Oops, I forgot to mention that passthrough mode absolutely does not work on my monitor, so I'm not sure if it will work out. 5X doesn't work, either. I only have 4 32X games, but I do have the rest on the MegaSD and I have not tested everything yet. I basically found that you have to configure the OSSC to either play 32X games or MD/Genesis games, and that settings for one will always cause the other to look horrible. I'd like to just leave the thing attached, but it's pretty annoying because of that and if I could get some settings just for 32X games, I'd be satisfied with having to remove it to get good video from my Mega Drive for those games.

After Burner Complete and Space Harrier, mostly, especially Space Harrier's menu. For After Burner Complete, it's like looking through a partially focused telescope. Either the F14 is sharp and clear and the crosshair thing is blurry as hell or the crosshair is sharp and everything else is blurry as hell. Also the missiles at the bottom of the screen like to flicker a whole ton. Kolibri is mainly okay. I have not tested everything and I am using a Japanese Super 32X, so there are a few games that I can't play at all like Star Trek and of course Darxide.

Yeah, it got posted just before I mentioned the Nomad. We are still missing the game.com, Game & Watch (if that counts), Mega Jet (not sure if this counts), PC Engine GT, and the WonderSwan! Maybe also the Neo Geo Pocket (Color). I don't think anyone cares about the game.com, though, mainly because it's bad. Handhelds in general have this negative image of being "just handhelds" but I generally prefer them over consoles. The Nomad is a bit of an outlier, though, since it's a handheld conversion of an already existing system, in this case the Genesis 2. And I do mean the Genesis 2, not the Mega Drive 2. Same for PC Engine GT. I would absolutely mention the PC Engine GT as well, but it can't play CD games... yet. Some Japanese dude is working on a way to play CD games on the PC Engine GT and I will absolutely buy one when his project is finished. Edit: holy crap the PSP go. I have mine sitting directly in front of my keyboard on its dock, so I have no excuse. This is also first mention of the PSP in general.

Sealed Sonic The Hedgehog Not For Resale
Steven Pendleton replied to Deadeye008's topic in Sega Genesis
It's the not for resale version, which means it was the pack-in game inside a Genesis system box and not sold separately, so it actually does make some sense in this case. I honestly don't remember ever seeing a shrinkwrapped Genesis game back then, but maybe I'm wrong. In Japan they put MD games in sealed plastic bags, but those can be resealed and it's very difficult to tell if the case itself has been opened. Same with US games. Honestly it seems fake, mainly because I am ignorant and can't remember. -
When did they start selling incomplete games?
Steven Pendleton replied to Keatah's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
My Wii is hacked. It's been hacked since like 2009. It's just a pain to take it out and set it up, especially since I'd either have to use the OSSC and balance the sensor bar on top of my monitor, which is thinner than the sensor bar itself, or sit on the fake wood floor to use my CRT. Besides, I prefer to do stuff legitimately if I can. -
Yeah, you really do need the original system if you want to experience the Vectrex the way it's supposed to be played. Unfortunately, they are now quite expensive and I can use that money to pay for either a month's worth of food or maybe even an entire month of rent, depending on if it's CIB or has games/overlays included or whatever.
-
I REALLY want a Vectrex but they are so expensive. Emulation doesn't really have the same feeling for it, either, from what I have heard, so I have not messed with it on MiSTer yet. Need the original system. That and the X68000. I think Vectrex isn't so much underrated as it is obscure. Most people who know that it exists will probably tell you that it's awesome.

When I got my Vita at Japanese launch, the only game I got was Uncharted. That runs in your system's default language if available, so mine ran in English. The Vita is truly amazing and nobody cared about it online. Funny thing is that I see more Vitas in public now than 3DS, although the Switch and cellphones are the primary. Vita still has games releasing for it as well, unlike 3DS. I'd say the Vita actually outlived it. Speaking of underrated handhelds, Sega Nomad! I just got mine on January 1 and it's awesome! It has the single best library of any handheld EVER! Sure the screen sucks and is somehow worse than the PC Engine GT's screen, which came out 5 years earlier, and the battery also sucks since it dies in under 2 hours, but when you can plug it into the wall AND your TV/OSSC/Framemeister or get an RGB screen for it, who cares?

When did they start selling incomplete games?
Steven Pendleton replied to Keatah's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Wii digital games are all gone now, so if you don't have them already on your system, you can never get them. I just started playing Castlevania in late January 2019. Guess I'm never playing Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth, since that was Wii digital only. -

I think with the half-complete Switch games what happens is you put the cart in and then you have to download whatever is missing and that goes on either the system memory or the SD card. I don't have any of those games because none of them are the type that I care about, so I don't know. I think there is some basketball game that is like this. If it was NBA Jam, I'd know more, but it isn't since they don't make NBA Jam anymore, so I don't. Yep, it seems no internet = no game even for physical. -

Nintendo Play Station Auction
Steven Pendleton replied to Trinity's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Maybe we should convince Tommy to buy it. That said, I think it's basically like the PC Engine's CD games where all it does is add more storage space, not extra processing power like the Sega/Mega-CD, so the most it could do is basically what we have now with the MSU-1 on the SD2SNES. Maybe I'm wrong. Someone who cares more than I do will surely tell me later if I am wrong. Or maybe not. -
It would absolutely work in theory since 8Bit doo doo makes a Bluetooth adaptor for the Bluetooth version of the M30, but there is no customizable button mapping anywhere on the system for anything. You have to hold a button and then hit the d-pad to register the number pad. Super annoying, so I gave up. From the manual: Although the Mega Sg uses 9-pin controller ports, ColecoVision controllers use a slightly different pin-assignment and are not supported. The Passthrough Mode option is removed for this Core as a result. The ColecoVision uses a hand controller consisting of an eight-way joystick, two fire buttons and a 12-key “telephone-style” keypad. The joystick is mapped to the D-pad of a Genesis controller as follows : A = Left Side Fire B = Right Side Fire In order to support the keypad buttons, directional and button combinations are used with a Six Button Genesis controller. Here are the combinations : Y + Up = 0 Y + Right = 1 Y + Down = 2 Y + Left = 3 Z + Up = 4 Z + Right = 5 Z + Down = 6 Z + Left = 7 Y + Z + Up = 8 Y + Z + Down = 9 X = # C = * Start = 1 (duplicated for starting an easier game in games with a difficulty selection option) Mode = 3 (duplicated for starting a harder game in games with a difficulty selection option)

Yeah, don't expect this to ever happen. In fact, expect it to never happen. Genesis/Mega Drive can't even run F16 Fighting Falcon, which means ColecoVision won't happen at all because of the thing with needing the Mark III stuff to run F16 Fighting Falcon... or ColecoVision, in theory. And as has already been noted, have fun with the controller. ColecoVision is basically unplayable on the Mega Sg and I gave up after maybe 20 seconds. You'd need an adaptor to get a ColecoVision controller to work, even on the Mega Sg, because the pin layout is different, even if they both use the DE-9.

Sealed Sonic The Hedgehog Not For Resale
Steven Pendleton replied to Deadeye008's topic in Sega Genesis
You mean this one that sold for $1000? https://www.ebay.com/itm/SEALED-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-Sega-Genesis-Not-For-Resale-VERY-RARE-Complete/283785339998?hash=item4212eca45e:g:e-AAAOSwNhNeRjup Precedent has now been set, so now others will follow. Yay, Mega Drive Tetris for $1 million USD... good luck with a complete Mega Drive set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/130545774269#ht_500wt_1202 -
Is it actually possible to run 32X games through the OSSC and not have a ton of flickering? No matter what timings I set it to, something somewhere on the screen is always trying to flicker out of existence. Low pass filter helps greatly for some things while breaking others, and after checking every single setting for the H. samplerate individually, I still have not found one that actually looks good.

Turbografx 16 mini
Steven Pendleton replied to Sinjinhawke's topic in TG-16/PC Engine High Score Club
I tried the Mega Drive Mini controller on the MiSTer and it works perfectly. It will not allow me to set a menu button combination, so you will probably have to press the button like I do. I imagine the TurboPC Core EngineGrafx Mini controller will probably work the same way. The biggest problem with this is that there is no Avenue Pad 3 option for it. That's the best PC Engine controller and the Shuttle controller is #2, and I wish there was a USB version for both of those. Oh well. It will be perfect for the other 8-bit systems on MiSTer and since MiSTer has no PC Engine CD support yet, I have no reason to use MiSTer over the real thing right now. By the time it does have CD support, I should have the BlisSTer and adaptors so I can use the Avenue Pad 3 or Shuttle controller. -
Like I said in another thread someplace (I think the Amico discussion), Japan is the only country to get the entire libraries of both the N64 and the Saturn. Japan is also the only place where the Saturn outsold the N64. Not a coincidence. I am looking at buying my friend's extra Saturn, and I have never played it before, so I am looking forward to it.
-
Yeah, the PC Engine kicked ass, and it deserves all of the praise that it gets. It's very sad that everyone outside Japan only knows it as "the system with Rondo of Blood". I only got mine maybe 3 months ago and only got my SSDS3 in late December, so I'm still learning about it and its library, but it's extremely impressive so far, and I recognize that it's a very excellent system that deserved to do better internationally before it got killed by NEC's own incompetence.

Turbografx 16 mini
Steven Pendleton replied to Sinjinhawke's topic in TG-16/PC Engine High Score Club
Sure. I'd say get it if you just want the controller, then. It does look pretty nice, but that's about all it does. The controllers are decent. D-pad is a bit squishy, though. I bought mine mostly for display, but then I ran out of room on my desk, so I put it away. Here's a picture of them together. You know what? I have never tried the controller for it on the MiSTer (which sits in from of my Super Nt, but obviously didn't make it into this photo. It's just barely out of the frame). I'm using the 2.4GHz Saturn controller (which is over there sitting on top of the clear SN30 and next to the M30 2.4g and the Mega Sg) and it works more or less. Having difficulty binding buttons with it, though, and I have to actually hit the button on the MiSTer itself to get back to the menu. Also feels really strange playing SFC/SNES with a Saturn controller. -
Lots. Keep in mind, that's probably counting global sales, and unlike the other 4th gen systems, Nintendo continued to count and report SFC and SNES sales until like 2000 or something. Had Sega continued to do the same with the Mega Genesis Drive, I expect that it would probably have reported sales figures beyond the SNES's global lifetime sales thanks to Brazil. Edit: Oops. It was only until 1992. I was wrong again. That's what I get for going entirely from memory. https://vgsales.fandom.com/wiki/Fourth_generation_of_video_games And wouldn't you know, estimates place the Mega Genesis Drive above the SFC/SNES. Not sure how reliable this is, though, and they are also including CD and 32X.

PC Engine outsold the Famicom, Mark III, Master System, Mega Drive, and even the Super Famicom during the time when they were all on the market together between 1987-1994 when the PC Engine was discontinued. I don't mean in total since the Famicom demolished everything until the PS2 and the SFC eventually caught up to and surpassed the PC Engine near the end (it was pretty close, even then), just that the PC Engine sold better during those years. PC Engine absolutely deserved to, as well, since the PC Engine is incredible. Interesting that the first 4th gen system to launch in both the US and Japan absolutely crushed the second 4th gen system to launch in both the US and Japan. It's almost like that thing called first mover advantage really exists! So yes, I meant globally, not Japan. Here it doesn't count since everyone loves it, and rightfully so!
