Hi guys.I am also after this game. Do either of you have one to sell? Many thanks
-
is it my imagination or is there a lot of classic gaming in Seattle? Wow! Thanks for sharing Lee, really appreciate it!
-
Thanks for the tips Thomas! I'll be sure to amend the information in my review. So the ring does have some effect! Cool!

Ha ha! This is amazing - I was wondering exactly the same thing just yesterday: 'I wonder if there are any unused sprites left over?' Excellent work. This game would have shaken up the 2600 adventure genre if it had seen a release in my opinion: the scope of the game is quite hypnotic for me: always pulling me back to try and find another secret (though of course: there are so few!). Nice work again TJ- if you find anything else: be sure to share! I have recently written my own review (nearly finished) at http://prawnstarproductions.com/articles/LOTR

wow! i remember this! Can't help I'm afraid - but what a blast from the past! Please pm / post here if you find it, thanks!

Hi NESMan- welcome to the boards! Thanks very much for posting this - I'll look forward to trying it
-
thanks for the detailed explanation Michael. I am even more intrigued. I'm going to have to revisit these games: sounds like Earth is the best place to start!
-
lovely! How interesting! I have to ask Mike - if you're reading this - how exactly did you play through the other SwordQuest games? I have myself tried playing them (only via roms & emulators - I was a little too young at the time) and really couldn't get off the ground. So- was it pretty much trial and error all the way through, placing objects randomly as you went? Or was there a little more reason than this interview suggest you adopted for the competition version? Thanks!
-
great to see handy's back! one of my absolute faves when i first got into the whole emulation scene. amazing
-
as ever stephena - your work is appreciated! Alpha Beam working is the highlight of this release for me. thank you!

hehe ... Foxsolo2000: international man of mystery! On a side note- there are few better examples of the 2600's staying power than to think SQ hit the stores while the SNES' zelda 3 was well into development. Quite the run that system had.

Well... at the risk of sounding like like I'm signing up to a cult here: RT converted me too. After reading this post I went away and dedicated some serious time to the manual & RT's tips section (priceless!) I can't help but think if the following entrees were included in the manual, more people would 'get' this game: - press button while falling to hover (and escape pits quicker) - hitting the bottom with a bump costs life! - press button in '?' zone to scan that area for phone pieces (I'm not convinced this is ever made clear in the booklet- it implies there is always something nearby when you see this symbol) And the only really unfair bits for me are: - random appearences of agent & scientist - can be hard to exit pits even when obeying the 'immediately press left/right' rule. - falling down pits which are at the edge of screens So yeah- I would go so far as to describe this as a top 20 game for me now. I strongly suspect that over half the ET bashers wouldn't even know that this game fits into the Raiders/Adventure/dragonstomper type of game. Are the locations of items in this game randomized each round right? Nut do the phone pieces go back to theplaces you originally collected them from once they are stolen?

great work steph! Hugely appreciate your efforts!

Hi rxd. Please don't take this as rude- but unless you explicitely state that you're not after a roms install as well. you are unlikely to get much support here. With that in mind - I advice you to check out mameworld.net - they have many adverts on mame cabs (a good starting point) - and if you live stateside, some will deliver & build. Regards
-
Wow! What a topic starter! I love emulation- there I said it. Mame is the flagship of the movement, and I am 100% in favour. I'm sick of people slating emulation-TOO THE BACK TEETH!!... I've been through the space invaders, 2600, nes thing as it happened- front row center- and remember crying when the NES went ot of production... Like the rest of you- I'm sure- I am passionate about games. Sometimes I wonder if anyone really understands how important an artform gaming is, and there is not a shadow of doubt IMHO that emulation is absolutely vital to the preservation of my childhood. Emulation is far FAR FAR closer to it's namesake then people have EVER given it credit for!! More of us should stand up man

Hi Steph- sorry I'm a little late to the show Hope you're well! I have made detailed bug reports on: - Ski Hunt (PAL): the mountains in the background are incorrectly drawn; they are slightly garbled - Bobby Geht Nach House (PAL): The character sometimes dies instantly on reset. Again- I've made detailed reports on these bugs (in this forum), and don't really have time to dig out the links. But if no one else has either- I'll try and do so later. I believe Steph- that you have personally witnessed both these bugs after me having brought them to your attention? Really must fly- but thank you for your continued support of 2600 emulation! EDIT: The link with info on the pal games: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...=78205&st=0

Interesting choices there- do you not think Robot Tank was a little too similar to battlezone? Or was the conditions change enough to make it a real stand-alone original? Also- I didn't know Enduro was a 2600 original. Interesting. Thanks for contributing
-
Thanks a load for the contributions guys! I've found a few real gems due to your kind submissions- such as Fathom. I'd never even heard of this cart before, yet it's quite ahead of it's time. Please keep any further submissions arcade/computer port free thanks a lot!

Yeah I had a 2600 as as kid, but i lived in Germany and didn't get the same selection as games as most parts of the world. I did have Dark Chambers, megamania, Solaris, but could never put them in the same bracket as Adventure, pitfall, (personally). They came out pretty late in the 2600's life and- while they were great technical accomplishments for the system- they were out-dated before they were released. Were pitfall, hero, kaboom, river raid released originally on the 2600?

Hi all! I haven't posted in ages, but have been following the forums closely for some time. I know a lot of 'top x' lists get started around here, but I think this one might attract some interest... I was reading an article in Edge recently in which it was stated that Yar's Revenge was the best selling ORIGINAL a2600 game ever released for the system. It occured to me that most best-of 2600 lists consist mainly of arcade ports, so I am asking you to post your top 5/10 list of original 2600 games. I am a great believer that a classic system is only as good as it's original titles, and that time (and the advent of emulation) will eventually forget the inferior ports. Well... I kind of believe that! So anyway- all contributions are very welcome, as I am still finalizing my own list. Currently I have Pitfall, Adventure, Yar's Revenge. I am a great believer in original games, and sequels are permitted if significantly different enough. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Thank you Rom Hunter! I thought you might be the man to help!

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a database of 2600 games listing the year (and preferably month) of release of 2600 games. Unfortunately the Atariage database does not allow sorting by year, and the 'Year released' field seems only to contain 'n/a' across the board. I will be looking for this information for all other classic systems as well (console & computer) so please let me know if you can direct me to such lists. Many thanks.

Well done stephena! This looks like a great release and I'm looking forward to checking it out! BTW- any luck figuring out the random death bug in 'Bobby geht Nach Hause'? Thanks!
