Nice! Even though it's difficult to assess the speech quality because of the Czech language.
How about a downgraded mono version with just 2 channels for music ? Stereo only seems to imply some kind of cheat even though there isn't obviously.
Waiting for that paper too!

Probably that. Has some nice "wide" sound in it.
Is that PWM? has some SID-like qualities.
Great work, mate.
As much as I like the RMT/HiPass filter, I haven't got much to do with it and it's been around for some decades
. Just like you I was surprised that it could be done when I came back to the A8 some years ago and yeah it is PWM.
While we're mentioning the filter, does anyody know why it cancels out sometimes when playing the same frequency on both channels ? it'll play a bunch of notes then the sound will vanish for a while then come back... The way to avoid cancellation seems to shift the 2nd channel's frequency by -1/+1 regularly...

It's a hit and miss with him... but he does produce unusual Pokey sounds (like the sword sound in PoP)

Not sure if you're referring to the RMT filter which produces more advanced sound than the the regular square wave but is pretty basic to use or the track effects which allow for easier effect control than before.

big success with that samurai filtered mix

here's some more squirelling:

So I took MK's 2nd samurai attempt and hit that filter button... not perfect but I do like the filter

Besides bragging with YouTube videos he probably will never release anything (like RMT files), others could make use of.
In this case, given that the tracker's not been released and it's a completely different format, it wouldn't do much good... but beyond that, whatever anybody decides about releasing stuff is their own business...

They are purely 'fixed' dma slots at the moment, which is complicated by antic requesting the dma and gtia reading the bus at the same time! So 5 slots: 4 pms, 4 missiles. The width could definitely have been increased with minimal cost, add 5 more dma slots and then an extra register per PM in GTIA. There could also have trivially been the option to use the extra byte for 4 bit colours instead of wider. Oh and of course could also just clock them slower, so 1x,2x,4x,8x,16x width... (which is what I think you meant re-reading this...)
Yeah I just meant larger scale values, possibly together with 8 players instead of 4 players + 4 missiles. Basically just extend the 4 missiles to regular players (taking 4 dma cycles instead of 1), even with the same color registers... those features might have been a game changer! The PMs could even have been used in a similar fashion as the Snes' windowing layer... Such a disappointment

This is exactly the reason that I only liked your posts and did not comment or anything. But surely I'd be interested in playing around with your new tracker when it comes available. I don't have discord. Perhaps you could do a release? Looking by the examples @tatqoo posted it seems pretty capable already!
You can use the discord web client, so there's no need to install anything (well except MS dot net 6 for running the tracker ), you just need to register an email.
The discord channel is more convenient as I can just post updates there.

I wish there were a full install routine (MSI + needed packages or something) and not only a few lines of coders readme to troubleshoot a not working install. I am user, artist, musican.... but unfortunately not a coder. I'm sorry for needing some help or maybe a full release.
Yeah but as an A8 user I assume you're a tiny bit technically minded

Some MS libs are required, it's unfortunate that MS doesn't seem to be pushing them as regular windows updates ? It used to be the case that software would include necessary libraries to install (like D3D) but that's not the case anymore. That said, it's really easy.
I assume you know how to open a command prompt... all you have to do is copy these 2 lines and wait a few seconds:
Quotewinget install Microsoft.DotNet.AspNetCore.6
winget install Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.6These are official libs downloaded from MS's official site, nothing malicious.
Once that's done you're set!

Wondering if it's possible to extend the HW a little, like removing the PM maximum size check which would allow them to be larger than 4x. Not that I would use it but I'm curious because in theory that should have been really cheap (cost 0 or maybe even cost reduction to the original) and made PM quite useful for coloring large areas.

Tbh, I was a bit wondering why there is not that much feedback here as well when I posted my last video here. A few posts that were joking about the hand of the player's sprite looking like a monkey wrench..
Then I posted the same thing on the FB Atari 8 Bitters group and got 100 likes and 48 highly positive and encouraging comments
Perhaps it's a little different though, how many times did you post about your project on FB ? In the forums we tend to post updates and there's only so many times you can reply with "nice!" comments

Sure, let's open the FP floodgates

Probably worth it’s own forum post for a whole new tracker. I imagine many people missed it.
It's not been released yet, but people have downloaded it from the discord server... I'm guessing they didn't want to say bad things about it because they're an excessively polite bunch
On 3/3/2023 at 8:03 PM, foft said:Though yeah the scene is not that big. I remember spending a long time making 2x and 4x colour clock fpga modes for the a8 fpga core and, to my knowledge, not one person used it. Still was fun/interesting to make.
Super cool project.
Never heard of it indeed... Interesting for sure but I wouldn't use it either!
On 3/3/2023 at 8:03 PM, foft said:Now if it could support pokey voices, ym voices, sid voices and samples it’d be super cool for pokey max! That is an even smaller group though
Same group as your project

The mod could be ported beautifully in the right hands, ears, talent.
404 Atari Scene is not available.
Sure, I wish he'd fix the glitches in the Samurai tune as there's potential but he's moved on already...
He's already found 2 bugs in the tracker too, that's more than pretty much everybody else

In my experience that's the thing with forums these days. You don't reach all the relevant people with something, because of the format.
How many of the more active Pokey musicians are even reading here?
I guess most of them are hanging out in the polish forums or Facebook groups.Well the discord channel hasn't been exactly fruitful either (total feedback so far: zero out of a bunch of downloads)

Very little interest in what?
In this project I mean, a few people have expressed interest in testing it and never provided any feedback... It's a very small pool to begin with and not very active.
It's only thanks to Tatqoo's help that it's become useful.

Too bad there's very little interest. Illustrates that the A8 scene is more of a skeleton...and that a good alternative is to bring content from other platforms!

Nice usage of the portamento effect for this one, that was very smoothly executed.
I have no idea
I just randomly played with the instrument filter until it sounded ok... (the portamento is from the original mod of course)

Quick conversion, mod was provided by @MrFish
It's nothing great, and uses the basic RMT filter (the amazing bit being that I got it to sound ok !)

I think at this point we start making demands regarding what title pic should be included... I think this one is a perfect fit

Edit. Just to clarify there are various different related IK projects. Ik+ has been running for 10+ years and is completely separate from the recent backdrop image tinkering below.
Like I mentioned in the IK thread, one of the folks involved in IK ultimate on the C64 asked if someone was interested in an A8 port but he got no response I guess.
I'd really like to see to new backgrounds on the A8 along with PG's own pictures.

I also tend to think that a vast majority of games that look / run better on the c64 could be done better on the Atari 8bit, but due to the popularity of each machine, the Atari 8bits ended up getting less love, and after-thought ports.
Agreed... There's definitely more work involved for the A8 though because you have to take the software sprite route. I'm sure devs would have made the effort had the A8 outsold the C64 2:1
On 2/11/2023 at 11:49 PM, JagChris said:Back then wasn't the C64/Apple/BBC in the same boat though?
For sure...C64 and BBC are recent though. Doesn't mean their authors goal was to push the machine, that was just my own goal knowing that a straight port was not a problem for the A8 given that the original runs on a 1MHz A2.

New speech synthesis for Atari
in Atari 8-Bit Computers

Why not just use another audio channel for the 2nd singer (but only when both are singing) ?
