Fixed it and reposted the Stella profile. Thanks for looking into this. Voch

Sorry 'bout raising a stink. I guess I'll do my Windows work with the command-line Stella first. The updated Stella profile file has been posted. Thanks. Voch

I've added these to my Stella profile but can't get Battlezone TC to work with any "known" Cartridge.Type value. Does the new Battlezone TC use illegal opcodes that Stella can't handle? The currently posted Stella profile includes the two new games but the Battlezone TC entry's Cartridge.Type value is that of regular Battlezone until I figure out the settings. Voch

I've updated my Stella profile file with the new Thomas Jentzsch hacks. Go get it. Updates and news about my Stella profile file are available on my Atari page. Let me know if there are any problems. I'm trying to keep up with all of Atari Age's new ROM discoveries. Really I am. My pesky full-time job keeps getting in the way. I still need to go through all the games again and fix some of their Display.Height and other values. I just built myself a PC (I've had all Macs for a while) so maybe I'll get to it. quote: Originally posted by Adrian: As for the lastest Stella 1.1.2, it quits the moment I try to open a ROM image. Firstly, if you're using the large Stella profile file posted on my Stella profile page you need to increase the Stella application's memory allocation by a few megabytes (I have mine set to 10MB but that's probably overkill). Does anything else bomb repeatedly on this machine? I'd try either redownloading the Stella application or running Norton Disk Doctor or equivalent to make sure the Stella application is OK. If you still have problems and would like to take this offline my e-mail is in the header of the Stella profile file. I own several Macs and play Stella on them all the time. Voch

quote: Originally posted by Adrian M: I downloaded the the lotr_stella.pro append file, unzipped and renamed to "stella.pro" and then dropped this into my Stella folder. Upon bootup, LOTR NOW WORKS PROPERLY! Well, if you want settings for all known Atari 2600 ROM dumps feel free to download my Stella profile file. It'll include the settings for Lord of the Rings and about 1600 other games. I try to keep it up to date (just added four new entries this morning). Voch [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: Voch ]

quote: Originally posted by Adrian M: I downloaded the latest Stella.pro append file and autotyper program and have followed the directions, but all I get when I start the game is a black screen and some strange noises. Sounds like the profile is not being read properly. You have to name the append file "stella.pro" (without the quotes) or append it to an existing "stella.pro". The stella profile information is simply text. If you want the entire latest Stella profile file it's available on my Stella profile page. It now includes the Lord of the Rings information. Unzip the stella.pro file from the stella.zip file linked on the page into the same folder with the Stella application. Don't forget to increase the Stella application's memory allocation by a few megabytes (use the Mac's Get Info command on the Stella application) when using the "big" Stella profile file (the zipped one on my page). Everything should work in Mac Stella (except for Pitfall II: Lost Caverns and some games with strange controllers like Mind Link, etc.) if you (1) have the latest Stella profile file unzipped into the same directory as the Stella application and (2) have increased the Stella application's memory allocation a few megabytes (to allow for the large Stella profile file). Mac Stella takes a few seconds to load each ROM as it parses the Stella profile file but games do work. Voch [ 12-17-2001: Message edited by: Voch ]

The Stella profile file that I maintain has the new Lord of the Rings settings that AtariAge suggested in it now. Is there someone at AtariAge who could send me an e-mail when prototypes are found? The e-mail is in the header of the profile file. I could update the profile file a little faster if notified. I check AtariAge and Retrogames and the like at least once a day so it's no real big deal but there seems to be quite a demand for this particular game. I've been busy Christmas shopping all morning and missed the news on this (I noticed it on Slashdot of all places...I usually check AtariAge first). Thanks to AtariAge for the profile information. Its OK but there are problems on some carts - most notably Custers revenge...which I was only...er...testing...you know,...for...er....research and that. Any specific problems? I tweaked that one in the Stella profile file to make it more screen-centered but otherwise it just worked. I'm pretty sure the game uses a joystick controller (insert gross joke here) so no other tweaking (insert another joke here) was needed. Voch [ 11-29-2001: Message edited by: Voch ]

For those who use Stella: I've finally gotten around to posting a dedicated Stella profile page. It has some information on the use of the Stella profile file, a note for Mac users about increasing the memory allocation to the Stella program when using the profile file, and history information. I'll update it when I update the Stella profile file so you folks know what's going on with it. Voch

quote: Originally posted by Eckhard Stolberg: I'm sure Voch will release a new version of the inofficial STELLA.PRO file shortly, which contains the proper checksum for this game as well. It's updated. For Parker Bros games that don't work, I usually try Cartridge.Type of E0 first... Download the new Stella profile file here. If you've got your own stella.pro profile file, the checksum line for Star Wars: Ewok Adventure (Parker Bros) (PAL) is: "Cartridge.MD5" "6dfad2dd2c7c16ac0fa257b6ce0be2f0" I've removed the Cartridge.MacName field from the stella.pro as I just used it to rename my personal ROM collection to Mac friendly names (31 characters or less) but have stopped doing that for now (I just maintain a ZIP file for myself). No Stella versions actually use that field. I think I have all the recent stuff that Atari Age has pointed to added to the current stella.pro (the entry before this addition is the Atari Computer Chess prototype). If not, drop me a line (my e-mail is in the stella.pro header). Voch [ 10-30-2001: Message edited by: Voch ]

Matthias The extras that are not currently recognized by Good2600 are six pre-release versions of a game called SCSIcide (I forget where I got it...do a 'Net search) and Elevator Action (which you can get here). You aren't missing much, really. The current stella.pro is missing the following games. I'm going to get 'em sometime soon so as to add them. Artillery Duel (1983) (Xonox) (PAL) [!] Challenge of...NEXAR (1982) (Spectravideo) (PAL) [p1][!] Crackpots (Activision) (PAL) [p1][!] Demon Attack (Imagic) (PAL) [p1][!] Frostbite (Activision) (PAL) [p1][!] Jawbreaker (Tigervision) (PAL) [p1][!] Planet Patrol (1982) (Spectravision) (PAL) [p1][!] Sky Diver (1978) (Atari) (PAL) [!] Voch

Speak of the Devil... I've posted my latest (zipped) Stella Profile File for all you Stella users. It identifies 1619 Stella ROMs and exactly matches the naming convention of Cowering's Good2600 0.998. Unzip the STELLA.PRO file from the ZIP file and put it in the directory with your Stella executable. I haven't worked on it since June but got my programming muse last night and fixed my stella.pro maintainence script. I think I'm missing one or two ROMs but have a few that Cowering is missing (SCSIcide prototypes and Elevator Action). Cowering will be informed. I may tweak it a bit later as I just added the game names and not any game-specific settings (except for adding Elevator Action's F8SC Cartridge.Type value because there seems to be demand for that setting right now). Enjoy. Voch [ 08-20-2001: Message edited by: Voch ]

I've finally synched the STELLA.PRO profile file for the Stella emulators with the ROM names specified by Cowering's Good2600 utility (save one missing ROM). It's now available for download. Plop it into your Stella directory/folder. It works really well with StellaX for Windows. Voch
