  1. Got mine today, thank you @foft for a great service. Well packed and they look really nice. PM sent to @blacka013
  2. Are you able to swap the chips out to see if it's an IC fault vs a circuit issue.
  3. Don't forget to replace the heat transfer paste, I'm of the opinion the old one is failing because the old paste is no longer effective, so the heatsink is not doing its' job.
  4. Thanks for the image and confirming the regulator voltage I'm still of the opinion there is a voltage drop causing the display to go. If you had a psu with a selectable voltage and turned it down from 9v you would suddenly see the display go out, as per what your console is exhibiting. Are you able to confirm if there is good heat transfer between the regulator and the heatsink, do they both heat up?
  5. Sounds like you've entered the Twilight zone... Could you also check continuity from the IC's pins to the underside socket point. I'm thinking there is a resistance issue somewhere preventing the logic from working in game (i.e the voltage required for the on/off logic states are not being met).
  6. I should have added, did you have a piece of paper cued up for printing, before turning on the printer with the Line Feed button pressed. Just asking as I don't know how familiar you are with this model. Here is the manual, click the link, then click the download button, then solve the captcha, then click get the manual and download the pdf. https://www.manualslib.com/e/epson+lx+86.html
  7. I don't know if there was ever a Sams computer facts manual put out for this printer, would be worth looking. I'd also check under this link and see if one of the similar reported models has a service manual online too. http://www.faqs.org/faqs/atari-8-bit/faq/section-32.html Good luck!
  8. These are pretty reliable old machines and very well made. I've got a couple of similar models I'm going through too. The good thing is yours powers up! You'll want to open it up and take a peek inside to get your bearings. You'll see the parts are quite modular inside and everything connects up. Don't be afraid, you'll see the main board, the power board (I'll call it that) and the print mechanism, with the console (the button panel). You'll need to set aside a day, as it's your first one. Open it and give the parts a good cleaning as you go, dirt plays havoc on the mechanism so get rid of it. At this stage I'd be wanting to check everything is connected up correctly, so I'd unplug all the connectors inside one by one, cleaning them as I go. Then assemble and do a test and see how it responds. Good luck!
  9. I just wanted to show off with my MS Paint skills.
  10. It looks like power has been lost, some component may have gone bad in the supply line. It's a very clean loss of power like a switch has been flicked. I say this as it appears a component somewhere is over heating and has gone into shut down. I can't see what you've done when I say this), did you dither too long on any particular component when soldering. Firstly, with the top off and when the display is blank, is it still giving a steady 4.92v? Also with the top off and powered briefly is there any sign of smoke, or discolouration to the components in the power circuit (following the parts in line from the power jack to the voltage regulator).
  11. That would also make it a great environment for solving mathematical formulae in direct mode or as a little program.
  12. For me it was the Atari Peripheral Emulator, it needed a slave PC for my A8. Got a used IBM 386.
  13. I like where you're going with this... A word processor follow up would be cool too!
  14. Purchased the Turbo Freezer, in the thread below. I recommend Santosp, as a very pleasant member of this community and hope to deal with him again in the future.
  15. Back in the day I had my printouts stuck on the disk jackets, it was the best place for them.
  16. I mentioned in another thread, I got one back around 2009, once I fixed it, it worked great with my 1050.
  17. Just been looking at it. Looks to be in good shape despite the clip snapping off.
  18. This is still on my to do list (still after all these years).
  19. Thanks for the offer of help, that's really kind of you.
  20. Honestly, I keep looking at SuperCharger BASIC. Need to get my coding head on, it's a great environment that's seeing some good development.
