March 2023 shooting HSC: Zero Wing
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Sega Genesis
Alright, looks like we are done with Zero Wing. I have been busy with work and haven't had time to really sit down with it, sadly. In any case, with Frozone/Trinity gone and that vote being removed, we have a tie. I'm breaking that tie by voting for Koutetsu Teikoku! So yeah, it's still 3-2 Koutetsu Teikoku in the end lol. See you over there! I'll try to be a bit more active this time. -
Sorry, I had work all day yesterday, so we'll let this one run for an extra day to make up for it. Granada will still start on schedule on the 1st of May, but Koutetsu Teikoku will run until the 2nd. I know basically nothing about this game, which is a big part of why it got selected for this HSC, so yeah, let's do it. Apparently this game is like an hour long, which I did not know until just now, so have fun with that! This might actually be the longest game we play this year, as it's longer than Zero Wing. Sorry... Submit scores in the following format: NAME - SCORE - STAGE - VERSION Pretty sure this game does not loop, so if you get the 1CC, put ALL as your stage number. If it does, let me know and we will do the typical (loop number)-(stage number), but I should hopefully have some time to actually get some time with this game, as I will likely be super busy with work for the foreseeable future. Unsure if this game has any regional differences, so for now I will treat them equally. So yeah, if I was to 1CC the Japanese version, I would do something like Steven - 1234567890 - ALL - Japan

Mario is Missing, but Sonic is dead. Sega once again does what Nintendon't. Have a free game where Sonic dies (for the second time, but let's not talk about the first time). https://store.steampowered.com/app/2324650/_/

WTF 400GB?! That leaves only like 287GB or something, right? That's really bad. I also noticed that my controller seems to have coil whine. Never had that on a controller before that I can remember. Not really a big deal, but that's probably about as unexpected as the "other" storage being so large.

Not much here. R-Type Final 3 Evolved is here, which is not to be confused with R-Type Final 2, which is the same game, but R-Type Final 2 will eventually become R-Type Final 3, but it won't become Evolved, which is separate. Are you confused yet? PC Andro Dunos II - 96 PS4 Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition - 1,239 Kangokutou Mary Skelter 2 - 273 Sonic Colors: Ultimate - 105 PS5 R-Type Final 3 Evolved - 540

9 years... I haven't really been playing the Neo Geo a whole lot recently, but I did manage to get some time with Andro Dunos a few days ago, and I don't mean that disappointing Dreamcast thing. I might try for the 1CC, but that game is actually significantly more difficult than it seems like it might be. -
There's no way to get rid of the "other" storage without a reformat, right? Somehow I have 85.98GB of this. I wonder where it comes from. I had a lot of "other" storage on my 64GB Vita memory card shortly before it died and there was no way to get rid of that, but in that case that was the memory card itself going bad.

Lots of Idol Manager. After playing it this much, I can definitely say it's a super unbalanced mess where you'll have so much money that you have to actively try to lose. It's also very glitchy, and the Switch version suffers from really bad slowdown and stuttering, which make it harder to play than it should be. I don't know about this game... Damn it, time zones. Mid-April is the next batch, it seems. I hope I remember. Someone remind me or something. -
March 2023 shooting HSC: Zero Wing
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Sega Genesis
I need to get back to this. I am still hoping to get some decent time with it and hopefully get the normal difficulty clear by the end of the month. Looks like Frozone/Trinity got banned for some reason (making multiple accounts?), so I guess we'll toss out Frozone's/Trinity's vote from Koutetsu Teikoku; with this in consideration, that's a total of 2 votes for Koutetsu Teikoku, not 3, as of this post. Good thing I made the votes visible, although I was not expecting to use this function this way. I've played Koutetsu Teikoku for about 15~20 minutes about 3 or 4 years ago, but I have never played Battle Mania at all, so I have no idea how that game is, but Koutetsu Teikoku is good. It also has some of the coolest box art on the Japanese Mega Drive, which collectively has better box art than any other system ever, so you know it's really good. -
The Official Sega Saturn Thread!
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, you have to be careful when you buy cables for that reason. I know the HD Retrovision cable is good, but it's a Genesis 2/Mega Drive 2 cable anyway if you want to be technical. It uses a regenerated clock to do... something. I honestly have absolutely no idea what the hell that means, but that's what it does, apparently. It does seem that it affects my Dreamcast as well, so it's probably something to do with my monitor and nothing else. Gen lock does seem to prevent the signal dropping when switching resolutions in my case, but it seems that it varies on the display you use. I only have one HDMI display, a PC monitor, so I can't test it on anything else. It also has less lag than the triple buffer, but I guess it has compatibility problems, so triple buffer and/or frame lock are generally going to be more compatible. -

I finally got my Dreamcast Andro Dunos a few minutes ago. Unfortunately the sound emulation is not good. The music is pretty much broken, with it sounding strange in places and the tempo fluctuating wildly. They didn't even bother to add autofire, so playing it with a regular controller is miserable since you have no choice but to button mash your way through the game. Don't waste your money on this. Yeah, it's a really nice controller. I might try to get it working on the MiSTer, but we'll see. -
The Official Sega Saturn Thread!
Steven Pendleton replied to Steven Pendleton's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I tried the Gen Lock thing on the RetroTINK 5x recently to see what it does and it seems that it breaks the audio on my Saturn. Not sure if this is unique to my setup, but in case someone else tries it and has audio problems, no, your Saturn is (probably) not dying; try the other modes instead to see what happens. -
No, it's because Naka bullied Yasuhara into quitting. I see you haven't played Sonic 1, 2, 3&K, CD, Mania, and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed if you (incorrectly) think that all Sonic games suck. Special mention for Sonic R for being so incredibly bad that it's absolutely amazing, and one of the best/worst Sonic games ever, and one of my favourites. Everyone NEEDS to play Sonic R.

I forgot he's been working on that. There's been no word on Slap Fight 3671 for a long time, with the last mention of it that I remember being on some podcast. That was maybe a year ago, so it's possible that this new Slap Fight is dead by now. He said something about music licensing causing the delay or something like that, but it's been a while and I forgot exactly what he said.

Neo Geo CD controller is one of the most awesome controllers you'll ever use. They require some maintenance to keep them functioning properly, unfortunately, but it's not too bad. The clicky stick is up there with the Saturn and Vita d-pads as being one of the top 3 best in history.
