BackBit cartridge on the Intellivision
evietron replied to evietron's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Games work fine aside from the voice after "Mattel Electronics presents". I'm on a Intellivision II. -
BackBit cartridge on the Intellivision
evietron replied to evietron's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
My IntelliVoice arrived today. I've confirmed that there is indeed a problem in getting voice data out of the cartridge. I haven't figured out the issue yet. For example with B-17 Bomber, I'm serving the cartridge data at 5000-6FFF and D000-DFFF but it just says "Mattel Electronics presents". I've opened up a B-17 cartridge and it's just ROMs so you would think it would just work. -

For BIN+CFG support, you first have to convert it to a ROM with the BIN2ROM tool. I added Intellicart/CC3 bank switching support. I'm expecting a voice module to arrive tomorrow, then I'll see about making voice carts work! If there is a cart you want supported that is not already, please send me the BIN/ROM files, and I will try to get it to work. The best place to request features is on the BackBit Forum. -
I don't have a Voice module, so I can't test it. I will need to change a few things as the menu uses the external RAM signal. Other than that, the microcontroller in BackBit should be strong enough to drive the outputs, but I wouldn't know for sure without testing it.

I just completed work on an Odyssey² adapter for my BackBit cartridge. Thanks to Steve for donating the machine. Loads games from MicroSD, with a full-screen menu! Supports standard 2K/4K/8K carts with the possibility of expanding that to support banking. Cartridge is still on backorder for the next 2 months.

BackBit cartridge on the Intellivision
evietron replied to evietron's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Do those titles require just bank switching and/or ROM, or do they use FLASH, random number generation, and multiply/divide acceleration? In general, I'm not inclined to support "acceleration" features, as those don't maintain the spirit of classic gaming. But bank switching ROMs were common back in the day, and make sense to support. -
BackBit cartridge on the Intellivision

Is this for new development or to support existing games? How many current titles use JLP? -
For those who don't already know, my BackBit Pro cartridge will play games from a MicroSD card on over a dozen vintage machines. A number of people reached out to me recently asking if I could add support for the Intellivision, so... I bought & restored an Intellivision II, learned a little CP1610, read up on decles and made it happen. You can load ROM and BIN files from the built-in file browser. To use BIN+CFG, put them through a tool like BIN2ROM. It will be possible to add support for titles that need RAM or bank switching (with a firmware update). You can place a pre-order at store.backbit.io if you are so inclined. They would be available right now if it wasn't for the chip shortage. Although, if you already have a BackBit Pro cartridge, all you have to do is order the adapter.

Modify QI console for finalgrom99 use
evietron replied to arcadeshopper's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
From the pictures I can see, the GROM buster is just a PEB, no slot for a cartridge. Requests from >6000 to >7fff (for game ROMs) as well as >980x (for GROMs) cannot be supplied from the side port as the bus transceiver drives the data bus when ~GBEN (GROM bus enable) is active even if nothing is using it. -

It would be possible to remap games that don't use GROM from >6000 to >4000 to make them run from the sideport. I wonder if anyone tried to recreate the style of carts like Miner 2049er or Espial but also expand them to other games. -
I have one of these. I ripped it and it turns out that it's Adventure Creator, although the binary is slightly different than the common one floating around. Maybe a PAL version? Adventure.rom

I hooked up the Ambery converter and it works flawlessly. No more cheap no-name boxes for me! Thanks Mr Robot, that was an awesome suggestion. I'm going to mount an S-video connector where the RF modulator is (I've already destroyed the thing), and then re-hook up the composite so I can use that as an option. Up until now I've been using a rewired composite RCA as luma and RF RCA as chroma. DrVenkman, I will try some test patterns once I get an SD solution on my machine. For now I am just using Missilie Command and the built in test.
-
Thanks Mr Robot, I think I'll try the Ambery converter. From the scope, the signal looks great. Up until now this converter box (Tendak) has worked on everything.

I hooked up a scope and discovered the "color burst" signal. That helped me configure the right values for R55 and the color pot. The inductor seems to be filtering AC voltage properly. So that pretty much leaves my converter box as the suspect. That, or the luma circuit is somehow out of phase with the chroma. Has anyone had good luck with RetroTink2X with an XE machine?
-
Unfortunately I don't own a CRT TV. I use a converter box that goes from composite or S-Video to HDMI. Is there a good guide for studying a chroma signal through a scope?
-
Attached schematics. I replaced the Q5 transistor and now get slightly more color bleed but it still is not stable at all. I just get flashes of various color on the screen. I'm picking up the color signal from the output of Q5 for the chroma output. I already replaced R55. So basically the only thing left is L5 and then the 5V power supply. One other question .. the video upgrade mentioned a tantalum capacitor between R78 and R79. I am using an electrolytic instead. Could this cause problems? (Although that is on the luma circuit which seems fine)... XEGS System Schematics.pdf

I got a pristine like-new XEGS off eBay, and the color doesn't work. I tried all kinds of adapters and no color. Black & white works fine. I replaced the trim pot, and still no go. I went through a "Super Video" mod which includes fixes to luma, chroma, and a s-video mod, and while the picture quality is fine, there is still no color. One thing I did notice, since adding the s-video mod, is that if I rotate the trim pot quickly, I'll get a flash of color on the screen occasionally, but it rarely stays for long. If I swap the pins on the s-video adapter, putting luma into chroma and vice versa, I see the "color" screen in black and white but the vertical sync is terrible. Actually, when I remove the 75 ohm resistor for the s-video chrominance, it becomes more stable, but still has an offset. SEE VIDEO OF SYMPTOMS HERE... Any help would be appreciated. I really want to see color on this Atari!

Commodore 64 Moondust Cartridge no sound?

Commodore 64 Moondust Cartridge no sound?
evietron replied to Noah98's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
There is a bug in the game which causes it to not have sound in certain cases on NTSC machines. My guess is that if you pop it up on a first revision C64 with 5 pin video that it will work properly.
