  1. Sweet Moses!... ...now I have it. I just picked up one, and after I decide how to mod it I'll pick up the other. Funny enough, some guy noticed the lack of 'atari smell' once he busted it open...ha, I noticed the same thing!...remember that old new game smell?..ha! The sticks felt right, but they seem to have a lot of throw in the axis. The fire button feels good! I'll post a nice long review of sorts after I play it! Damn, all the waiting is over!...it was kinda fun, actually! Bring on version 3.0!!! Ha!
  2. ...the Sega Collection would be fantastic if it were actual arcade ports, not the 'sega ages' versions. I'm sure they're fun for some, but I want the real deal! I too would have liked to see Darius..although who knows, perhaps they had a hard time making it a good game with only one screen length. I hope that the companies continue to make the oldies gold again. Could you imagine Double Dragon, Renegade....a couple other choice goodies from the past. I suppose Renegade could make a future installment of Taito since it was, I believe, licensed by them.
  3. ...FOR THE SWEET LOVE OF MERCILESS CRAP, IT'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRE...I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THAT CUTE CHICK AT EB AND SHE'S NOT LYING WHEN SHE SAYS THERE'S TWO OF THEM FOR 40 BUX AND I'M BUYING THEM BOTH AND I'M LEAVING RIGHT NOW TO GO GET THEM AND HERE I G---------
  4. ...I cry on the inside because I don't have my FB2 yet...sob. I SHALL HAVE IT...and when I DO, well, that will truly be something.
  5. ...I've been lucky with working ol NES's..although I usually found it was the dirty carts that messed up a pristine machine. I babied mine over the years and it still doesn't blink..it's just I'm not so into the older NES games anymore, just the atari stuff. Not to say I don't love it, it's just that I didn't find myself using it enough.
  6. ...on the phone with Walmart right now!!...curses! ..by the way guys, is it the fixed one without the sound chip problems?
  7. ..this is off topic, but I have a buddy who was ripping through Zelda the other day, and he can STILL SAVE HIS GAME!!...what, those batteries have gotta be almost 20 years old!!...and they still save his game?...what sweet design that was!..a battery backup that OUTLASTED his system!! Yikes!
  8. ...great stuff. So my last question would be, is the only difference between the Sanwa parts in the components, or cosmetic...that is, I'm sure Sanwa parts are of high quality, but I think that only a technophile will know or tell the difference....I'm going to go with the Tekken stick for sure, but that SF2 stick is very nice indeed. Were it in a store here, I'd have a hard time choosing! ...and how would you compare the sticks as far as durability?..I can already sense my SoulCaliber sticks getting a bit stick tricky after a heavy round of street fighter! Thanks again.
  9. ....oh cursed world..I shall be the LAST CANADIAN withOUT a FB2!!....dammit...I cry, on the inside...and out. Yipes.
  10. ..ah, memories. I can't think of one old arcade still open. It'll have to wait till I retire in many years to make the labour of love a reality!...calf muscles not included!
  11. ..thanks again. I think I'll go Namco...but lastly, do they click quite loud?...and how do the buttons match up to arcade feel?..are they as loud as the stick for clickiness? Sorry with all the questions, I sure wish the damn store would let me just try it out!!...hahaha!
  12. I wonder if there's any locked games on this disc?...anybody?
  13. ....speaking of bonus materials, is there any in the Capcom Collection?...or the Taito, or others for example?...how can we find out?
  14. ...yep, that looks to be the mag with the cheapo paper!...cool, although I don't recognize the cover....Iron Tank, yipes, what a piece of crap that was...although I'm not into SNK that much, granted.
  15. ...Zoo Keeper?..I must be missing out, cause I thought it was just so-so..then again I haven't really gotten in depth with it. I really hope they do a volume 2 and add some more games...would it be too much to ask for a REAL Arkanoid style controller???....I guess so, as only the NES had a dedictated controller for that great game!...anybody know of a way to make that happen on a PS2?
  16. ...now THAT'S the kind of indepth info I was looking for!..sweet!...mucho thankso! ...since I'll be using the stick for old school games, the ball of the Tekken stick sounds like a better fit. As long as the parts are quality, I don't mind the extra bucks. I live in Canada too, and it seems like I'll have to order the SF2 stick from out of country. And with it's weight, the shipping costs might push me towards just going with the Tekken stick. I have a PS2 so the Xbox compatability isn't much of an issue with me...upon further research, I think that the buttons on the SF2 are more my style, with the tops being concave, not 'domed' like the Tekken stick. I don't like the micro switches 'too clicky' either...again, a small detail, but if one is more clicky than the other..The SF2 buttons also look a little more spaced out, which I like. I like the huge size of the SF2 stick, tho...even though they weigh roughly the same. I think I'm going to go with the Tekken one as it's available in my city, and the quality looks good. Without spending a load of cash, I think it'll be as close to the arcade sticks of the past I can get with minimal problems like shipping. Thanks for the info, again!...if there's any more you want to tell me about the differences, let me know!...does the ball top on the Tekken stick 'spin'?...or is it fixed?..I'm not really into the spin, which you don't get with a bat, but that's a minor detail.
  17. ...thanks for the tips...plus the PS1 versions are dirt cheap to buy...I might get them just for the hell of it..being direct ports is a bonus, and I want to see this sideways TV screen deal!
  18. ....which stick is right!..I'm in Canada, and it looks like I can order the SF2 stick, and it has a wicked looking layout and the parts look quality, but so does the Namco stick!...I'm leaning toward the SF2 one right now, but after shipping charges, I don't know....hope to hear more opinions. The Namco stick looks to be true ball and stick whereas the SF2 looks to be a bat. Not a big deal, I guess..I do like the ergonomic design of the buttons to match your hands, whereas the SF2 is 8 straight across...hmmm...the Namco one I can pick up TODAY and I'd have to wait for the SF2 stick...not sure what I'm gonna do! Christmas is coming, and I have NO intention to really use these sticks for fighting games...being old school, for me, so maybe the ball and stick type for Namco will score it points.
  19. ..it's a hefty price, and they won't let me open the package to 'feel' the stick and buttons!....note, I'm only going to use this stick for Galaga, Ms Pac and the oldies!...they look at me odd when I tell them that! Up till now I've relied on the Soul Caliber 2 stick for PS2, but it's not fantastic...but I got 2 at a steal price, so there ya go. Any reviews of this stick?...is it true that it's like a ripped out stick from the arcade machine? I've heard some good things about the Street Fighter 2 special edition joystick as well...cheaper, and you can buy it seperately...but one dude in the store was really drooling over the quality of the Namco stick. Any takers? ...here's a link to the Street Fighter Stick...damn, it looks awesome..it's either this or the Tekken one... http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=...kref=compcharts ..sorry bout the cut and paste.
  20. ..I'm glad this topic is started, as I'm a huge fan of Ms PacMan and was kinda pissed that the first Namco Museum on PS2 had those lame side borders. My only question is if the emulations are good!...if they are, they'll be worth the buy, but many places, like Gamespot, are HAMMERING the quality of the emulations!....mind you for around 25 bux, who can complain, but i'm not that into buying the newer one when I can pick up the Capcom one (which is fantastic and I own)... ...but this post has changed my mind, I'm going to pick it up. I wonder how hard it would be to find the original Musuem for PS1 with Galaga and Ms Pacman..I think I might have seen one in Walmart the other day...just for the option to turn a screen on it's side for TRUE MsPac and Galaga!...but is the emulation as good?...hmm.
  21. ....to get to your favorite arcade as a kid?...back when you didn't have a car, I mean!...I remember the arcade in my hometown was a 35 minute bikeride, which my best friend at the time took using back streets because it was "too far" of a ride, plus our parents weren't the biggest fans of video games PLUS we didn't have any damn money, so we had to go bottle picking to fuel our habit!!...I swear I have some good calf development to this day from all that bike riding! And no stolen bikes outside the seedy place! On a sadder note, I was so damn addicted to games that if my buddy wasn't around and my tire was flat...and all I had was TWO DAMN DOLLARS (yes, EIGHT quarters!...which lasted for many hours in my skilled hands..hahaha!), I'd WALK that distance...about and hour and 20 minutes....I was routinely late for dinner....oh the ensuing lies!!! "Homework study class after school!...You know how it is!!"... ...man. But really, I looked at it this way: Less bottles in the landfills, and we were damn healthy from all the walking and riding of bikes!...at least enough activity to negate the standing around in front of machines....I guess we had some 7-11 type stores nearby with games, but they usually sucked...so the long haul was needed! Anybody else go to extreme measures to play those old great games?
  22. West Coast Canada, in Vancouver (Burnaby to be exact) LESTER'S FUN TIME PALACE!!! ...this place was in existence till a few years ago...and still had an oldie section in the corner with Arkanoid, Galaga, Ms PacMan and Donkey Kong Jr. This damn arcade was around from at least mid 80's, and was the main reason I went to Vancouver as a kid!...it was SO packed during the Street Fighter heyday, it was like the Beatles were in town!...it was the first time I got completely destroyed by a family to Asian wonderkids, trading off between rounds, letting me win one round, then proceeding to destroy me.... This arcade had every damn game you could think of through it's lifetime. Now it's like coffee shop or something. I still remember even in the SF2 days talking to the main manager dude and him complaining about how much the HUGE screens for the SF2 corner cost him...and how many years it took to make it back, well after the glory days of SF2 had passed. Sigh. ...as a kid in the 80's I remember VIVIDLY the commercials for Chuck E Cheese's...there was one in Vancouver, but it was kinda, I dunno...more restarant than arcade....the commercial featured Mach 3 and indeed, I'm pretty sure I CRAPPED IN MY PANTS when I saw it. I didn't see a Mach 3 machine in the flesh till, hmmm...probably 1988!!...even with Afterburner around, I was impressed....also with Firefox...both due to the LaserDisc technology, as I really had no clue that the gameplay was boring and repetitive...I still was in awe!!!
  23. ...after much thought about my last post..well, ok, a few hours, really..I wandered through an 'arcade' around here in a mall...it's got the ticket games, some pins, and some crummy fighting games and what not. They must have a LOW overhead, but they still exist!...I should talk to the owner! The only problem with using real quarters are you'd end up with the same problem as years ago with the slots getting jammed and all that, kids trying to rip you off....lol! Plus, you're trying to pay a wage of today's minimum using quarters....that's a lot of quarters you'd need to get in a day to break even!...perhaps the slide cards I've seen at recent places would work, but then you lose the whole "stacking the coins" on the side of the screen! You'd also need to be smart about how many duplicate games you'd have. No more than 2 Street Fighters!...ha. Then the real world smacked me in the face....you'd really need something to draw the average person into his car and out to one of these arcades. I mean, I'd go, but would the average joe? Who knows, but I'd bet that they might not....unless it was in a friendly mall or something. So I suppose you could have a few of the older basketball hoop style games, but no ticket machines. The sad thing is that perhaps the arcades were simply meant to go 'extinct'...to make it a real entity the likes with which we recall are slim, I'd say. Although I'm still going to do up a business plan!!!!!
  24. ...I still remember seeing the thing briefly in the stores back in the day, wondering who the hell would want THAT???...ha!...plus I thought the controllers looked lame. No AV compatablility on the top loader?....odd, since the original NES had it...not that I ever used it.
  25. Let me test my memory...EGM came out in the fall of 89, I believe...I had one of the first issues, had the Genesis version of Ghouls and Ghosts on the cover...had a blurb on the Lynx on the inside from a CES. Gamepro was out in fall of 88 or 89...I had the second issue with an artistic Gradius 2. Funny, I also got an issue of Atarian back then too. Hmmm...there was another major publication called Video Gaming, or something....first issue was like around 87 or so...Master Blaster on the first issue? There was this one mag that had pulp paper contents....crappy quality paper, but a good mag from what I remember. It was in the 80's. Mind you those were the bigger late 80's NES days....I can't recall the names of the early stuff....but they were around! I remember one that had a huge article on the Vectrex..drool. And I had a few issues which I can remember clearly...just not the title!..had reviews of some Coleco games...like Frontline!..I recall that was the first time I ever heard anything negative about that game!...I was shocked, I thought it was the ULTIMATE in gaming at the time!...it likened the bomb sound effects to 'baby burps'....perhaps, but hey...it was the 80's!!! I'd like to find a good resource for those old mags....memories! Nintendo Power, before it became a magazine published a quarterly 4 page newsletter....man, that thing was like mana from heaven!!!...those days!!!
