  1. Spray some Pledge on the console to give it a nice sheen without the slippery side effects of Armour All. Only side effect is a bit of lemon scent!
  2. Amaaaazeballs! Vectrex has the best homebrew scene, IMO...all new titles and ports from scratch!..but this game will be very tough to program without some helper hardware. This one is definitely an odd choice but I'll take it!
  3. I can't imagine it's going to be easy to find mint version...the Basic manual has his funky silver colour cover that was particularly prone to showing wear of any kind. But the good news is finding good enough copies of the manuals should not be too tough. The tough thing is that the system came with a few single page info sheets, if I recall correctly...one for the Buck Rogers game, at least. And that would be very hard to find in mint condition, I would think. Good luck in any case.
  4. Dark Tower is quite famous among old school board gamers. It's a holy grail for many, in fact...check out the prices for complete sets in ebay, sealed the thing sells for crazy money. But the gameplay is actually nothing too special, even though as a kid back in the 80s it must have blown minds. As mentioned, there is a Vectrex port...but as a theme, it could make a much better game than that. I wish you good luck!
  5. You can make the finest quality buggy whips in the world, but it's unlikely you can support yourself (let alone a family) selling buggy whips.
  6. All I would use the Retron 5 for would be to use it to transfer my saved games while I replace the game pak battery....then transfer back.
  7. When one replaces the drive, does it mean that all the games saves are lost as well? I would assume so but I hope I am wrong.
  8. Without getting longwinded, I will just say this: Toughest is Gaiden 3, easiest is Gaiden 2.
  9. I picked up both Nintendo minis, but am not going to go for this one. The games aren't well rounded enough and don't scratch the itch...which is kinda odd, considering I had MGS back then (if the controllers lack force feedback, the cool fight with Mantis will lose all flavour, lol). I think I was just expecting more...at least the analog sticks. I will reconsider if the hack for roms come along though..there are still some great games that I can fit in there. I was not a fan of FF7 so that one can go. I would keep Tekken, RE and MGS...that's about it. In goes Tenchu, the rest of the RE series, Return Fire...Panzer General...Dino Crisis...maybe some Tomb Raider but not a must. I am surprised with how many driving games I enjoyed on the system but with no analog sticks, no way. Otherwise, in goes the GT series. Hdmi is a big bonus too, but something else holding me back is that I already own most of the PS stuff I'd ever want...even though I play it in my PS2. Lots of Guncon stuff too. I think Sony definitely cheaped out jn the licenses. I mean, not even Parapa made it in. This thing needed more than three or four games out of twenty. If they wanted a Nintendo response from fans, they should have gone all in. I mean, here's the company that destroyed Sega with its sell at a loss console price...and I firmly believe that if it had a truly stellar lineup? It would have blown Nintendo out of the water with this thing. For some reason they just didnt want to. And finally, quality: feel and finish. Let's see if they learned anything from Nintendos minis.
  10. Yeah...not too thrilled with the titles, but it's a tall order because the system had so many iconic games through a six year span. There is no need for early stuff like Toshinden when you have Tekken 3...and the random titles like Mr Driller? Why? But you ain't gonna please everybody, right? I would have liked to see RE2 as well...no reason not to. Let's see if Sony can put out a Nintendo level quality mini system...the controllers will be important. I think they can do it. I wish that Sony put the really stellar games in though, even if it would cost a bit more in licensing. These minis are for the fans, so at least give an impression you care to include the best.
  11. Clean, sure. Bleach? Not with the results I've seen. Believe me, I wish there was a better way. I'm not convinced these bleaches are the way to go, but that's just me.
  12. I only learned today that the Jag has no multicart available...yet. Until that day comes, I guess I will just do without. But even though it's expensive to get individual carts, it's kinda cool that the only way to play these games is via original hardware only. I respect that.
  13. This is just another reason I choose not to retrobrite. Just let the stuff age the way it does...there is no way to really bring it back, at least not to the way it rolled off the assembly line and not permanently.
  14. Does this mean I have to remembr how to "*",8,1 again????
  15. Top Gaming Hat Man is all about creating controversy to increase clicks. He freely admits he does these videos for money. So while I'm sure he's a great guy and all in 'real life', but I sure as hell won't watch any of his videos. There are far better choices to spend your valuable time on. Unless you want to get upset about his inflammatory click bait titled videos, then you deserve what you get. There is no drama unless you so choose to participate in it.
  16. Wow, sorry to hear about that. My two issues over a ten year span was replacement usb board and joysticks that eventually went mushy for my taste. No issue replacements were given and they paid shipping to Canada. It literally could not have been easier. But I guess every situation is different. I certainly wouldnt call them scam artists but maybe I would if what happened to you happened to me.
  17. Ive seen this thing all over the place for 100 CDN...and am now interested with the firmware update that allows roms. I wish they incorporated the use of an external keyboard like with one of the built in games, rather than using the virtual keyboard. Maybe that will be implemented at some later date though. I will wait for it to be discounted after Chtistmas in any case. If latency is an issue though, I'm out. Metal Jesus seems to say it plays great though, and he didn't mention latency issues. As for the pack in joystick, also no big deal ..tons of viable options for that. But latency is a dealbreaker.
  18. I don't think I've ever paid more than retail for a game but that's because games used to be a lot more expensive than today. Final Fantasy for the NES, I paid about $110 for it. At some smaller comouter retailer that sold games for consoles too, so who knows if it was more than other places hut it was the only place I could find it. CDN price. I did pay quite a bit more for a console, but not sure if it is in the scope of this post. I think I paid quite a bit for Falcon Gold back in 94, F16 flight simulator. I didn't even have a PC, lol, but all my buddies did. What a beast that was. Probably $120 CDN, I think? New. Then was given a free copy of the binder style Falcon 4.0 at a recent swap...the dude just wanted to be rid of it, lol. I paid around 100 CDN new for that back in 98 when it came out.
  19. While I haven't bought next gen consoles when they are new, upon reflection I see that I somehow ended up wih a lot of once-modern consoles! I never intended to get anything post NES...then post SNES...then post PS2, which was still a slim, but in 2005 (for Guitar Hero and retro complilations). Now I have a Wii, a 3DS...Turbografx, Genesis. It comes down to cost in many cases. I'm sure I would enjoy the lost generation of PS3 and all the XBoxes, but only at the right price. With the way things acre going, though, retro gaming will be much, much different. Less nostalgic based, as nothing really goes away anymore. When a universal machine comes along that can play any 'old' games, and subscriptions will be pretty much the only way to play, then the companies will have finally gotten what they want: constant revenue from all demographics by the removal of the secondary market. Basically, the same thing that happened to used DVD and Bluray secondary market once Netflix came to prominance. Not stopping progress, of course, but that's how I see it going down.
  20. Dude, it's posts like these that make you really sound like you have zero idea of what you are talking about. Which is unfortunate, because there's lots of times where you DO know what you're talking about. Your opinion on this sounds based on revisionist Sega lover-Nintendo hater fanboyism. I think you're better than that. And much better that your post. Nut as they say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just a shame that yours is so obviously wrong his time. What contemporaries do you speak of? Surely not the Master System, and let's be clear: that was the only system you can claim was a contemporary of the NES. And the NES games blow the ever-living shit out of that system all day and night. We could go toe to toe, game for game, but who wants to waste time doing that. It's frankly so boring I want to scream. What you are possibly correct on is that plenty of new hipsters DO exhibit those three things (other than nostalgia) because they believe all the shit they read on the internet...and believe it. The NES deserves all accolades, period. Show me which system from its time and engineering equal that is better and I'll shut up, but I have had this waste of time argument enough to know there are none. Just Nintendo haters.
