I went to Wal Mart this weekend to replace my old Pac-Man/Bosconian for that very reason. On the shelf, I noticed the model Trekki L.E.O. linked to us in post #39 above, and picked that up instead. Depending on what game you play most, I.D.K. that the twist knob & 4-way vs. the old 8-way stick are necessarily improvements, but this model is I.M.O. higher quality in every other respect. Your parents still may wear this one out, but the stick & buttons feel very solid, and make audible "clicks" (may not be the right description for this sound). The casing itself is also more robust. A huge improvement over some of the shiny plastic toy shaped controllers anyways. Most importantly the games are more accurate & the sounds are much better. J.M.O.

Demon Attack. So smooth and refined, and seemed to have colors and sounds that other games didn't have access to. Very fun. Yeah it's already highly rated, but a game can still be underrated without being poorly rated.

Does it still work w/vista? Cant beleive this is even a factor in buying a notebook, but I still want to be able to play this one.

Question - FB2 Portable?
jlh2600 replied to Curt Vendel's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
just vader black with red buttons A chrome trim package would be nice. Like an FB2 LX (5.0?) ok fine. add spinning rims, pinstrips, flame decals and a spoiler too. Now your talking! You had me worried with all that tasteful understated simplicity. Where's the "bling"? Jeez. While we're at it, let's do interchangeable shells so you can vary the color, depending on your mood that day (today mine would be X-tRmE eletric FuXion). -
Thanks, none there atm, but I'll keep an eye out. Sounds pretty good.

"I've sent the Jakks agent a note with a link to this thread..." She's gotta be laughing her ASS off at you right about now. But sorry you've had so much trouble w/Jakk's products. I've had a few, most have been about par w/what I'd expect at their price points (with the notable exception of the 2 player PADDLE games- that thing is AWESOME!).

ZylonBane, ZyloneBane ZylonBane, ZylonBane Whisper words of wisdom, ZylonBane Demon Attack is a great atari2600 game, I think. It's among my favorites, along with the other Imagic titles, because for some reason those all seem to have had a whole different palette of colors available, that you don't seem to see used in other games... why is that? Anyways, crazy bright colors on dark backgrounds in all the imagic games. But out of those, demon attack was the most fun- there were others that were just as fun but didn't look as detailed and pretty. ZylonBane, ZyloneBane ZylonBane, ZylonBane There will be an answer, ZylonBane

Sony, the new sinking ship of gaming?
jlh2600 replied to T2KFREEKER's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
You have a link to any stats like that? I would love to see a timeline of sales #'s for the different systems. See how steep the decline is for each as it becomes obsolete to it's successors. -
What are the "DM Boards" the guy (whose cloudsong? was stolen) owns?

This is going to cost Sony dearly in the obese male high end portable demographic. Dearly.

Which, even if it were true, would actually make it more racist. Let's say the ad showed a white plantation owner whipping one of his slaves, and the slave was smiling. "Look, he's not suffering, he likes being a slave!" Or, to go even further, what if you'd shown a bunch of hooded KKK members with shotguns chasing after a grinning black man? Whose interests would that ad be serving? Does the apparent joy on the victim's face make the act more or less demeaning? If you take a racist ad and depict the victim as enjoying their humiliation, all you're doing is trying to justify your racist stance. "See? Racism's not so bad! They like it!" Which is more racist than if you'd shown them suffering. I don't really see a smile, though, personally. But it's still a racist ad, just not as bad as it could have been. The first time I saw this, I only saw the image, and I don't think the image by itself is necessarily racist. It's only if you see the world in terms of different colors of skin that it would be. BUT, when you then add the text that they've got there, it crosses the line. Because now Sony's saying specifically that they chose those two people because one is black and one is white, and the white one is dominating the black. Not only that, but the text is completely categorical - it's not "the white PSP is coming", it's "White is coming". Put together, this is about as blatantly racist as an ad from a mainstream company has gotten in the past 20 years or so, at least that I can remember. Man, that ad went completely over my head the first time I saw it. Not until you pointed out the (now) obvious connections to slavery, shotguns, and the Klan did I realize how racist I was being. Here I was thinking that I might enjoy that kind of treatment from Mistress PSP-White, but didn't take the time to see it from the black man's perspective. This is going to cost Sony dearly in the african american high end portable demographic. DEARLY.

LOL, whoever said that was a real dumbfuck. Where are we supposed to discuss what we like and dislike about different video games systems if not in a video games forum? Tough crowd, tough crowd <tugs on collar>

Gabriel, thanks for the recital, but you didn't address why any of this is Microsoft's problem, or of interest to anyone but yourself. It's your choice to have all that stuff hooked up, so you have to make it work for yourself. Power squids are cheap, but overloading your outlets with all those wall warts at the same time is not a good idea. You have options: a. Get yourself an AV switch and some power squids and hook up even more stuff b. Learn to live with less c. Put the 5200, VCR, and FrankenGenesis in the closet or rotate them out with the Dreamcast and SNES once in a while d. Bitch about it in a forum You seem to have chosen (d), the only choice which won't help you in any way. It's not to late to try a different approach. +1

Look, no one cares what you THINK you like about backwards compatability, or how your other bc systems are "convenient", or save you "time", "money", or "space". It has already been decided that backwards compatibility is not desirable, not to you or anyone else. What part of that do you not understand? Upgrade your TV, learn how to repair classic systems, and invest in a full parts inventory for when they fail. And if you don't have room for a bunch of classic consoles sitting on an extra shelf or two, then buy a bigger house or something... ...but don't come on a video game forum and discuss features you like and dislike about different video game systems. This is NOT the place for it.

OT I read somewhere (not official) that DS is blowing away PSP in Japan in terms of sales since DSLite came out (guess it's been out a while longer over there?)

"disc" games aren't going anywhere are they?
jlh2600 replied to jlh2600's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
So much truth. I just hope your predictions are accurate: The future will eventually see carts take over, simply because the design will make it more durable, reliable, and smaller. Now it might be a Hard disc inside a cart, but it'll still be a cart. As for Physical medium going away. It'll never happen. Nice. -
What's a NES toploader going for these days?
jlh2600 replied to guitarmas's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I think jagasian is saying that BECAUSE of those (clones), there are less people buying the NES toploader, which is driving their price down. Competition from the famiclones. And that even the NES TL audio video quality is inferior to the toaster, much less the famiclone. -
"disc" games aren't going anywhere are they?
jlh2600 replied to jlh2600's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Yeah, it's more fun (if not space efficient) to own actual game "product", than a list of files on your computer. Plus, there is something to be said for the experience of going in and buying a packaged game from a store, compared to the anticlimactic downloading of a game or music (in general). No ride home, no slicing the wrap. No such thing as a sealed nib download lol. I don't know, that stuff is just fun for me, but I know in the end profit will prevail and everything will be that way. On the durability of cd's and dvd's- I know IF you are careful with them they last as well as carts and tapes, but I know I have never had to rebuy an audio or video cassette, or game cartridge etc. I guess I'm in the minority on this, but I've always missed the ability to stack a few tapes or carts on top of one another without worrying about them scratching each other up. So I am hoping for huge advancement in flash memory something, so there will be games in the future that don't have their delicate reading surface exposed. -
I know the advantages of discs vs cartridges- so much cheaper to manufacture, superior capacity, smaller, etc, but I've just always hated CD's, DVD's, and any disc media because of durability (was dissapointed the minidisk didn't catch on- I just like an enclosure). But cartridges are pretty much dying, huh? Guess Nintendo will be the only hold out until the industry completely goes the way of music now and everything is just downloadable. What are your thoughts on longevity of carts, discs, or possible future media for games? I've heard that we've nowhere near approached the limits of maxing out the capabilities of dvds, so that woudl make me think they aren't going anywhere.

Xbox.com: What criteria do you use in choosing which Xbox games will be backward compatible on Xbox 360? How far back into the Xbox game library are you going to go? Todd: When we say Xbox library, we mean the entire Xbox library. This ranges all the way from our launch in 2001 up to games that haven't even shipped yet. As we've said before, we prioritized the top-selling titles and those games with a large Xbox Live following for launch, and we're going deeper into the portfolio every day. I don't htink it was a lie, but I would agree this is misleading. The question was what criteria will you use to CHOOSE, and he used the words "the entire xbox library." But in effect he just meant they are not categorically denying any particular titles, that whatever games they chose were chosen from the pool of the entire library... well of COURSE they were. So there were obviously additional criteria beyond the entire "xbox library", if some were left out. That was irresponsible imo. Because while I understand the argument that common sense tells you that 100% bc is not even possible (or realistic?), sometimes you guys take that kind of "obvious" information for granted. I can only speak for myself, but I don't think the average consumer would know that.

Someone mentioned headphones- is that any gb other than sp? Mine doesnt have jacks. Or are you guys rigging it up yourself somehow?

Atari Anthology Question (PS2)

Yeah, and if you had read this whole thread lol, I had already linked that thread and their answers for the original poster. And now you are aware of that and this thread. So yeah, really.
