As mine doesn’t have a built-in battery I’ve bought a USB power bank to power it away from the mains, works really well.
just wish I could get high score saving on MAME2000 and MAME2010, only my MAME2003 core is doing that.
-
A MAME2000 core is now on the retroarch Android downloads page and works with this, using that some games that run slowly on MAME2003 run full speed. NEO Mr Do! and Galaga and Gaplus are three that definitely benefit that I have on mine.
Finally think I’m done messing with it now (though I’ve said that before!)

There's supposed to be... mine used to have a brief battery life, now it's dead. Same with the Data East My Arcade. The DE one must at least have better specs.
Yeah think the bigger 10” version does. Certainly this one doesn’t, the mini, or if it did it doesn’t now - I checked the instructions.
Nice long usb power cable though.
A tip for anyone who has an issue where they have the main screen with both galleries and whenever they press B for the extra one it comes up with the launcher selection screen:
Check your games list json file, chances are you’re missing a comma or a bracket or a parenthesis somewhere.

Been messing about with it, adding more games - ran into some issues today. Not sure what the chain of events were but at one point my laptop I was using to power it/transfer stuff decided to go into sleep mode which pulled the power to the game quite suddenly. Also lost the access to the drive the script writes to. Eventually it went into a boot loop but seems the manufacturer has built in a fix as the android robot thing popped up and then when I switched it off it was reset back to stock and I could add everything again.
All a bit scary so now it’s all set up I’m just going to leave everything as it is!
Also had a weird thing when I’d added Hiscore.dat that it conflicted with dkong.zip in mame2003. Swapped it for dkongjp.zip instead and all good. Suggests the hiscore.dat or the dump I have of donkey kong US isn’t quite right.
-
Strange how under-powered it is, especially given it’s USB-powered, there’s no battery to run it disconnected.
Going to add all the Mr Do! series but can’t see me playing Neo Mr Do! on it, runs way too slow.
But it’s on there for completist/proof of concept reasons

Managed to get samples working.
GORF was too slow in MAME2003 so switched it to MAME2010 for that one and it’s pretty good.
The aspect ratio on that game was always a bit strange so I’ve set it to be really stretched on this.
Just slowly adding games I like and will play, for thumbnails I’m using photos of the actual cabinet, and screenshots are exactly that.
-
I got one of these yesterday, GAME were selling them half price (£50 - about $65 US). Might still be expensive compared to what they cost over there but things are always more expensive here!
Hacked it this evening using the GitHub script, all nice and easy.
Just started adding a few arcade classics to it, so far I’ve added Mr Do! and Donkey Kong to the menu.
One thing I’m not sure about is can Samples be added for games like Berzerk and GORF (I think both use sound samples).

For what it's worth, here's my current set up - just the theme that Draxxon uploaded that i like and a modified .ini file.
Just added back in a couple of Starpath games mentioned in a thread on tha AtariAge facebook page which I tried and enjoyed.
All credit due to Draxxon and others for their hard work.
There's a back up of Draxxon's ini file, just a matter of pasting them back in to mine if you wish to add any others.
You'd also need Draxxon's ATARIV1.1.RAR and ATARIVX.1.RAR from elsewhere in this thread too.
Copy my .ini into the rom folder and you'll have a reduced set which shows artwork and info but it will be quicker to navigate through and the menu will appear faster.

Cheers Draxxon, been doing exactly that - backed up your ini and then edited it to leave in the ones I wanted and can then paste back in any others as I go along.
-
Had a look at it Ron, i like what you’ve done with the game info but I prefer my set up, the “light fiver” theme Draxxon did is superb.
Surprised you haven’t included Donkey Kong VCS and Scramble in your rom folder, they’re superb imho.
-
Might take a look Ron, thanks. Got my main Rom file down to about 130 games already, and there’s a few I’ve got in there only because I’ve heard of them.
Of homebrews just Scramble and 4K and 8K pac-man made the cut.
Dropped a lot of the included games, can remove the usb stick to play those if I ever wanted to.

All sorted now.
Copied the .sh and .ini file the same time as the update and the custom fw all works now.
Love the new woody artwork and bezels I got from here.

Ok I now have upgraded to AR3060_v0.1.18 - it seems the fw on Bill Loguidice’s page wasn’t the latest one and possibly wasn’t the correct one either, this is from the ATgames firmware portal.
now if I put the Atari update custom fw image on the usb stick it does give the option of installing it but nothing seems to change. I’ve also flashed it from the Android tool, again nothing seems to change.

Just to be clear, did you already try a OGI/Y-connector with a USB in it with the FBX on? If it has the reset button underneath it is the latest edition, which means that 1.7 may already be installed. That firmware version might already recognize the USB. Just don't want you to waste time on a firmware downgrade for a capability you may already have.
Did the upgrade yesterday. Version I have now is AR3060s_v0.1.2 according to the About section.
Strangely I can’t upgrade to the custom fw via either putting it on the usb stick or flashing with the Android tool, the usb stick method doesn’t attempt to upgrade and after using the Android tool it only boots into the Android bootloader menu not the fbx menu.
Very strange. I have the 110 game normal version so the official fw I have being 3060s not 3060 is a bit odd.

I also had no success in updating the driver but luckily I saw the following comment in the Patton Plays youtube how-to and it totally worked for me....
Hello I had the same problem. Please use another Rockchip driver than the one they deliver with it! So first uninstall the one that you tried. And download Rockusb_Driver_v3.7 (you can find it for free on google) Than go to X64 folder --> win8 (if you have win8 or win10) --> rightclick the file rockusb.inf and install Now it should work! Cheers!Might try that later, thanks. Still have the custom fw stage to do.

Got a fbx yesterday and spent literally hours trying to get the official firmware update to work!
My usual windows 10 pc I tried turning off driver signing, that didn’t help, ended up buying a windows 7 licence and replacing the Linux on my old netbook with that.
Still didn’t work.
The drivers on the atgames website don’t seem very good at all.
Anyway did eventually get the Android loader thing to detect my fbx, here’s my tips to save anyone else the time I spent.
Don’t bother with windows 10, get a windows 7 install.
Get a usb cable you know will transfer data not just charge (only 1 of my 5 usb cables actually did).
I confirmed this with a sandisk MP3 player I’ve had for years.
Connect the usb cable to the pc and connect the hdmi lead to your tv.
Press the reset button and switch the fbx on.
You should see the Android set up screen on your tv.
At that point windows 7 will look for working drivers for the Android tool etc and will install them, might take a while but they worked for me unlike the supplied ones I kept reinstalling with no joy.
Once windows gives the message that the device drivers have been set up you can launch the Android update tool and it will detect the device and allow you to load the updated firmware.
Would just be easier if Atgames shipped them with the usb-ready firmware.
Mine has the reset button underneath btw.
I still have the custom fw step to do, I’m planning on having a reduced set based on Draxxon’s work in the roms so it’s quicker to load and navigate, the bulk will just be in the usb storage section.
Thanks Draxxon and thanks Brad_from_the_80s. -
Ive got two of these. TV Boy 2 and a TV Boy 3. The 2 uses a rf cable and the 3 is a joypad with av out. Every Atari fan should have a 3 imho!

Thanks but sounds complicated! It is possible to connect Atari joysticks (and sega/nintendo gamepads) directly to the raspberry pi gpio pins. There is a driver for it but sadly it doesn't support paddles.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/GPIO-Modules#db9_gpio_rpi
Or just use a standard usb game controller. Most game controllers designed for PC should work with the Rsspberry Pi.
Yeah ive got USB game controllers, maybe ill stick to those whilst waiting to see if the R77 gets fixed or the FB9 is worth buying later in the year.
-
Shame those joystick adaptors are so expensive though... any recommendations or do I have to bite the bullet and pay $35 for the 2600 D9?Yes something like that. The advantage of the Pi is that you will get emulation as it was intended. Not modified and limited to fit the requirements of a commercial product - which includes everything from cost-cutting, artificially induced time and schedule constraints, a simplified to the point of being useless user interface, and more.
-
Id really been tempted by this R77, it sounded great and id have preordered it if they shipped to the UK but now im thinking id be better off buying Atari joystick adaptors for my Pi and playing either on that or my 7800.
That said a couple of joystick adaptors isnt far off the price of a R77.

Just need to go to the GitHub repository mentioned, download the tools and run a few batch files when you have the unit connected to your pc via a usb cable capable of data transfer. You need windows to do it.
Only drawback is if the wobbly power lead comes out when you’re playing a game you’ll find you have to copy stuff over again as files invariably get corrupted by a unplanned shutdown.
