  1. Thanks for your hard work, man! I just wish I could participate a bit more often.
  2. Wow, some great shirts in this thread! I have worn them ever since the retro Atari logo shirts became somewhat popular in the late 90s. I only wear the retro gaming shirts, but usually on around Christmas most times. Makes me feel like a kid again, lol. I've added quite a few recently though as Walmart now has stocks of random shirts. But a real pain to dig through them all to find them in my size! What started it was a random official NES SMB box art shirt, on black. I have one similar from way back but on a more blue back ground. This black one was perfect, but none in my size. Those marketing geniouses did two things...now I always check for that shirt, and in doing so I find other cool styles that come home with me...mostly retro stuff. NASA shirts, DnD stuff...old Star Wars, Rubicks...Pac Man. Best part, they're like 11 bux CDN! Some even less. Not all are top quality thickness but some are. Check it out if you're into that. Will post some pics here of my collection.
  3. Agreed. I remember readjng at the tine in Consumer Reports that video games were a fad. Hard nope: yes, Pac Man and Donkey Kong and Asteroids were fads...but 'video games' were and are not, any more than movies are fads. Perhaps I haven't looked up the def of a fad lately but hoola hoops and Tickle Me Elmos, Cabbage Patch Kids...thise are fads. But toys are not. I think the older generation of business people completely misunderstood what video games were and what they meant...and what they would eventually become. Not the first time, nor the last.
  4. The thing to keep in mind regardless of the 'how' the crash happened, the demand for video games as an entertainment form never went away. Comparing those days in 83 to 85 to today is truly apples and oranges, so reasons today like console lifetimes doesn't really apply...and slack needs to be given to some degree as this was a new industry, so to speak. It's never as simple as some soundbite youtube clickbait or millenial noob who wasn't there will have you believe. I personally think that if Atari had released the Jr in 84, and reduced the price of carts instead of blowing them out, could have kept them in the game long enough to have a more seamless transition to the 7800. Too right about the 5200, though..as expensive as it was, you weren't going to get much more than better graphics for games that had already been released...thinking along the lines that all the vinyl guys would upgrade to CD tech, rebuying the same albums...obviously didn't happen.
  5. The screwy tuing is that the customer isn't just the buyer in ebay, it's the seller too. Conceptually, ebay has chosen not to recognize this important fact and that's not good. Especially when you end up choosing other places to sell stuff, which are actually beginning to pop up (such as Reverb, for musical instruments). When ebays sees a big dip in people choosing to sell, the pendulum will swing back to something more sane. I also think that's the whole reason they cranked up their fees because they realized early on that instituting these 'buyer before all' policies, they'd lose a lot of potential sellers...what would ebay be without sellers? Or maybe they just took the Walmart approach, treating sellers the same way they treat suppliers. Hope this turns out well for you in any case.
  6. Funny, as all my Everdrives that came from Krizzk were just small generic cardboard boxes...and a few pages of documentation for lazies who didn't want to go read a forum. I can't imagine him claiming a box, and to think ebay sided with him. KEY-rice-st.
  7. If he signed a NDA, how did you hear about this story?
  8. I have a sinking feeling that if I ever come across a Galaga in a random Walmart visit, it'll come home wih me.
  9. Recycling Pathfinder? I would have thought it would be easy to donate that stuff to some gamers. Is it really that far gone these days, or just obsolete printings? Im still in the hunt for a really great CRT...I have three but not one the ONE...needs to be large, in great shape and the picture needs to be top notch. Hard to do unless you're dealing with a hobbyist, and their stuff isnt cheap.
  10. Usually just the cart for that price, believe it or not. Another meet is coming up in April so I will be looking for it again.
  11. Its a lot of work to do, but I do that too. I have never needed to use it but Im glad to see it worked out for you.
  12. If these My Arcades are using real ROMs, I'd be in. Doesn't look to be the case. I don't know how I resisted getting these but glad I didn't. My reasoning is that yes, they look cool, but I want something you can play. Plus, I tend to collect everything and space becomes an issue. I almost am tempted to get the 1UP Galaga but even there the quality just isn't there IMO...but it sure looks great and the size is right. Still interested in seeing this Namco one coming up.
  13. It really is a shit policy. I haven't sold on ebay in years but need to, and even though I haven't had issues before, I'm certain to this time around due to what I need to sell...collectibles. Ebay has nothing to lose with it's Satisfaction Guarantee...except SELLERS who will use other means, if there only were other means, to sell their stuff. With a no-return policy, that usually means the buyer will try to get your stuff at a discount in order to 'satisfy' him. Well...that's a pretty huge window. And leaves the onus on the seller to ensure every minute detail is included or else face a return. Yet I've read about buyers who end up winning disputes over the most ridiculous stuff...it's as if you can't ever have enough details. That's why it's so important to you almost undervalue your items so as not to get them to expect something nearly new...even though it is. I've been very lucky, nearly all my stuff is boxed, sealed. But what if they crack the seal on an item no longer in stores and for some reason don't like it? Or say the sealed game from the 90s actually doesn't work for whatever reason? It gets sent back..only for you to test it it, find out it works and that the reason the seller initiated a return was because he found the same thing a few bucks cheaper after he committed to your item. Happens all the time! Now you're stuck with a perfectly working game that has a broken seal, devaluing it immensely. And where are the protections from ebay for the seller in this case? There ARE none. I really wish there was an alternative.
  14. What a great story! (the one about Mario Bros) Thanks for sharing...MAME is just as big a nostalgic moment for me as any other. Being able to play REAL video games on your home computer?...amazing. Too bad it's a lot harder to get into now than it was then.
  15. I have seen Metal Storm in these parts for no less than 300 CDN...so I obviously need to look harder! I've also noticed not much mention of the whole 'fire hazard' warning with post SF2 releases...was it just a marketing gimmick to draw more attention? You'd think every game they release would need that disclaimer.
  16. https://www.resetera.com/threads/retro-bit-is-making-an-officially-licensed-metal-storm-nes-reprint.92532/ I think I will be in this one as I've been wanting it a long time. That said, if this release causes a nice drop in price of the seriously inflated original, maybe it would be smart to wait. As a collector I would always prefer an original, but Retrobit does a nice job with these repros. Thoughts?...if you're not a collector, please feel free to waste your time telling me your opinions on comments I'll heartily ignore
  17. Wow...passing up Sony PVMs? Insanity!...I would loooove to find one in the wild. And I looooove CRTs. Deal with it.
  18. Tell me about it...I learned mjne when I got a Canon HD videocam in 08...just way too ahead of the curve for my setup, and ten years later I still haven't uploaded any video to youtube...the whole reason I got it for. It was 800 CDN...the files were AVCHD, and my editing software didnt recognize those files until I got a new laptop two years later....but not before I wasted hundreds on other software packages that said they would work with AVCHD but didnt. Havent made that mistake again...even though the camera was still pretty good.
  19. I can tell you that it the games are definitely not MAME. Bosconian doesn't play so great using only four controllwrs and the ROM is considerably different and better on the later Jakks pnp sticks. Did Dug is definitely not arcade port, and while I also dont think they are using NES roms, Im not sure what they were using. For the record, I think that this first version was the best quality stick they came out with until the last aracade ones. The Namco collections after that were so flaky regarding QC. And the four wag stick makes playing Pac Man and Dig Dug really fun. I really enjoyed it actually, amd helped start me get back into retro gaming quite a bit.
  20. Somebody say toys?....looooove toys! Are these those lil plastic ships you can use like Skylanders?
  21. I wish this was a sticky...just google how to safely boil the original connector. I have a good post here somewhere as well. The issue is 100% connector and you don't need to buy the crummy 3rd party replacement connector. Boil it, clean your carts and enjoy another ten years of flawless performance.
  22. I remember a video that was circulating on the web pre-uoutube of anti Sony fanboys throwing the PS2 off a roof. We were still playing the Dreamcast and PS1, and luckily didn't know about fanboys. That would change. While I still have more memories with PS1, PS2 finally brought gaming into the main mainstream. I didn't get one until Guitar Hero released sometime in 2005.
