  1. I can see you all love that idea of a custom cart shape ? Like I said it could be a dumb idea but I would at least like to find out for sure, and it would be shaped to fit within the dimensions of a regular cart shell (and would require a custom PCB but let's not get carried away). The PCBWay stuff is not what I had in mind but it's still interesting to see. As for saving, it's obviously not standard (and would take too much code space) so I'll just keep the cheat code.
  2. Seems flashable, so I guess it's because it's 16KB and doesn't need logic for bankswitching ?
  3. So does it fit inside a 400/800, or do you leave the cover open ? Do 400/800 owner leave the cover open or is that criminal ? edit: In terms of parts, it seems much simpler, is it because it isn't flashable ?
  4. Before worrying about cart type,.. I should probably figure out if that custom case is a goofy idea or not. Who knows, it may look so bad that it won't be worth the hassle!
  5. Did you make your own design or is it based on one of those mentioned ?
  6. I assume you meant the PCB ? I do mean a modded case but with a smaller size than the regular rectangle shape, the new shape would have to fit inside the regular one, so that would indeed require a modded PCB but it looks like things are pretty packed already... I thought about a LED too but only if it had a meaning and was part of the sticker design! yeah I figured there would be an issue with the 400/800, so a PCB redesign would be needed... The more interesting shapes would be 3C and 4C (but that wouldn't leave much space for the PCB) and I'm not sure they're even doable physically. 6C would probably be the least intrusive one, not as interesting but could be cool with the appropriate sticker
  7. XL packaging used to be ok but the XE stuff didn't age so well, both were definitely past the golden years...
  8. would be nice but requires space for the code... there' ll always be something more important to add than this
  9. I think I forgot "return", probably does the sword strike ? But really, forget keyboard control, it's not fully supported, the only way to do slow steps is to crouch. The key (indeed!) is "emulation": it is a joystick emulation with the PC keyboard, the keyboard keys are sent to the emulator as joystick input that's why it works... for a real Atari that would mean connecting a real keyboard to the joystick port...
  10. so all these chips have the same physical size, no matter what capacity ? it would be cool if the top of the cart could be shaped like one of these (except 6a!) ?
  11. that's slightly confusing... I guess you're saying it's more or less the same up to 512KB then for 1MB you need to have 2 chips which would cost you double, which according to the post that was linked earlier would work out to about $7 or 5.5eur (x2 for 1MB). The game would run in 512KB though so that's not an issue, just trying to understand your post full cart for Cartridge Kit (PCB KIT + Sikor Soft shell): 22,50USD/17,00EUR Carts are expensive! From these pictures, it doesn't look like the PCBs can be shrunk very much (for a custom cart shape) ?
  12. Well I'm not going to hold my breath ? but yeah the perspective may be a little weird which could be due to the scaling to add that 8th pixel for each 7 pixel byte from the A2... I don't recall the C64 version having that issue though. Just a matter of trying I guess... Agreed!
  13. Random question: a 64KB version would require to leave most of the game uncompressed on a cart, which would double the ROM space requirements(512KB). Is ROM cost very different depending on the size ?
  14. Is it a good time to mention that PoP background tileset ??
  15. "discussion" ? In this thread ?? There's about 80 pages from a handful of people rebashing stuff. It may look like a discussion if you skip 9 posts out of 10 ( only slightly exagerating... )
  16. They're still pretty good even if you won't admit it ? I did try to convert some of them to the A8 but there were too many colors per line but yeah a custom conversion for the A8 may have worked better.
  17. Not much of a suggestion but you could use ZX0/ZX5 for compression it should beat deflate in terms of compression ratio (slightly better)/decompression speed(much better)/unpacker code size(smaller and no temp storage required)
  18. Slightly related, there's a C64 demo with pictures of Atari 2600 game box covers: Annoyingly these pictures are quite difficult to convert nicely on the A8!
  19. That is definitely a step in the right direction! Unmissably Atari ? (something grittier may be more fitting) I actually got my "Art of Atari" hardcopy, which DrVenkman mentioned earlier... I'm hoping @superrune would like to get involved in this...
  20. Yes, I foresee another hundred page debate about everybody's own personal preferences ?
