Time to join in! Oops, looks like I have MW3 only. Still, aren't all the Wii servers done? What are people playing it across?
Too bad nobody out there is playing Wii U Runbow...

Hi guys. I was wondering if anybody remembers the function on the forum before the upgrade where you'd click 'new discussions' or something and all the latest threads with activity came up. It's how I accessed the site for the most part and allowed me to access parts of the forum I wouldn't normally.
What is the new equivalent to that on the new forum? The icon for new material is ok, but brings up individual posts, so tou might see somebody posted to a thread a few minutes ago, only to see the same thread a few entries below (without the newer post, I assume). It gets a bit bulky, especially for threads that have a lot of activity.
Is there any one button I can click like I could on the older forum? Thanks.

Has my favorite version of Pole Position to play because of the twist top joystick
It was a great unit, hut I found the build quality lacking. I returned no less than three of them over the Christmas season. In retrospect, it was more likely to do with the 8 way stick being used on a 4 way game that caused input directional errors, though.
Pole Position was awesome! The problem there was the programming. I would have to fire it up again but I think the issue was the timer, it wouldn't stop after you crossed the finish line so your high scores were always askew. Ither than that, the control was spot on.
They fixed the program error in the next unit, the wireless version...but the twist top controller wasn't as dialed in as the Ms Pacman unit.
Time to pull them out along with a ton of AA batts and get to work, lol.

Interesting to see some fifteen years later that one of these units is such an enigma. How is the build quality compares to the other units? I remember the buttons on the Capcom one were a bit smaller in comparison. I find it interesting that Flashbacks are still being made to this day yet the Jakks stuff is long gone.

The first "good" video game movie I remember seeing was the first Mortal Kombat movie, many years ago.
Also, although it's not technically a "video game movie" in the regular sense of the word, I had a blast watching "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" in an actual movie theater.
Aw c'mon, was Mortal Kombat released that long ago? Lol, ok, so maybe it was. Feels like last week! And agreed on Scott Pilgrim, what an awesome movie. Totally taken by surprise and was not on my radar. The beginning of real modern-retro nostalgia among the masses. Both I thought were damn good movies.
Gonna hold off on Sonic, though.
My recent faves are the Wreck It Ralph series, both fantastic.
Oh, and the original Street Fighter movie, of course. Which I actually did see in the theatre....MY EYES!! MY EYES!!!!

Is there a way to get the extra sound channels without physically hacking the bottom of the NES?

Wii U. The thing rocks, especially at the dirt cheap orphan prices I got the system and games for. Used it everyday for the better part of the last year, loving it!

All I know is that I consider playing Centipede on the CV with the Roller Controller worth the price if admission. Still, a total shame that this controller wasn't better supported.

For years I wondered why there wasn't a dedicated NES subforum, but to be honest, the High Score club is good enough. I don't visit Nintendo Age, and the classic section works just fine here.

Those controllers at the top of the thread are my design and I made them.
Nice to see someone wants to copy them...
Check out the Asteroids Vecrex controllers I 'm planning on making on the Vectrex Fans Unite facebook group.
There appears to be two Vectrex fans unite groups in fb. Which one?

Hmmmm.
Mini TG16.
Activision Robot Tank.
NES Punisher.
PS2 The Warriors
SNES Multitap.
Vectrex homebrews.
I think that's about it?
Oh, and that Numskullz Galaga 1/4 size machine.
There, that's it.

It sounds as if...gasp!...that this system would refer you play the games ON THE SYSTEM...rather than uploading roms. Mindboggling.

I like Sony, but also JVC. And yet, I've even got some Walmart specials that work and look just great. Some nice RCAs, but they tend to fart out a bit faster. If you want a really nice CRT monitor, try the ones that were made for the C64. They are smaller but look just fantastic.

I can't believe I'm about to post this, but...I was at Bed Bath Beyond the other day and they had the 2019 Legends plugged in. I played it. I ACTUALLY HAD SOME FUN, lol! It had a wide variety of games, from Coleco to arcade to SNES (Super Star Wars was on display), and I spent a good ten minutes tinkering. The screen looked fine, the controllers felt cheap but worked just fine, the game selection was fun. No noticeable audio or video lag.
How could this be, ME, enjoying an AtGames product? Well, it happened, brother. I can't explain it either.
Before I go back and pick one up, and save me the hassle of returning it later: the SD allows one to add games, but the caveat is to NOT upgrade the firmware? Any quick way I can tell what firmware is on it in the store? Adding roms is a huge draw for me.
I figure the asking price is ok if it works the way it does and still allows me to add roms from all the systems it has. But I can wait for the eventual clearance if not.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Sorry for the delay.
I have isolated the problem, but it is needing a hardware redesign to correct it. This is taking time as a new PCB needs to be made.
Great news that a fix is in the works.
Can somebody please state the exact problem, for new guys and me who isn't sure about the issue?
Do the graphics get out of whack for all games, or only on certain ones? I don't think mine has a problem but I would like to troublesshoot it. From what I gather, only certain consoles are affected.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, it was absolutely available in Canada. Future Shop used to sell them. But I only saw it once, in one location. I've seen NTSC ones on ebay from time to time as well.
-
I can see this spell the end for inclusion of Ms Pacman in future classics compilations, if Namco wins and decides to not play ball with AtGames. Which would be a shame, buts it's not like we don't have a bazillion other ways to play it anyway.

I'm still super wary about the qualiy of the keyboard this thing is going to have. Will it feel like a more modern keyboard? Who knows.

You said you are getting back into collecting, what kind of collection did you have before? What were the reasons you stopped? Those kinds of things can provide you some focus, and focus is important to guiding your collection forward. Was there something specific your old collection was or wasn't doing for you?
Are playing games as important to you as collecting them? I went the original console for me and bought an Everdrive so I can play just about everything. I have a few games for my Genesis but nothing much as the prices started getting goofy years ago. A working CD unit is great to expand the library, and you have a 32X which I think is great...although opinions differ greatly.
That CIB Model 2 sounds like a plan. Maybe a few six button controllers, or the arcade sticks. A four player multitap if you're into sports games. Retrobit has amazingly reproduced the original six button controllers and not only are they reasonably priced but the quality and feel are really awesome. They've replaced my originals.
My personal tip is keep your collection focused so you don't start hoarding things you don't really want and take a loss down the road. Aim to have more fun with it this time around and you should be set.

Here's my advice:
Price things to sell. Not ebay prices. Things were a lot more fun that way. If you end up with really high prices stuff, then sure go ahead and list it on ebay. But keep the majority if the items in your store priced to sell.
I realize what I'm suggesting is not a smart business move, but you asked. Unless you're interested in have shelfwarming stuff and regular folks not being able to afford your wares, it's the best way to get more traffic and keep people enjoying themselves....which is what will keep the scene thriving.
Good luck to you!

I've got nothing really rare...some cool stuff, but rare? Nope. I did have some rare-ish VCS games back in the 90s but they disapeared. And they weren't considered rare at the time, lol, just bad! The Zellers titles....a few other collectible stinkers.

Well I finally got to fire up this long awaited baby, and....eh, it's all right, I suppose. The video from Neg1 above says it all, really. The volume lags a bit in spots, but I was prepared for that with the NES Mini, not really a deal breaker. The double button inputs on the menu screen were apparent, although I haven't played enough games to see if it affects games themselves. I hope not.
For me, I really wish they included a better CRT filter, like the SNES Mini. That filter rocked. This one I'd peg a step less than the NES mini. And the pixel perfect is just...odd, to me. Really odd. Golden Axe just looked strange. Playable, of course, but strange. And it seemed to have these cheap deaths that I've never encountered on the actual hardware, where you get the enemy pinging you away with hit after hit, and you're basically trapped until you die. Happened like three times.
At this stage, I'm a bit underwhelmed and am awaiting for it to be hacked. All those games I was psyched for in the build up kinda fizzled upon quick plays...some of the older ones in particular.
Visually for the hardware, it's amazing. The pads are great, the plastic as mentioned a hair rougher but the DPad is improved from the original and in a good way. The system itself is gorgeous, although my volume slider has some play in the bottom position...could be normal, who knows.
And yes, that menu sound for returning back screens was a bad choice. Cringey.
I don't mind paying the retail price on this, however...hacking it should fix those issues. And since I have some Retrobit six button controllers enroute, I hope it does. I'm a bit worried for the TG16 now that this has brought me back to earth...the SNES Mini really spoiled me. I was thinking Sega would put out something to compete with that. This is still good, just not THAT good.
Just my thoughts, from a picky dude. Picky, but not unreasonable. I hope they don't plan on rereleasing these every year ala AtGames, but if they do and fix some of the issues, I might be persuaded.
For all the hoopla this M2 team was drawing on youtube, I honestly was expecting a better effort. Still worth price of admission and I like to support the concept.

Well, I didn't check the local gamestops near me, but the Minis and the 6-button controllers are sold out in all the best buy stores here in my city and surrounding burbs.
We've gots of them here in Canada. Walmarts, Best Buy, hell even in the Canex stores. TBH, I'm kinda hoping there isn't a big restock of these. Why?
Sega has done very well with this Mini. It really covers a lot of ground and it shows that they cared about this project. And they seemed to have produced a lot of these. Too many to have anybody miss out, which was the case for the Nintendo minis (until the restocks). The strange thing is you have the AtGames Genesis products shelfwarming right next to this new Mini, and that could be confusing to those who aren't quite up to speed. The AtGames stuff should have been removed prior to this launch, IMO.
If Sega doesn't move huge numbers, I hope they don't interpet that as a big negative. I'd like them keep moving in this direction. A Dreamcast mini, perhaps? Who knows.
Anybody who enjoys the Genesis should like this mini as it's every bit the equal of the Nintendo hardware, and games-wise they are even better in terms of selection (man do I miss not having Desert Strike, though, loved it on the Genesis). And once it gets hacked, you're off to the races if you so choose.

This Amazon bubble wrapper isn't making me feel good about the upcoming Turbografx 16 Mini...let's hope that we get some other options, or Amazon gets the message with enough returns of these Sega Minis and uses a proper box.

Are all Wii U physical discs doomed?
in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Posted
Sorry for clickbaity title. So I bought a new, sealed SMW 3D months ago from Walmart that still had some Wii U stock. I have already experienced an issue with games that won't load due to tiny little pinholes that appear to start in the top, art portion of the disc.
I just checked my SMW 3D today to see if I could spot any, and, sure enough, I can see one very close to the inner spindle area. Having been aware of this problem, I'm very careful with how I handle the games. But this was a new game, verified pinhole free on opening, and now about six months later, it's got a hole. What gives?
Can anybody speak to this phenomena? I haven't spent a lot on Wii U physical media but if this great game someday goes kaput, that will be a shame. Could it be an across the board manufacturing flaw? It's really a shame. I've personally had it happen now to SMW 3D (still working though), Marioparty 10, Mariokart 8...only the first was new, the others used. But still.
Maybe Nintendo warranty cover this one as it was purchased new, or is it the old 90 day warranty? It's really a shame as each game has had zero damage to the bottom of the disc, none.
