No worries, Tanook. Just doesn't sound like this will be for you. I don't have quite the desire to work to hard for an HD rom solution for PS1 so this will work just fine for me. No way would I have bought it though if ot wasn't possible to mod roms to it...they really botched it. So I was tempted to pick up another for the sticks today when I reconsidered...it was 29.99 CDN which is the perfect price for me...and you know what else was 29.99? The C64 mini!! I saw it marked dowon to 50 over the holidays but evem that was too much IMO. But at 29.99, sold!!! Looking at the appropriate thread to get me some SPACE TAXI on the go, heh heh. On a side note, only one out of the three local Walmarts stocked the PS1 mini. If anybody still wants one or is on the fence, now would appear to be the time to move on it.

Woohoo, mine arrived the other day. I have yet to try it out. Is there anybody here who has one that might want to help me setting it up? I'd very much appreciate it. I take it it should be no more difficult than an everdrive type of thing? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone Like Action Figures?
atarilovesyou replied to PikoInteractive's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Without knowing what IPs you have available, I don't see the point in me listing off figures I'd be interested in here. Do you have a list? Good luck, in any case. -
I'm waiting for my Vecmulti to arrive. Sure hope my Vectrex likes it!

Thanks for the oics! -
It does not. I know what you mean though. There was a Majesco 6 button controller that had that weirdness on the DPad. Not so with these.

I picked up four of these bad boys, they're great. Nice review Jin, great photos! I have some originals, some of the Majesco ones (with the turbo buttons) and these retrobit ones are virtually identical. Like you, I noticed a sligt bit of feel diffence in the buttons but perhaps once they get worked in they will react exactly the same way. The originals seem to have a bounce, in a good way. I am also glad to see that the boards are the same, at these prices I would be happy to just cosmetically upgrade my old guts into new shells! The USB ones coming out are compatbile with the upcoming (amazing) Genesis Mini so I need to grab a couple for that too. For anybody on the sidelines, fret not. They are the real deal. I even prefer them over 8Bit-do pads, and those are about as good a 3rd party product as it gets. It's shaping up to be a great year for all things Genesis!

NES High Score Club Season 15 Round 14 - Battletoads
atarilovesyou replied to asponge's topic in NES High Score Club
Someone mentioned the fact that using emulation on a non CRT screen makes things harder amd I believe it. Although for my score I used a toaster plugged into my HD tv on game mode and had no issues. I've seen some games such as Mike Tyson Punch Out become virtually unplayable when using the NES Classic on an hdtv....the lag, however small, really counts. -
NES High Score Club Season 15 Round 14 - Battletoads
atarilovesyou replied to asponge's topic in NES High Score Club
Well done! I knew my score had to fall at some point, lol. Good on ya! Definitely right about experience. My Achilles Heel in this game, and most games, is brute memorization. Those fire gates in the flying level just kick my ass. And since I didn't have access to save states back then, I only had a few shots to memorize the sequence. I have yet to finish the game but I love it all the same...I love the difficulty of it. Yet, it's really not that bad once you get to practicing it. Again, it's the lack of continues that prohibits the kind of practice one needs to truly master those later levels. Congrats! -
Why is the C64 so hard to use/emulate?

Those two games came out on the 64? Wow! Off to youtube... -

Any pics of the super scope? Scratches, serious yellowing of the sensor...leaky battery damage in the compartment? Thansk! -
I think Keetah has a good point...I liken it to music. Now that the majority of people stream their music, you can byoass everything that gets in the way: packaging, media systems. Just listen amd enjoy. Of course, I couldn't ever go that route with music. I love physical media...for better or worse. It's that very sense of speed that I do not like with modern media. Just click, and you have it. It can cause you to jump from game to game, song to song, movie to movie...and never really give the time these things require. There is a middle ground, I believe. I have a very focused collection for a few systems. I also have multicarts. I also own the mini system compilations. I keep it all organized and find just as much enjoyment in the cataloging and curating as I do the games themselves. Everything I own must work as intended. It requires upkeep, of course. Some of it is worth money, but let's be honest, I'm not selling anytime soon. Probably never. I love looking at the collections here and other sites. I cringe at the horded stuff and the mess...but understand how things can get that way, and don't blame the collector. Unless it's medical in nature, these compulsions tend to sort themselves out. Ultimately, my only change has been the end point of systems. For a long time, it was the 16 bit era. Then came some 32 bit stuff...and a Wii...and a Wii U. The later systems, I keep things on the cheap and more focused. Nostalgia doesn't rule with those yet but just wait twenty years! I don't ever see myself getting an XBox anything but...nah, not those systems. They're just not me. Most of my hobbies follow cycles...and video games tended to be cyclical, until I settled on retro. My last purge was PS1, stacks of gaming mags (a weak spot for menonce upon a time)...at a time when J had zero qualms about throwing stuff out in a dumpster once I had had enough. Now, it just goes to a thrift shop or I try to sell it. And neither of those happens much anymore now that I have become much more selective in what I purchase. I buy for keeps. I don't feel bad about it either. Which is more than I can say about my other hobbies! There's just something so satisfying about plugging in a new 2600 homebrew from the AA store and playing for as long as my current lifestyle allows (read that as...not nearly enough time) but it's the best, for me. Budget amd space. Think about both, respect them. And enjoy your stuff while you can. Walk away if you need to, but there's no shame in boxing it up in some bins and storing it for a while. You'll know of you should keep it around or move on. Most of all, don't judge. Everybody is unique. Keeps life interesting, and that's the point. Enjoy this stuff on your own terms. That's my goal, anyway.

My vote is CX40, but regarding Wico...I only remember there being two available. The Wico Boss, which had one button on top of the stick (not a great placement but did wrap Chopper Command with it for the first time) and another version that was red and black with a bat shape. Two buttons, ine on top again and the others on either side of the base. That one, mostly my computer buddies had. Wico had great quality, my two Bosses still work great. Yeah, the throw is too long for most games. The leaf switches were responsible for that arcade feel.

If the output via HDMI has low lag already, and hy all accounts it is, tyrn there's realpy no point to have an analog out other than to satisfy purists. Which I can understand...and this is the only FPGA I can think of that would be great to have analogs outs as well as HDMI, for the reasons mentioned above with Ladybug.

Will Wii U games play in 20 years?
atarilovesyou replied to Rick Dangerous's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Updates notwithstanding, I'm more concerned about the discs themselves. I've run into not one but TWO Mariokart discs that have micro scratches from the topside that render the games useless. I've done some interwebz reading and it seems this is a thing for the Wii U, and other Bluray based games discs. Let's just say I'm going to extremely careful when buying used Wii U games. -
For the record...I have a cousin who happens to live in his Mom's basement. He has a net worth of over four million dollars. I know, I know....I'm just sayin', lol.

NES High Score Club Round 12 - Ninja Gaiden
atarilovesyou replied to asponge's topic in NES High Score Club
I think that Gaiden is tough to play for score as every enemy regenerates, more or less. But the timer is still a good deterrent. The only big issue would be 1up farming, which you mentioned already. Given how difficult this game is, lots of cheap deaths will make it tough for anyone to survive long enough to post a crazy high score. Maybe just a players agreement to see how far they can get in one game, snap a pic on your last life and recall the final score?
