Nintendo Switch overtakes 1990s SNES console in sales
Steven Pendleton replied to 0078265317's topic in Nintendo Switch
I think Metroid Fusion on GBA is the earliest example that I remember of sleep mode. It still drains the GBA battery since it is still on and I never found a use for it, but it's available. Some of the earlier PS4 games also don't like sleep mode as they were made before sleep mode was. Of my games, Omega Quintet has problems with it. Anyway, the Switch deserves its success. It's good enough to play modern games with reduced graphics (or better than PS4, in the case of Alien Isolation according to Digital Foundry), it has a large screen for a dedicated game system, and also the battery is generally good enough as a handheld. In the case of the Switch, "good enough" is a good thing, just like how the Game Boy was also "good enough" and still outsold the far more advanced Game Gear, Nomad, game.com, Neo Geo Pocket, and the WonderSwan, which all came later, and the Game Boy remained on the market after all of those other systems were pulled. -
Tiger Electronics LCD Handhelds - The Return
Steven Pendleton replied to Hwlngmad's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You know what's really crazy? These things sell for tons of cash in Akiba. I saw Tiger Batman for sale yesterday for just over 8000 yen. It was all yellowed, too. I'm not sure who would pay 8000 yen plus tax for a Tiger game, but apparently someone would or they wouldn't have it for that much. -
Hey, they are still available on Amazon Japan through a third party seller at MSRP! I have heard that they do not fit on the Genesis Mini for some reason, but the Japanese MD Mini has better games, anyway, if you're into using these mini consoles. Asia one might be even better depending on your personal taste.

Do not use Mega Sg Game Gear adaptor
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If you don't have one now, don't worry, as they are making a new batch to fix the current ones. These sold out very quickly, and so by the time they are available again, the problem will be fixed. -
The Ugliest Looking Game System Ever!

MiSTer without a case might be ugly to some people. I kind of like how it looks like a handmade bomb or something, though. -
When did they start selling incomplete games?
Steven Pendleton replied to Keatah's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Yeah, it's their fault for enabling it on consoles, and since consoles became mainstream outside Japan when the Xbox made gaming accessible to the non-gaming market (Sony had a super nerdy image at the time, as did Nintendo with their long history in the industry), this is the cause of everything wrong with the modern industry. You know what else caught fire? The Mega-CD prototypes, supposedly continuing until not long prior to Japanese launch. Sega really did use the worst quality parts for that one. The whole thing was a badly designed, hastily assembled rush job to have a CD unit to compete with the PC Engine. -

Yeah, whenever I refer to "Xbox" I refer to the collective nastiness of all of them together unless I call out one specifically. Great job for more or less ruining games, Microsoft. Yes, someone else would have done it if you hadn't popularized it, but you did, so you get the blame for eternity and your reputation can NEVER be purged! Unless you make a time machine and unmake the Xbox, which would be awesome. Please find a way to make it happen! -
As I don't think I have seen the NES in real life (plenty of Famicoms, though) and have obviously never played a real one, one of my friends keeps advising me to stay away from basically all of the boring things that everyone on Youtube talks about like the Nintendo IPs, Castlevania, Contra, etc. (his words, not mine!) and play more obscure things. I did get a Famicom Mini and honestly most of the games on there, save Akumajou Dracula (FDS), are not super appealing to me at all. Except Metroid, of course, which is a great game. I know, I went and played the REAL original Castlevania game (not the NES version) as my first entry in the series after being recommended to avoid mainstream stuff for that platform, but it's really great.

It's quite literally my dad's fault that I play video games. He bought the Genesis and even ran a LAN cable through the vent and through the basement into my Mac just so we could play Unreal Tournament, StarCraft (yes, spawn!), Command & Conquer, and more. Then we stopped playing together for some reason. Did play Delta Force Black Hawk online with him a few times in maybe 2004/2005 and also Joint Ops Typhoon Rising a few times. I never really cared for BHD (or any other non-historical shooter) very much though.

Yeah, it actually looks like they have free shipping for everywhere BUT the USA if your purchase value is above a certain amount. This amount is way less than the DE10-Nano, though, so for anyone outside the US, it seems that you should always qualify for free shipping. No promises, though, so be sure to check before you blame me for not free shipping!

There it is, the Sodipeng ad for the SuperGrafx! I heard those (and all other French PC Engines) got RGB modded by Sodipeng. I imagine that the French SuperGrafx are super rare and expensive now. I wanted to buy a SuperGrafx before I got my MiSTer, but I got a regular CoreGrafx instead. Then I tried the SGX games on the MiSTer and I am glad I did not waste my money on one!

Posted this in the Genesis section, but just in case, I thought I should maybe post this here as well. https://support.analogue.co/hc/en-us/articles/360039868671-Mega-Sg-Game-Gear-Adapter-v1-0-PLEASE-READ

I meant DigiKey in general. I forgot about the auto IP address. You guys get it cheaper than I do. They are a US company, after all. https://www.digikey.com/products/en/development-boards-kits-programmers/evaluation-boards-embedded-complex-logic-fpga-cpld/796?k=de10-nano For the record, that's $130, with free shipping, anywhere in the world. Edit: or not. they used to have free shipping over a certain order value. Disregard.

Genesis - Best Games I Probably Didn't Know About
Steven Pendleton replied to DrVenkman's topic in Sega Genesis
Want my opinion as a Super 32X owner? Not worth it unless you're a hardcore Mega Driver like me who is totally obsessed with the system. Most of the games are not that great, and there are only a handful of titles that I would consider to be excellent: Kolibri, Space Harrier, After Burner Complete, and Virtua Racing Deluxe. Everything else is okay at best or barely playable at worst, and even Kolibri is honestly not all that special. I would look into getting a Mega-CD/Sega CD/ MegaSD if you are interested in the CD games, though, as there are some really solid titles on there like Sonic CD, Earthworm Jim Special Edition, Snatcher, and Road Blaster FX/Road Avenger. Your call, though. Just be sure to play this game, which I picked up today! Well, the one of the two of these that actually fits in the system! Good thing I already recommended it! -
Why do you like Intellivision?
Steven Pendleton replied to Intelligentleman's topic in Intellivision / Aquarius
Delicious woodgrain and gold + awesome box art = win. Also my mother had one, but I only played Pitfall for maybe 5 minutes before going back to the Genesis since I was young and stupid. -
StarCraft Ghost footage
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Interesting. Maybe he went to Blizzcon, but he's from PA/NYC area, so I'm not sure. He joined the Army after we both got out of the Marines, and he's been a bit hard to get a hold of for the past year because of training and stuff. -
I think you might have missed DigiKey, which has the cheapest DE10-Nano on the internet and crazy fast free shipping. Order placed to in-hand was 3 days over a weekend. Ordered Friday, had it in-hand on Monday morning. https://www.digikey.jp/products/en/development-boards-kits-programmers/evaluation-boards-embedded-complex-logic-fpga-cpld/796?k=DE10-Nano

Game Boy kicked ass globally! It deserved to, though. The only Sega/Nintendo console war that has ever really happened was in the USA and maybe Canada. Basically, Sonic, blast processing (which really does exist), and Genesis Does = roughly even sales for the duration of 90~94 when the Genesis hardware got scaled back greatly in favour of the Saturn but the SNES remained on the market along with the N64 in some limited capacity. It should be noted, however, that they still made Genesis games. I remember picking up The Lost World Jurassic Park, which was a 1997 release in the USA and I believe the final game released for MD in Europe. PC Engine kicked the Mega Drive out of the fight in 4th gen in Japan before MD even released. So did the MD launch title Osomatsu-kun. Osomatsu-kun was so bad that it's considered to be one of the two biggest reasons the MD failed, and everyone, including the creator of Osomatsu-kun and supposedly even its own dev staff, disowned it as a pile of trash. The other reason is the PC Engine, which launched a year earlier and does basically exactly the same thing: bring a very accurate arcade experience (for 1987) to the home. It would still have failed if the Super Famicom never existed because even the Famicom, released in 83, still outsold it. The SG-1000, Mark III, and Master System all totally failed because the Famicom was so good and then the PC Engine came along and killed them for good. There was no fair Nintendo/Sega fight in Europe in 3rd or 4th gen. The opposite of what happened in Japan happened in Europe, where the MD launched first and was backed by the extremely good reception of the Master System. Then since the TurboGrafx-16 had failed so badly in the US, it got a very limited release in the UK, France, and I think Spain as both the TurboGrafx in the UK (no -16, this time) and the PC Engine elsewhere, and I know there was also a very small supply of SuperGrafx shipped to France. Meanwhile, the NES didn't do as well as it did elsewhere because of the computers thing, so the SNES did very poorly in Europe. Not sure why the Master System was so popular, though. I'm not European, though, so forgive me if I'm not 100% accurate. I also did all of this from memory, so maybe I got something wrong or forgot something important. Forgot Brazil. Lol Master System land.

So... Xbox 360?
