Atari Anthology Question (PS2)
jlh2600 replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Yeah the confusion comes from the fact that they don't list the imagic titles on the box, and the fac tthat neither demon attack nor atlantis are on gba activsion anthology. -
Atari Anthology Question (PS2)
jlh2600 replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
See no demon attack listed there- but more than one person who has that game here say it's on there: "...but I know for a 100% fact that game is in the PS2 Anthology. I have it running at my desk right now and played it just yesterday." gamerj One other member (skunkworx) verified this by his copy. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88659 I'd ask onc of those guys, since they have the ps2 version. -
Atari Anthology Question (PS2)
jlh2600 replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I have it for pc and gba. Thinking about ps2 just because it's so cheap. Don't know about high scores on ps2, but make sure it has demon attack and atlantis (sadly gba does not). I almost bought it from someone on ebay, and they looked on the box and said it did not list either of these games- but people around here have ps2 AA's, and their's DO have the imagic titles. Maybe some have it some don't. -
Yeah don't get me wrong, the gba series are still fun. There is just a part of me (which the advanced versions have only teased me to explore) that is yearning to see it just like I saw it when I was a kid. What do you mean exactly about improved graphics? Does that mean just higher resolution (don't know the right word for it- I mean are graphics/colors changed or just the lines are finer). How do you mean smb2 is more like smb1? I guess I'd have to see it to understand. And similarly with the sound- same muic, just enhanced? Or improved music by way of different music?

I understand that to some degree this comparison is slightly confounded by SNES consoles being slightly newer than the NES consoles- but that's ok. I'm not comparing reliability from when they were new, but form the perspective of buying one or the other right now off ebay- Does any given SNES console have a significantly better chance of working over a NES console? Also, I never had a SNES- will the Mario All Stars game have smb 1-3 as I remember them? Or are they as different from the originals as the gba versions are (distorted, voices added, etc)? Thanks.
-
LOL! That has to be it. Man do I rember the characters looking different, remember them looking taller or something. Crazy. But that is definitley the game. Thanks!
-
Long shot, because I don't remember it that well. I thought it was street fighter, but looking at screen shots, that's not it. It's kind of an adventure type game not just one on one fighting, where you scroll across the city in 2d fighting people, and come to bosses at the end of each stage. I remember you could pick up bats and chains and other weapons to fight with. Gues sthat describes dozens of old games huh?

Atari Jakks paddle system $5.29, 2 player $9.98 w/free ship!
jlh2600 replied to MrRetroGamer's topic in Dedicated Systems
FARG I just bought the 2pp one from CC for $20 not too long ago. I just bought another one. Somehow, my twisted logic has me coming out ahead by having 2 at an AVG price of 15 than just the one I need and already bought at 20 lol. BTW the ms pac mans pnp's are still at gamestop as of yesterday for $4.99 too. -
Buying a 'so nearly new NES it's not funny'...
jlh2600 replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, now that I know the fake consoles don't play the sound accurately, I am in your position too. I think the best route is rather than finding a nearly new one nib or whatever, is to go with one of the "refurbished" ones, where they replace the connector and clean everything. Some of the ebay sellers even have some type of guarantee of "no blinking" etc, though not sure how such a thing woudl actually work out. We could probably learn how to do that to ours too. NOt like I'd be losing much, since it already doesn't work well (unless it's cart probs). -
Does the messiah have the same problems with sound and not playing certain games? Or will anything that is not original hardware have these problems ot some extent?
-
There is another topic about this, but I, like him just noticed this generic NES console in Frys, and was surprised because I thought it was just a kind of black market thing on the internet. So that makes me feel better about going for one... IF they work. Is there any one maker that in general consensus considered the best? The old controllers work with them? All the games look and play the same? If they work, that seems a better way to try and recapture old NES days than these smb facsimilies on the gba that I am paying just as much if not more for, and are not as I remember them. Any suggested links to sites/NES fake consoles, good quality/price? Thanks.

Nintendo is hinting at gameboy's end
jlh2600 replied to 8th lutz's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Regardless what NIntendo hints of their plans, the MARKET will determine when the gba is history. As long as consumers are willing to pay $30 for new games (much less used ones!), they will still pump them out for a while. I don't think they have to worry about people buying a gba over the ds (though i bet they will still sell for a while especially at 1/2 the price), because of the BC- this probably also helps with the longevity of the gba titles. I don't think the gba is going anywhere anytime soon, because for a small segment of the handheld gamers, the DS is not purely an upgrade, but more of a LATERAL/upgrade. Although only a handful of posters in this thread agree that two screens<<<one bigger screen, or like me, don't want extra stuff like a stylus involved, it will turn some off. If it were just a more advanced system, with better games, even if still BC, I think it would definitely end the gba alot sooner (all things DO come to an end, eventually), because it would be a pure upgrade. -
EDIT- sorry hex didn't realize that was completely off the wall lol! I said I was aware that bit was no longer the measuring stick . It's all I knew. This was my first post in modern gaming, because I hadn't owned a console since Atari and NES in jr high. So the point was that I didn't know what you guys take for granted as being obvious (@atarijr: "What's the point, we all know..."). Really I was looking for an objective measure to kind of put the different systems on a continuum in my mind, by how far apart they are power wise. Someone mentioned "benchmark"- guess this isn't something quantitative you can compare directly among psp, ps2 and ds? I know other factors weigh into getting a system besides power, like what games they make for it, value, whether you like cartridges or disks (bit of a scratcher myself), brand loyalty etc. I was just curious. THanks for educating.

Sweet. I picked up super mario 3, it is fun so far. Thanks. Hey do ALL of the advance versions have character voices? super mario advance- smb2? voices?
-
I haven't played a mario since SMB2 on the original NES, so since none of the advanced versions will be reruns for me, based purely on gameplay quality, which is the best one? I am overwhelmed by all the different versions, sometims I can't keep straight what is in a review because there are two different numbers in some (smb-3 SMadvance-4 all in one title). Which is the most fun?
-
Sucks they cut it for gba. That's my favorite of all that whole compilation. What's yours? River Raid?
-
So you're under the impression that all ps2 AA will have demon attack? (lol dont worry wont hold you to it or anything, they are cheap enough like $10 on ebay all day long).
-
Yeah that's what most people were saying. Closer to ps2 than ps1. Sorry to offend with the pointless discussion Rybags. I tried to make clear I knew that it was an obsolete rating. Thanks to all those who contributed.
-
WOW. Ok I understood enough of that to see my questions were answered, and that the answers don't matter, because to compare any one spec head to head, everything else has to be the same, which is not the case between any two systems. Someone mentioned the only measure you can use as a power comparison is "benchmark"? So in htis regard, is the PSP equal to the PS2? Just trying to figure out exactly how badass that thing actually is- some say it is at ps1 level, some say almost ps2 level, and some even say certain games are better in the psp version (and that they are so close it depends more on game quality, like psp games are at least as good as early ps2 games, and will get better). Is psp just as capable as ps2?
-
Man am I confused now. Ok, I am not doubting you, if you have your PS2 AA in your hands, and you are playing Demon Attack, then it has Demon Attack- but before I put a bid on one yesterday, I emailed the seller to make sure- so he looked at the actual box, and said Demon Attack is NOT listed. Could it be that there are two versions of PS2 AA out there? ONe with and one without the Imagic titles? I bought the gba version anyways, knowing that it doesn't have DA, but if you have a PS2 version that includes it, I want to find that version. Thanks.

The Atari Flashback 3 Petition
jlh2600 replied to gamer1682's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
FB3 in 2003! (06 didn't rhyme) -
What does this mean: "...the new PlayStation Portable is just as powerful as the full-sized PlayStation 2 and features..." http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/psp.htm I mean, what spec do they base that on, or is it everything combined?
-
I understand systems don't even go by that anymore, but anyone know what bit would the new handhelds are? Does the "processing power" of the PSP = that of PS2? Ps2 is 128 bit right? Just curious, I don't have anything beyond a GBA, and just found out it was equal to PS1 in that regard. Thanks.
-
Anyone know what the difference is in thse two? I have the black one- the original activision anthology for PC, but also saw something similiar called the "remix" version, while looking for an AA for GBA (which by the way, along with the PS version, does NOT have demon attack- mysteriously only the PC AA has Demon Attack, which I'd love some insight to as well). NM found out why not on ps2 and gba versions- licensing issues, but that still doesn't make sense. why not licensing issues on pc?
