  1. I never said that Chaotix is worse than Sonic 06, and it isn't. Sonic 06 is a broken wreck, and that provides entertainment. Chaotix is simply boring. Does it have interesting level design? No. Is it difficult? No. It can't have a proper difficulty curve because the stages are random. Does it have interesting glitches? Well, it has **********, but that's about it. You do know about **********, right? Does it have awesome music and some good animations? Yes. That's about it. The game is unremarkable and inoffensive, but it doesn't actually bother to do anything, and being boring is a greater failure than being a broken and glitchy pile of trash.
  2. No, it isn't. I would rather play Sonic 06 than that dreck.
  3. Basically some things would be rendered by the CD hardware and some by the regular system. Shin Megami Tensei is a good example; some of the music is CDDA but some (most? It's been a while since I played this version) of it uses the YM2612/YM3438. Pretty sure it's not actually using the Ricoh sound chip, but I'd have to play it again to find out. There is not an especially large amount of games that actually take advantage of the hardware scaling and rotation, which is why you end up with things like the CD version of Road Rash basically just being the same as the cartridge versions, complete with choppy software scaling instead of delicious hardware scaling, but with CDDA instead of FM synth. You'll have to play Soul Star or something to see the hardware scaling.
  4. R-Gear is here! It was never finished, but M2 released the prototype this week. It's probably just running on regular emulation or something, but it's still M2 ShotTriggers, so I'm putting it here in case M2 did something to it. PC Idol Manager - 49 I alpha tested this game in 2019 and even then I thought it was very poorly and clumsily designed. Now that it's been officially released for a year and a half, I see that not much has changed, even on the original PC version. It I want to like it, but... KAMUI - 46 Out Zone - 17 PS4 Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition - 811 Kanda Alice mo Suiri Suru. - 1 I have been testing this on PS5 since last week (yeah, I forgot about this last time), mostly because it seems to crash upon launching about 1/3 of the time for no reason. Looks like it has compatibility problems for sure. I still need to actually play this version eventually. Kangokutou Mary Skelter 2- 476 Still playing this just as an excuse to test the capability of the PS5. It really does make a massive difference in performance here. Love Live! School Idol Festival ~after school ACTIVITY~ Wai-Wai!Home Meeting!! - 422 Yes, it's back. I might finally actually buy some more songs for this game so I'm not stuck playing the same 6 songs over and over again. It's a good game aside from the ridiculous DLC. R-Gear - 11 Ray'z Arcade Chronology - 120 Too lazy to track everything separately, and I'm just using the PS5's super inaccurate time thingy instead of being more specific. M2 made new versions of both RayStorm and RayCrisis just for this collection, but RayForce is still the reason you will want to buy this. Sennou Game Teki-Paki - 10 Sonic Colors: Ultimate - 54 Another excuse to check out the power of the PS5. Not much changes here, though. Still not sure if I actually like this game or not, but leaning towards not. Switch Idol Manager - 151 So apparently this game doesn't pause if you put it in sleep mode, so if you play for 1 minute before putting it in sleep mode for a day, it will say you've played for 24 hours and 1 minute when you turn the system back on. This is partially a guess as to how long I played it because this happened. I am not sure if I will play this here so I can be lazy and play it in bed or on PC so I can avoid the awful controls on Switch. R-Gear - 8 Ray'z Arcade Chronology - 60
  5. No Memodama this time. I somehow beat my old high score in Slap Fight without practicing. Nothing else notable. Arcade Fighting Hawk - 12 Hishouzame - 26 Out Zone - 20 Raiden (Japan) - 7 Slap Fight - 66 32X Chaotix - 18 I started playing this and then it crashed and I didn't go back to it later. Terrible game, though.
  6. The best Mega Drive I have ever used is still the Mega Jet, which is technically a Mega Drive 2. The video quality is almost as good as the Mega Sg, as it has some very slight jailbars, but only in very specific colors like light brown, and the audio is insane. Everybody always says the Mega Drive 2 sucks, but that's because they haven't played the Mega Jet. It can even do Mark III and Master System games and also CD audio from the MegaSD without any mods, unlike the Nomad. The thing is a beast, but actually playing it gets awkward after a while.
  7. I have a feeling that all of these probably contributed. Typical EA being EA. Still better than Activision, though. Maybe I'm thinking of something else...
  8. Yes, long game is long. I think it's going to take about 45 minutes to beat the game, although I forgot if that is the no miss time or not. Best thing to do is to use a bunch of continues and stuff to get there if you need to and then make save states to practice. Stage 7 is the hardest one in the game, with stage 8 coming in a pretty close second, followed by stage 5, and then stage 6.
  9. Don't forget to play Out Zone after you play Metal Slug! It has everything you ever need and it's actually very easy, at least for an arcade game. Just don't play the Steam/GOG releases right now because they... well, they have very many problems right now.
  10. I'd rather not... That's more my style! It's very disappointing that they didn't use any of the hardware scaling on the CD version. Soul Star is one of the best-looking games on the system and it heavily uses the hardware scaling abilities, but here they just seemed to recycle the cartridge versions' software scaling. I wonder if they spent all of their money on the licensed music and decided to save what money they could by recycling the cartridge versions' code and calling it good. Road Rash has the potential to be really good if it wasn't so choppy, but I do give 2 some extra points for having Alaska as a playable area, especially since it's the best one in the game. My beloved home state doesn't really show up in games that often, so I generally enjoy seeing it on the rare occasion that it does. I also discovered that some of the creators made a new game, Road Redemption, which looks pretty decent.
  11. I've been considering hacking my Wii U to use it as a no-mod HDMI Gamecube. If you have a Wii U you can try that as well, but it can't run Gamecube games from the discs, just from disc images, but that might be considered an upgrade anyway since you won't have to worry about old optical media.
  12. My attitude is not "shitty", I am a realist and a Sonic fanboy, so when I see a bad game I call it bad, but have it your way. I regret saying anything to you. If you don't like my opinions, I'll make sure that I don't talk to you by mistake, so you can join Kirk on my ignore list. I'll take you both off in a year or so.
  13. Damn it I was playing it on the MiSTer and it crashed. I guess I will have to set up the real thing and do it there. Yes, I'm playing as Charmy because he breaks the game and makes it less miserable.
  14. And what about those that finish the game and still declare it to be the garbage that it is? What the hell. I'm going to play Chaotix again. I have heard that basically anything can cause you to go into shock, so just remember that if I get so bored with this awful game that I go into shock and die that it's your fault.
  15. Damn, that thing is like twice the price I thought it was going to be. If you have an RGB modded PC Engine this thing will be super awesome, but if you don't you might as well throw in the extra $10 or whatever and get the SHDS3 Pro and get the RGB mod, native HDMI out in case you want HDMI, and the SuperGrafx emulation.
  16. Remove all of the analog stick components and only use them for 2D games.
  17. December. It's coming. There is no better way to test how much you have improved over the course of the year than to play the hardest game on the system and see how far you get. I measured the horizontal speed of the helicopter in arcade Kyuukyoku Tiger recently. I forget exactly, but it's like 1 pixel per frame for 2 frames and then 2 pixels on the third frame. The helicopter in Twin Cobra is significantly faster, but Kyuukyoku Tiger is way better than Twin Cobra is to such a ridiculous extent that I don't really have much of a desire to play Twin Cobra. As for Slap Fight, just grab a few speed powerups and the time it takes for you to move across the screen will be measured in frames instead of seconds. If you don't play those games at max speed you're not going to survive beyond loop 4. I really need to start playing the arcade version again, but I do have a mission to get the 1CC on MD Zero Wing on normal, which I do not think I have ever done. Best I ever did on normal was to game over on the final boss. BTW I hope nobody has to recover at the beginning of stage 8. Recovering on stage 7 is harder, especially at a few checkpoints before the halfway point, but the beginning of stage 8 is an extremely bad place to die.
  18. 1985~2000 or so, really. I don't know why. I don't think about it other than "these games make my brain feel happy and modern games usually don't because they are mostly worse". Some exceptions exist, of course; everyone needs to go play Sonic Mania since it's pretty much the best game released in the past 20 years.
  19. Let me know when they fix MD/Genesis Road Rash so it runs faster than 12FPS. Then they will be good. Having not-terrible music would also help. The compositions are fine, but they clearly didn't know how to use the system's sound capabilities properly.
  20. Once again, I forgot something. PS4 Love Live! School Idol Festival ~after school ACTIVITY~ Wai-Wai!Home Meeting!! - 5 This game has a lot of loading screens for some reason, so playing it on the PS5 really help since basically everything is instantaneous. I think I might actually start playing this game again, or at least I would if I didn't have to pay like 30,000 yen to get all of the songs that I don't have.
  21. I have added a poll to the OP, so go ahead and vote for whatever you want to play next month! The poll will automatically commit suicide on the 1st at 0000 GMT (provided I made it correctly lol), so be sure to vote before then! Like I said before, I will abstain unless there is a tie. Yeah no. Just keep practicing. This game is pretty easy, to the point where most of the people that I talk to who play shooting games find it so incredibly easy that it is boring, so they don't play it. lol that's what I was talking about~ I recently got a 1CC the brutal arcade version, which is pretty legendary for savagely beating the crap out of players, and it's probably the hardest game I've ever beaten in my life, but I find the MD conversion to be even harder than the arcade version. I normally game over somewhere on stage 2 on this. This is considerably more accurate to the arcade version than the PC Engine version, but they didn't really adjust anything to compensate for the change in screen size, so you'll get pointblanked by pretty much everything. Wait until the Otakebi on stage 5 show up... Yeah, there really isn't a noticeable difference at all. It probably makes a difference once you get to stage 6 or 7, and even more likely once you finish stage 8 and play the second loop, but it's pretty much the same otherwise as far as I have seen.
  22. I got a PS5 for some reason, so I ended up testing a bunch of PS4 games to see how they benefit from the extra Blast ProcessingTM. Interesting results overall. I also was kind of lost for what to do after finishing Valkyria Chronicles 4 and ended up waffling around without committing to anything until I discovered that I somehow had a game that I didn't know that I had. PC Crisis Wing - 32 Crystar - 10 Death Stranding Director's Cut - 260 Kyuukyoku Tiger/Twin Cobra - 9 Out Zone - 1 Spy Bros. (Pipi & Bibi's DX) - 7 Valkyria Chronicles 4 Complete Edition - 21 Zero Wing - 24 PS4 Blue Reflection - 20 Runs WAY better on PS5. Normally it runs terribly, but not here. If you are going to play this trash game, PS5 is probably a decent (the best?) way to do it... but don't play this trash game. Blue Reflection TIE - 5 Its predecessor has an unlocked framerate, but this is locked to 30FPS. Forget the console versions and play it on PC. Unlike its predecessor, this game is actually not complete trash and is actually good! Yay~ Flowers Les Quatre Saisons - 2 Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition - 393 Apparently I have this game. I have no idea how or when I got it, but I did, and it was apparently free, so I guess I am playing this now. Yay, free things~ It got a Special PS5 PatchTM that adds Blast ProcessingTM, so it runs basically flawlessly on PS5, but it's still a PS4 game. The animations look really weird sometimes. Kangokutou Mary Skelter 2 - 43 Runs flawlessly on PS5; like Blue Reflection, it runs horribly on PS4 but has an unlocked framerate, and the PS5 has was more than enough power to run this game perfectly. Kangokutou Mary Skelter Finale - 5 Same as its predecessor, although they actually bothered to optimize this for PS4, so instead of being a ridiculously massive and game-changing upgrade, it is simply a big upgrade. Sennou Game Teki-Paki - 7 Sonic Colors: Ultimate - 65 Apparently the only differences on PS5 are that it loads super fast and the framerate is more stable or something. I looked up the differences, but I forgot what else there was. Super Stardust Ultra - 120 Valkyria Chronicles - 5 PS5 Astro's Playroom - 124 It's the nicest tech demo I've ever played. Way better than the lame Welcome Park thing on the Vita, and unlike with Welcome Park, you can actually delete this to save space on your system! It's a nice game and the PS5 has basically no other exclusives, though, so you probably won't want to delete it. Relayer Trial Version (demo) - 9 Yep, it's Relayer, and it's on PS5.
