  1. Yes, nothing can beat Kung Food when you need to relax after an hard day of work! ? More seriously though, I was very sad that the gameplay wasn't better on Kung Food, as I liked the concept and the graphics. But yes, sadly it's not that fun to beat those vegetables up! Gustavo, all your games choices are very good and I also recommend you to look a BattleWheels, Gates of Zendocon and California Games. Shangai is great too if you're into puzzle games. And of course you should try Zaku and all the recent homebrew releases if you can
  2. Woaw, I love this updated version, it's easier to read and it has new unique info! (is it mandatory to include the "silly" word in a silly venture submission? ;)) Fadest, I hadn't realized that you released 6 new Lynx Games this year, that's quite an achievement! And special congrats for the boxed release with Der Luchs! It would be a world record I guess, if Nop90 didn't release 8 games on his own ;). I agree with karri, it may be that 2019 is actually a bigger year than most the commercial life years of the Lynx!
  3. Thanks again for all your hard work! I think it would be cool to have an email to know which prize we will get :)!
  4. Woaw, that's a very cool poster ! 2019 was indeed a great year for the Lynx, I discovered some projects on your poster (those AC games, but other games too like Griel's Quest!). There's a 80% chance that I'll be able to submit something to the SillyVenture too, although it will a be a very small game (smaller than Growing Ties), but I hope people will enjoy it anyway! It's cool to see that so many people will make an entry - with the two competitions combined, we'll get more than 20 new lynx games in total, that's awesome. And Nop90, I also wonder how you manage to make so many stuffs, you are incredible! Because the poster doesn't even mention your ComLynx Experiment (with modified Handy) or your upcoming Atari 2600 emulator :). HyperDrive Odyssey looks like a really cool game! It has a "Out There" feeling. It's sad that the original author didn't approve it, but don't you think you could rework it into a totally original game with new graphics and necessary changes to the story or mechanics? I mean, video games history is full of similar examples, like Donkey Kong that was a Popeye game originally but they didn't get the license in the end so they designed original characters. Anyway, thanks a lot Fadest for the poster. You should send it to Igor too, I think he'll be happy to share it on AtariGamer. P.S.: It's Dr. Ludos and not Dr. Ludo (but honestly, it's not an issue)
  5. Hi everyone! Just a reminder that the preorder period will close around November 15th, so if you want to grab a physical copy, now is your chance: http://cotegamers.com/shop/en/genesis-mega-drive/43-test.html Indeed, the sales numbers are very low, so it's unlikely that there will be any extra copy available for sale after the preorder period, nor another run in the future. So even if it wasn't the plan, it seems that it'll become a "limited edition" after all! ?
  6. Woaw, I love all these version (with a preference for the GB and Lynx ones, but that's a matter of personal taste!) That is quite an ambitious and long term project, but I'm eager to see the first version coming!
  7. Thanks for the all the details, I wasn't aware of that! As long my Lynx II keeps working, I'd like to keep it with the original screen to have a "more authentic experience", but I've been curious about the McWill too as the feedback is very positive and the before/after picture are really tempting. Of course, as an homebrew dev, the best solution would be to have at least two Lynxes to have both kind of screens (so maybe, someday...)
  8. Good to know - I only have one original Lynx II but it's still working great :). Out of curiosity, what are the advantages of the original screen over the McWill mod?
  9. Cool, I'm glad people enjoyed Growing Ties! Thanks again a lot Karri for doing a "world tour" of the Atari Gamer competition games! I hope you also sold plenty of On Duty (after all the box has Jaguar eyes on it, so the eJagFest is the perfect venue to sell it! ;)).
  10. I was very shocked at the sad (and abrupt) fate of NintendoAge too :(. I'll miss this place. Hopefully, Video Game Sage is a very promising replacement, with a broader scope than before! The new forum tool they use is the same as AtariAge's, which is a good sign!
  11. I'd be happy to help you find a name
  12. I don't think you can call your code "crappy", on the contrary, you are an excellent coder! I mean it it wasn't for you and Karri creating and sharing a CC65 template, I would have never been able to make an Lynx game! And without you, my game wouldn't be able to use SDcard and EEPROM save, because frankly, I don't have the skills to write such complex hardware related code! Regarding Nutmeg, it is a technical masterpiece on the Lynx, and it shows (loads of moving objects, loads of color, sound samples!). And overall the game is great. But yes, the game is also very challenging :). I don't know if you are going to update it and push it onto a cart release (I think you should!). If you do, maybe you should try to ease down the difficulty on the first couple of levels (for example don't make more than 1 pit that you can fall in in the first levels, or less moving obstacles at the same time, stuffs like that), so people have more time to discover and learn how to play the game before hitting the first difficulty spike. I think that could increase the number of player that play the game longer.
  13. If manage to find some free time before the deadline, I'd really want to make a game for your compo, as the announcement video is very motivational (congrats of the guest announcer!).
  14. Is Growing Ties one for the problematic entries? It does use the SD card save functionality, and I used Nop90's code for that as my game is based on Karri/Nop90 CC65 template.
  15. Thanks a lot Karri for demo other's people game, including mine, during the compo! Although simple / one button games perform better at shows, it doesn't mean we should forget more complex games! I mean, when you are playing at home with a couple of hours at your disposal, you can dig in longer game, while during a show you don't have time to complete a level before "zapping" to another booth. That being said, huge congratulations to the Assembloids team as the game is really to pick up, but fun to play in longer sessions too
  16. What an awesome event it was! Congrats on the winners, and on everyone for the entries. I'm really thankful to Igor, all the sponsor & judge, and the wonderful Lynx community for such a wonderful time! I've been wanting to jump into Lynx development for years, and this event was the required motivational boost I needed to finally start! I'm very pleased by the great feedback received on Growing Ties, and I'm ultra happy that it managed to rank #3! I'll try to make a cart release of the game too, in 2020 if everything goes well . Regarding the competition itself, here's my feedback: *The Good* Everything, and I mean it: - The event was "cool" (friendly community, etc.) but at the same time very well organized and structured. There was sponsors, a scorecard for the jury to use, regular updates, a ROM package for everyone to try the game, the ability for everyone to leave feedback on a AA Club and on Atari Gamer website... This is honestly the most professionally run "programing compo" I've participated in. - The prize pool was wonderful, and the surprise announcement of it being doubled was a real motivational factor to attract more entries I think :). - The time period (summer) was great, as we could use the summer vacation time to do real progress on entries. - Last but not least, the resulting entries are very diverse and interesting to play! *The Bad* Nothing I can really think of. *Improvement* Three random ideas: 1) To help the participants who want to expand their games into a full release, maybe have the judges make some detailed feedback / comments on the entries at the end of the compo? It doesn't have to be public or even systematic (to avoid asking too much work on judges). But if some judges had ideas or suggestions on how to make the games better that could be helpful I think, as they have all spent quite some time playing them. I know Igor have already made such comments on AtariGamer, and I thank you for that. But maybe the other judges would have comments to share too? 2) I don't know if it could be technically feasible, but wouldn't it be cool to have a "Competition Cart" with all the entries on it? Something similar to what the NESdev compo does for example (they do enforce some technical limitations on the rom sizes though). On the other hand, that could be detrimental to the game quality, as I don't think you could "multi-cart" large games like On Duty, YXNA or Lynx Quest. 3) Maybe have a "tool" category alongside the game category. I mean, many people on the community are doing awesome stuffs to help us make Lynx games, from Karri's version of CC65, Karri/Nop90 game template, Nop90 Comlynx code with modified Handy, audio tools like Chipper and Handymusic, Igor's palette generator, and of course all the hardware tools (FlashCart, Rewritable Carts, etc.)! I don't know how exactly, but if a competition could attract and reward such projects in some way that would be cool too. Anyway, you can count on me for the next edition, I'd be very happy to participate!
  17. Hi everyone, To celebrate GameBoy's 30th birthday, I made a new Game Boy game titled "DMG Deals Damage" You play as a Game Boy who must smash other mobile devices who stole her birthday cake! It's a kind of action-roguelite game with 30 rooms to fight through, including 4 bosses to defeat. The game is playable online for free here (with ROM and manual download): https://drludos.itch.io/dmg-deals-damage It’s also available on cartridge if you want to play it on a real Game Boy: https://catskullgames.com/dmg-deals-damage I hope you’ll enjoy it!
  18. Woaw, A Nop90 & Marss collab' for the SillyVenture? I'm eager to play this! My musical skills are "null" sadly, but I really hope you find a musician. Did you ask @miker? He did a wonderful job on Lynx Quest!
  19. Hi Everyone, Whenever I complete a project, I like to write "post-mortem" / personal feedback articles about them. As my 3 Mega Drive / Genesis games are now available on cartridge, I wrote down a detailed feedback of my experience about making games on this wonderful console with modern tools. You can read it here: https://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/DoctorLudos/20191019/352537/Making_a_SEGA_Mega_Drive__Genesis_game_in_2019.php I hope you'll enjoy it, and ask me any question you have!
  20. The package looks wonderful, congrats Karri!
  21. The handwritten RJ Mical word on the back is very cool, congrats on such a cool prize (again!)
  22. Hi everyone, I'm the creator of these three games, and Tanuki here is the publisher! You may remember "30 Years of Nintendon't" as it was released for free online last year to celebrate the 30th birthday of the Genesis / Mega Drive. It took more than a year to finally have the game available on cartridge, but you'll also get new new fun arcade games as a bonus! I really hope you enjoy this physical release and the three games I made.
  23. Thanks a lot for the information, that's very interesting! Atari 8-bit seems like a good candidate then, so does the GBA! I don't have an Atari 8 bit machine (yet!), but I do have a GBA + Everdrive ;).
