  1. Does anyone know anything about the resistor/transistor I've marked on the picture. You can find it on the regular pal motherboard, but not on the French version. I'm still wondering how to make the composite mod, I just have to know what parts I have to buy. I'm starting to think that maybe I should just buy a 2600 Junior to play my Pal 2600 games, and play ntsc 7800 and 2600 on my ntsc 7800 because the French 7800 is either broken or just bad. Too bad for me, because the French 7800 wasn't cheap. Too bad about the really bad picture quality. I thought that having a scart version would have been the best version out there
  2. Does anyone know what resistors I need to these areas which I have marked? The French 7800 does not have them. I've removed some resistors needed to the composite mod. When compared to the regular pal version, it seems to have resistors in places which the French does not have. I guess I need them to complete the composite mod, because otherwise the picture is black and white. It might also affect the picture quality. The other picture is from one of the mod tutorials I've found via Internet.
  3. Ok, good to know! I didn't know about that fact it isn't secam. The pictures aren't that great, but I'll take a better shot later. I've removed the rgb daughterboard and some of the resistors that have to be removed for the composite mod. The thing is that I need to know which resistors I have attach to the motherboard, as some of them are missing in the French version.
  4. Thanks for the advice, but in this case the picture quality from the rgb board (or the console itself) gives a really bad picture quality via rgb and via composite (I've started to mod the console to composite, but it only shows black and white colors). I mentioned in a new post that I suspect that I need to remove and insert some resistors, so I might get colors, and to get rid of the vertical lines. I'm also suspecting that the secam 7800 might also be broken.
  5. The cable is original and I've started to mod the console to composite and it shows the same problems as via scart. The problem with the mod at the moment is that the motherboard is different than the pal version, so I only managed to get black and white picture out of the motherboard. I suspect that I need to take out and add some resistors to the motherboard because of the differences between pal and secam versions.
  6. Hi! I recently bought French 7800. Unfortunately the picture quality via scart is really bad. While playing 2600 games there is ugly thick "scanlines" and 7800 don't look good either. It seems my that the rgb board is either broken or just bad. I attached a photo where you can see the horizontal lines. So I'm planning to mod the console, so I can use composite. The problem is that the motherboard is slightly different than pal version. Is there a way to mod the French version to composite?
  7. Here you can see the broken pal antic chip.
  8. Update: I bought a new pal antic chip, and it fixed all the problems!
  9. It seems that PSU isn't the issue here. I tried 5V 3A PSU and I had the same problems. So it must be the ram or antic, or both I wonder is there a possibility to use ntsc antic in a pal 130xe, or do the frame timings go haywire etc? Another question: is there a ram testing program which can be used with AtariMax?
  10. The first picture, the made in China PSU was bought from a online store which sells retrogaming stuff. I found out that while using this PSU, the video had more problems than the other one. The other picture, which has voltage options from 3-12V fares much better than the "made for 130XE". If I understood correctly, the PSU has to be at least 3A to work properly? The first one is 2A and the other is 2,25A.
  11. The thing is that I don't have original PSU, and I bought new one from France. That PSU was really bad. I noticed that with that PSU did more glitches than the other generic PSU I'm using right now. There could be a possibility that the current PSU might also be the problem. I'll take pictures of both them and attach them here later.
  12. Fortunately my 130XE is the one where Antic is socketed. I have to try to use the cold spray method. It's a pity that I'm having problems with the 130xe. I just got into 8-bit Atari computers, and they are hard to come by here in Finland where C64 was more popular.
  13. Ram chips are made by Mostek, fortunately. I've tried to load a couple memory programs, but at my current knowledge I don't know how to run them with Atarimax. For example I've tried to run MEMRAMCHECKTEST.atr mentioned here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/283216-ram-test-programmes/ ...but the program boots up to MyDos. I left the computer run Pole Position for 4 hours as a test, and the video garbage was totally random. At the moment I'm suspecting that the antic chip is malfunctioning.
  14. Thanks for your responses. I'll have to try the methods you have mentioned. The screen garbage appears randomly. Pole Position for example is totally playable, but after a while the screen starts glitching.
  15. I recently bought a pal version of Atari 130xe and I'm having problems with the picture quality. First 10-30 minutes the 130xe works fine, but suddenly the screen gets filled with video garbage. Interestingly enough the sprites are not affected as seen in the attached picture. Do you have any thoughts? Is this a Antic chip problem? System checkup did not show any problems with ram or rom.
