i am currently trying to make a text adventure version of Bioshock. unfortunately, using Inkey$ or the IF command leads to a hopeless loop.
example:
26 input a$
27 let a$=inkey$
28 if a$="" then goto 31 (or if inkey$="" then goto 31
31 print "you step out of the Bathysphere and take the radio"
29 if inkey$<>="" (or if a$<>="") then goto 32
32 print "the splicer tears out your stomach":end
simple right? no. upon inputting an answer, the game loops uselessly. the second option is all that can be selected with the first nowhere to be seen.
please help

Thanks Trinity! I've only had the system for about a week and it's so nice to have an NES again. My old toaster died on me 3 or 4 years ago and I never got another until I saw this one in a local game store last week. They wanted $90 for it but it was in really minty condition and came with a new 72-pin connector installed as well as the equally nice condition gray Zapper, original controller with brand new button contacts inside, a mint copy of Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt, OEM power supply, and composite cables.
I still thought the price was a little steep though so they offered it to me for $80, which resulted in me bringing it home along with a copy of Rad Racer and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Since then I've also picked up Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Hogan's Alley, and Operation Wolf. The next games I want to get for it are Freedom Force and Mechanized Attack, but those will have to wait until some of my stuff in the Marketplace sells.
In any case, it's awesome to have a properly working NES again; especially one that's so pretty to look at. There are some big scratches on the bottom of the controller but I don't really mind since the rest of the package is super nice looking.

lucky! i'm so jealous

i am soothing my woes with a Madhouse run on re7 (crazy i know, but at least it's something i'm used too) tried Mega man 2 earlier and i want to find the developer for fire man's stage and...forget it, probably dead already.

ok, my bad. but as far as graphics and sound access, the Vic 20 stunk. i can understand for beginning to program though
-
Maybe it's me, but the Vic 20 is less of a "Wonder Computer" and more of a stop gap. Poke this, Poke that, no direct access to graphics or sound, The character set is woefully small and cramped and it didn't have a built in monitor.
while i can understand some frugal people wanting to buy one to save money in 1980, you have to understand that a coco could give you graphics and sound at a
better price, the TI-99/4A allows for easier editing and more ram (around 64k i think) or if you are in britain, the ZX Spectrum or BBC Micro is a much better choice.
my opinion, however most assemblers are easy to use, but 3.5k ram is ridiculous

The problem with Nintendo's "Copyright claims" is that it's bullshit. they don't own Atari or Sega or anbody else.i could understand if Emuparadise hosted ONLY nintendo, but they don't. No reasonable person would support them after this move. I play emulated systems because Ebay's prices are absurd.
a typical ZX Spectrum 128 is over $600! seriously, if i can't download a rom of a game or system that is no longer in circulation (Most of the Spectrum Library, Nintendo's own super mario bros nes trilogy)
then i ought to be able to do so. They're being dicks. they were in the 90's and they are now

First goes the joystick, then the prostate, the the balls drop to knee level... Terminal old age...
that was hilarious.
mom on the other hand is breaking down, like a 1929 auburn -
I remember being able to make it through Track and field 1's fencing level no problem. Now, i can't even do a run properly without dying. Tetris is the exception. Tmnt, Friday the 13th, Star wars, the game doesn't matter, i can't beat it. I was 10 when i picked up an nes controller. any ideas? i am a 25 year old male who is deathly afraid of being labeled "old" or "casual"

now broadcasting Alien isolation, look for ss252 on twitch.com
-
How do you stream on OBS? I have it all set up with Twitch, but I can't get the game to go live. Do you run Twitch and OBS at the same time? Also, if you follow me, I'll follow you.
for emulated runs yes

medal of honor 2010 comes with frontline

My twitch name is EpicMeatloaf, but i seem to have an issue. when i stream with OBS, the games lag and don't run correctly. any ideas?

two questions:
#1 in the dinner scene, what is jack doing with the knife and how is ethan able to speak afterwards (Mold did it is not acceptable)
#2 would ethan have been able to actually eat the mold, or would it kill him? would this have made a difference game play wise (would jack be non hostile)

Since FPS are fun to pick on, I always enjoy the fact some games allow multiple head shots to drop a guy, but one to you and it's done as it should be. Or the classic Medal of Honor (and friends) of unload an entire mag clip into a body to drop the dude wearing nothing but a shirt (no armor) yet he returns the favor and you're in trouble far sooner which seemed in both cases hypocritical for false difficulty challenge.
you think that's bad, try rainbow six 3 for xbox

inkey$ command is pissing me off
