  1. The more offensive thing about that is, the multiple palettes of 7800 Ballblazer + Pokey carts were destroyed as e-waste when O'Sheas went out of business. That depleted the stock of PoKeys more than anything else.
  2. But hey - we've only had 15 other options to choose from, so what's one more?
  3. Yeah. Bill Alexander was his mentor. He stole everything from him. His technique, his paints (then created his own line), everything. I guess Bob just considered it a "happy little accident".
  4. Cool video but those are all 2600 games, not from the 8-bit computer.
  5. Using s-video (or even better, RGB) will eliminate the artifacting. Composite and RF will have the problem.
  6. I love these threads, there is always a way to shave one byte or one cycle it seems.
  7. Do you have a way of measuring the temp of the GTIA? Alternately, can you let the machine run until it echibits this behaviour, and then cool down the GTIA (heatsink, freeze spray, finger on chip)? When helping debug the 576NUC, I was able to determine with one degree Fahrenheit, when my particular GTIA would predictably fail. A passive heatsink cured the issue.
  8. There are certain stories I will never not stand up too. They are - Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Bob Ross (he fucked over his teacher and mentor Bill Alexander in an unforgivable way). Maybe I am petty, but I feel I must do this.
  9. Again - may I ask where you are located? I am putting myself on the line here, and offering to fix this machine for you for free if you need help (free labour and diagnosis, I don't have a stash of free parts). wareat is not in the business of ripping people off, these machines are old as shit, but if treated nicely, there are hundreds of us around the globe that will help others to keep our little hobby going.
  10. They never innovated. Just took other ideas and slickly packaged them and over-priced them. Even going back to Jobs stealing parts, time, and info while working at Atari, to everything that followed. Hell - Jobs even screwed Wozniak on the Breakout deal (1975), so he's always been a huckster.
  11. Wow - I haven't seen one of those crappy generic "blue light special" K-Mart tapes in ages. I wonder what is on the 3 "blank" tapes (recorded by a user, the non-APX ones). Not sure where you are located, but I (and many others) have equipment to preserve the contents (non destructively too). You can message if interested, or you may even have the equipment to do so.
  12. I hate to say it, but it may not be the mylar. PoKey (the sound chip) handles the entire keyboard EXCEPT for - start, select, and option, which are read by the GTIA chip. It's possible that chip just died. I find it highly unlikely that only those 3 function keys would be indicative of a bad mylar.
  13. Good luck with that - we (the Atari community) have only been asking for that for 11 or 12 years now.
  14. There is - search for "Colleen Android".
  15. I love the look of the money, and it's also a huge brag for additional colours on the screen.
  16. I thought it was just me having a memory issue (what thread am I in)!
  17. Do you perhaps have a VCR? Sometimes passing the signal through it can help put it back in spec. Plug the Atari into the VCR's video in, then run the VCR video out to the monitor.
  18. But remember, this isn't some crap homebrew game, they are professionals!
