I'd try a different rom for Road Runner. That doesn't happen here. The game plays fine on fw 1.30.
Turning the controller off then repairing fixed the issue.

I updated the firmware to V1.30, with the 2600 version Road Runner, it will run but doesn't allow you to start a game to play, anyone else have this issue?

This is an issue with the 2nd controller port and button inputs floating as I remember, it's related to the 7800 hardware itself, not the 7800GD. If you plug a proline (or other compatible controller) into port 2, it should solve the issue.
Thanks for the quick reply, that worked. It's actually playing a lot better with the second controller connected as picking up the blocks was quite erratic.

I can play the game OK the first time I run it but when I die I cannot replay it, buttons 1 and 2 don't respond. It will continue to play the demo where the characters run around the game logo. I have to then turn off the 7800, and wait for a couple of minutes, then I can play again but only for one credit. I'm running the latest firmware. Is anyone else having this issue? My version of the game is from the Steam download which has been patched.

Yep, I thought that was the case.

Do rename firmware.ovr to firmware.upd?
I've renamed it to firmware.upd, firmware upgraded, and can confirm the audio levels can be changed.

I've deleted the 7800GD.ini file which then resets the audio levels but when I change them again, it just stays on the one square as per the screenshot and it doesn't allow you to change the levels.

I could, but why? Only a handful of games have issues?
I've found some other homebrew titles and testing/utility titles that don't work correctly or at all with the break menu enabled.
-
Is it possible in a future firmware to have the Break Menu permanently disabled?

Interesting, this sounds like port 2 button ghosting. I didn’t know it was that common. The control ports on the 7800 can give false button press readings when there is no controller plugged in, and by default the menu takes input from either controller. If port 2 is reading that a button is pressed down then the buttons basically will not function.
Press START on the MD pad or SELECT on the console on the game selection menu then change UI CONTROL to PORT 1 (not port 1+2).
Let me know if this sorts it, I have a feeling it will.
I can confirm that this has fixed the issue. I've power cycled once and the menu is responsive, previously I had to do it two or three times.

When my menus glitch like this, moving up and down is always rapid. I can’t step through items one by one, as I can when it’s working correctly. Do you see that behavior?
Yes, I've come across this a few times but it seems to be random.

Yes, I have this same issue. My console is stock - no AV mod, no recapping.
From a cold start (console has been off for several hours) it can take as long as 45 minutes for me to have problems with the menu. Once the console has warmed up, I’ve seen it happen after 7 minutes.
I have to power cycle three times - two times doesn’t always work.
It's driving me a bit nuts so good to see that it's not just me. I've had the 7800 running for about 3hrs now, and power cycling twice seems to be the average for me.

That’s odd - I’ve tested both of those titles without any particular issue. Admittedly, I didn’t get deep into any one play, but I did play them several times each. And given the MANY options in Pac-Man 40th Anniversary, I certainly didn’t try them all. I think I just played through the defaults. I spent more time with the (Short Mazes) version of that one and definitely did not experience trouble.
The games themselves work without any issues, it's what happens after you you turn off the console and then back on again.

I'm having the following issue. Tested on a NTSC 7800, has been correctly A/V modified, firmware on the cart is 23.07.0363 -
1. Select a game to play, for example 1942, I play the game with break menu disabled
2. I will play the game for say 20 mins, I then turn off the console and turn it back on
3. The menu will display the last folder that I was in, I can move the cursor up and down but I cannot select another game nor exit the folder
4. I then have to turn the console off and then on again, the last folder that I was in will appear on-screen but this time I can select another game or exit the folder
I can reproduce this error every single time. Is anyone else having this issue?
-
I have found the same with Galaxian. Also found that the break menu when enabled will cause the menu to freeze when playing Donkey Kong XM and Pac Man 40th Anniversary edition. I then have to turn the 7800 off and then on twice before it allows me to select a game to play. If I just turn off/on the console once, I can see some graphic corruption on the filenames.

I'm going to purchase the RobotWar: 2684 ROM so I can help with that if required.

How am I supposed to select between the empty socket and the soldered-in basic HOKEY version of the Concerto on the order page?
Am I missing something here?
There's a drop-down menu on the order page that allows you to select with or without a Hokey.
-
Is the Concerto still available to order/purchase? I just saw this mentioned in the latest ZeroPage Homebrew video.
Found it and purchased one.

@Hasan Coskun do you have a Fujinet as assuming you meant the posted instructions directly above in post #19? ?
Unfortunately no. I'm looking at buying one or going for the SIO2PC from AtariMax. Can I also use an SDrive Max?

Do I still need to do this method when using a 130XE?

Is there any way to adjust the resolution of vertical games when playing MAME roms? For example, Galaga plays but it stretches the horizontal res so it's full screen. Do I need to add something to the cfg folder?
