  1. Intellivision? X68000? Mega Drive? FM Towns? 2 of those were super expensive, though. Mac... *becomes sad* From what I heave heard, Europeans either had the Master System, Mega Drive, or some sort of computer (ZX Spectrum, C64, Amiga, etc.) until 5th gen made non-Sega consoles cool because someone decided to leave all of the good Saturn games in Japan.
  2. This was my guess as well. It works just fine on my CRT, as it should, but the OSSC hates it. I could/should just use the CRT, but I don't want to sit on my fake wood floor if I can avoid it, the CRT itself is not set up properly, the pincushion is off, the display is too low and too far to the left, it has a weird patch where the color doesn't display properly, and the remote for it won't let me fix anything other than rotation. So yeah, OSSC is sadly my best choice for now.
  3. Just got back. There are a stack of maybe 6-8 AES consoles, a whole ton of these and a good selection of games. Prices for games vary, but the Neo Geos were 42000~43000 yen each.
  4. Yeah, the Master System and PS2 slim are awesome! Look what I found in Super Potato today! Not for sale, but I asked the dude and he said it does work! They use it to check games that come in to make sure they work.
  5. Sure, and thanks. Mandarake's stuff is generally in better condition, though. C means it's basically spotless and A means it's basically mint condition... although I don't think I have seen many A grade things. I also get the feeling that some of the Super Potato staff members don't really like foreigners, and I generally get the feeling that, even though I can speak Japanese and I've been in there dozens of times and they know me, some of them still come across like "get out, foreigner, you're in the way" even if they don't actually say it. But some of them will actually talk to you if they are not busy and they occasionally get in some awesome hardware like an X68000 once as well as a Wondermega M2. I'm actually about to go there literally right now to get a new RF switch for my Intellivision since I think they actually stock them, unlike everywhere else in Akiba. Anyway, yeah, I have been wanting to get into Neo Geo for some time and actually funded Project Neon over on Kickstarter, so I guess I do actually have 1 thing for Neo Geo coming eventually. I'll let you guys know if I find something cool, but I generally don't check Neo Geo prices since I don't have one. Need to start remembering to do that from now on.
  6. Good... I think. Maybe not. I'm unsure. Anyway DLC is bad. Sequels are okay. So are complete games. Physical expansion packs are also somehow okay, but I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe because of Brood War. But maybe not.
  7. lol which one? I forgot to mention that if you open the Mega-CD Mini it has a little piece of cardboard with the motherboard printed on it and also Sonic CD. Let me see if I can find a picture of it on the internet. I can't open mine as my screwdriver doesn't fit. Here, not mine though:
  8. It's an official thing that you have to buy separately. https://www.amazon.co.jp/セガゲームス-メガドラタワー-ミニ/dp/B07SPZ2R4K/ref=sr_1_4?__mk_ja_JP=カタカナ&keywords=メガドライブミニ&qid=1582039632&sr=8-4 Never thought I'd spend 5000 yen on useless junk for a not great game system, but here we are and it was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!
  9. I have held one, but never used it. I saw a video of it playing a game on Youtube. Its transparency looks really cool with the disc spinning really fast! Too bad you can't really see through the PC Engine's CD ROM2 very well or the same would apply.
  10. This is kind of cheating, but I also really like the Japanese Mega Drive Mini. It's so cute next to the real thing! I bought it just for display because I'm a stupid Mega Driver and not rational. Too bad I ran out of space on my desk and had to kick it and the real MDCD32X off to make room for the PC Engine. Yes, my photography skills are terrible and so is my camera, but oh well.
  11. Vertical X68000 is damn sexy. N64... even the Pikachu one? I LOVE my PC Engine+CD ROM2+IFU! It's so cool! Too bad I have a CoreGrafx and not the white original. The mismatched colors don't work so well, but it's still awesome.
  12. Lol yeah the original PS1 is just a big grey box. The Skeleton Saturn is cool. In fact, it's so cool that it tells you that it's cool! Looks better in person, though.
  13. Yeah, the 5200 is awesome! Too bad the controller isn't very attractive. Also too bad everything these days looks like a damn VCR except the Switch.
  14. I can't hate the ViewMaster Interactive Vision because it looks like Legos + Rubix cube weirdness.
  15. Yeah, 70s consoles are super damn awesome, and after watching all of Star Trek a few times, I kind of like the fact that it's super no-budget 60s. I will admit to watching the new effects versions on the BD since Nimoy (still can't believe he's gone) changed his mind about them after seeing them, though. I did also see a few of those episodes in the theater in 2007 or 2008 though and it was awesome. Will eventually watch the original effects versions after I finish watching the TNG BDs for the 5th time. Just under halfway through now. I can't bring myself to call anything on that list ugly except the Telstar Arcade and the Genesis 2 set. Individually, the Genesis 2 is pretty good looking, but adding more stuff to it makes it looks not so great. Pikachu N64 is the absolute worst, though. Intellivision is super beautiful. Oops, forgot the Jag. Yeah, even that isn't ugly until you add the CD toilet, though.
  16. Beat Three Houses Crimson Flower maddening on a fresh save a few days ago and damn it felt good. It's really no more difficult than hard after chapter 2. If you can get through chapter 2 without anyone dying, you're good for the rest of the game. Of course the entire game is basically Curved Shot Simulator 2019 on maddening until you get Death Blow Hunter's Volley Bow Crit+10 Shamir. Now to play the other routes, as Silver Snow (hard pre-maddening) and Crimson Flower (pre-maddening hard and maddening) are the only ones I've done so far. Kind of shameful as I bought it about 3 days after launch, but I got burned out from 2 blind back-to-back playthoughs and didn't know Crimson Flower existed.
  17. I'm very interested in getting one of these awesome computers ever since I saw one in Super Potato a few months ago, but I know they fail quite easily. Has anyone here actually used/repaired one of these? How difficult is it to get parts or do repairs? I've built plenty of modern computers since 2007, but never worked on something this old before. Any advice would be great.
  18. Yes, computers are a part of it. I should hope so, as I mentioned the super awesome X68000 on page 1. PC is probably the most practical way to do X68000 anyway, given that the X68000 itself is old, expensive, and most of them are falling apart now. I doubt they make the parts to repair an old computer from 1987 anymore, so you'd have to salvage parts from other old computers or even other broken X68000s.
  19. 50% of those are beautiful, like the Intellivision, which I mentioned in my new thread about beautiful consoles and boxes. The other 70s consoles are also great aside from the Odyssey2, which wouldn't look out of place on the original Star Trek, but isn't repulsive. Pippin isn't so bad. If you told your ignorant friends that it's a modem, they'd believe you as long as they don't notice the disc drive or controller. Genesis 2 set is ugly. The Telstar Arcade, though, is what I had in mind the moment I saw this topic. Man that thing is hideous. Also the Pikachu N64 is super atrocious.
  20. That's a Mandarake price tag and QR code. Rule #1 of Akiba = stay away from Mandarake because it's a ripoff. I found a nicer and cheaper copy of Gleylancer at Super Potato of all places. Mandarake is by far the worst for prices. Super Potato is also a ripoff and definitely a tourist trap, but sometimes they have good deals. I found a working Mega-CD there for 10,000 yen before the MegaSD announcement, and even now they have the cheapest PC Engines in the whole town. Trader is probably the best overall for prices, though their Neo Geo section is pretty small.
  21. Yep, Toys R Us definitely had them on the hooks in glass cases. I remember well because my grandmother randomly bought me Jurassic Park for Genesis when we went to the Toys R Us in Anchorage together in like 1997, and it was definitely in the case. No shrinkwrapping. I already had Rampage Edition, but not the original. RIP grandma, RIP Toys R Us, and RIP Jurassic Park, which got thrown in the trash along with our mostly non-functioning Genesis 2 and my entire Genesis library when we moved across the country to save space. Now Comix Zone here in Japan costs over $1000 and I'm sad. Not sure about the pack-in games, though.
  22. I think we should have a "best looking video game systems and computers" thread as well, so I made one. We have one for ugly systems, we have one for overrated systems, and we have this one for underrated systems, so I think we should have one for good looking systems so everyone can talk about how beautiful the X68000 is. Everyone go here!
  23. Since we have threads for overrated, underrated, and ugly video game systems and computers, I think we should have one for beautiful systems like the X68000. I nominate the aforementioned X68000, maybe the Intellivision, and definitely the original white PC Engine. If you've ever seen a brand-new looking white PC Engine in person, you know that its pristine, radiant beauty is blinding, much like looking into the sun. At least that's how I felt when I saw Konami's brand-new looking one at Tokyo Game Show. Too bad I only have a CoreGrafx and now I'm sad. Also old video game boxes are great. I love them and so should you. I say Japanese Mega Drive, Neo Geo AES, and some of the X68000 boxes are excellent. I don't mean box art in general, but how the whole thing comes together to be beautiful, so box art + design of the box itself = overall presentation. Neo Geo AES definitely wins overall for boxes, though.
  24. So it was playable at one point? My friend always told me that he had played a demo, which I always said is impossible since a playable demo never existed. Or so I thought. I remember counting the days until release. Then a week prior to release, it would get delayed again, every time. Then the GameCube version got cancelled. Then it got delayed again and again and again and then 7th gen consoles released and the game vanished. At least Nova herself made it into StarCraft II, which is probably the single most disappointing game I have played in the past 2 decades. Actually, no, Samus Returns is just plain not a good game and worse than the original Metroid II, but still, StarCraft II has a whole lot of problems.
  25. Yeah, I have heard about those archives. I guess the incompleteness does depend on the game, so some of them don't have the multiplayer. That basketball game, though... terrifying. It's absolutely 2K's fault, though, since they could have not been super cheap and ordered a bigger capacity cart. From what I know, publishers have to go through Nintendo to place an order to have their game put on carts. I don't know if that's different from what M$ and Sony are doing since those are just Blu-rays, but Nintendo offers several cart sizes for sale and then they actually make the carts for you. I think. Default size is something that I don't know, but you can order bigger cart sizes, which obviously costs more money. I honestly don't pay much attention to most not-Japanese Switch titles, though, as those either don't appeal much to me or don't have real carts. I guess half-download games are getting worse with US publishers, though. Nintendo and the Japanese do not seem to have this problem yet, although companies like Koei Tecmo and Sega end up with DLC prices exceeding the base games' prices by a decent amount. Nothing that I know of is as bad as Train Simulator, though. Edit: Fantasy Grounds is worse.
