clearly stolen from a table that the game was being demoed at. No release candidate was ever released - it was whatever current build was being demoed. An example would be the version I played at Toad Computers back in 1996. -
The planning for this event is so bad. This year, the hotel rooms were 100% booked before the dates for the show were even announced. There is no way I am willing to pack up (what I always do) - a minimum of 5 systems, 5 CRTs, and all the supporting hardware, drive 6 hours one way, spend hours setting it all up, only to have to leave the show at close time and drive to another hotel to stay. Another part of the fun, is hanging out in the lobby with other folks. The 2 shows the wife & I attended, we stayed up both nights until almost 3AM drinking and talking, etc. All of that experience is gone if I have to travel elsewhere. If I was just a guest wanting to travel to the show, my points would not be valid. But this is coming from someone who seriously busted ass for the 2 years I attended to put on a nice display and interact with people. It's insane that as vendors / presenters, we don't get some kind of advance notice for this.

Haven't been able to make it for 4 years The way the hotel situation is, it seems the only way I will be able to get a room is book a room for the entire month of September on January 1st, then wait until the show gets announced a few weeks before it's time to go.

Like the Jaguar and its logo?

A multi-core 6502...would that be possible
Stephen replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Definitely don't want to sell it. I messed with the accelerated graphics modes a little bit, and wrote a little debug utility to show some bugs when accelerated CPU was used (it broke some GTIA timing IIRC). But I didn't do too much with it, as I started messing with the VBXE upgrade as it has a much higher install base, and I would like to see it get even more popular and I figure the only way to really sell hardware is to have software for it. -
What has been changed in the driver regarding the NTSC core?
-
That's an impressive bit of machinery there!
-
Yes - very sorry for that. The most recent driver, is CON.SYS.

This is where we will rapidly start having some "pain points". The Jag homebrew scene has been very active for 20 years now. It was an open platform. All of a sudden - patent trolls come in and start gobbling up stuff. When someone like Carl who has been supporting the Lynx and Jag since the current CEO of Atari was barely out of diapers has to all of a sudden stop using a logo, rebrand his catalog, and ask for donations to offset the cost. How in god's name are we supposed to believe that this buyout is a good thing that won't affect how business is conducted? Surely you have to see it from this point if view.

Does anyone know what the power supply for the Atari Touch Me is?

Here's the deal though. If you had a car that looked like that, you could get all the girls that looked like her, that you wanted

Hasbro opened the platform and released all NDAs on the development stuff but they explicitly refused to authorize the use of the Jaguar or Atari names or trademarks If that is true then it's a pretty closed case then.

Ooh - I will test this on my CRT (it's a Sony PVM) and try to get a photo later this evening. Will be interesting to see how it looks as the PAL machine I currently have hooked up is using VBXE. Been forever since I hooked it up - I don't believe it has composite or s-video hoked up to the display so I won't be able to test those.

Once you have the 2 files (S_VBXE.SYS and CON.SYS), you can either add them to a config file, or simply type the names at the command line, and it will load them. Even though they end in sys, they are just binary load files.

Sorry for the late reply, been swamped at work. The drivers you'll need are in the SDX Toolkit and unfortunately, all the files are in ARC format. I just downloaded the most recent bugfix version - let me attach them to the post here. I don't have a recent version of con80.sys on my PC - you will have to grab that from the toolkit. s_vbxe.sys

I fear it's the beginning of the end of a fun 22 year run here. -

Stephen replied to carmel_andrews's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yes - it's a wonderful thing. On the fly switching of PAL/NTSC. Ability to have stereo PoKey. CPU multipliers up to 32X. GTIA/ANTIC multipliers of 2X, 4X. Real SIO peripherals and real controllers, and real carts supported. It's a kick ass system. Had mine since 2017. https://www.flickr.com/photos/75619516@N06/36247463563/in/album-72157684901793962/ -
This. I am trying to be positive, but after being a member since the forum was a whopping 5 months old, I truly fear this is the death knell. I'd love to be proven wrong, but can guarantee I won't.
