A bit late the party, but I ordered my copy this morning from Songbird Productions. There's something about new games for old consoles that I like - and I haven't played a game like this for a long time, so I'm sure it'll be an enjoyable play through.

I was thinking - has anyone ever created a patch for Tempest 2000 that adds a sensitivity bar for the rotary controller? As much as I like using the rotary controller for playing one of the best games of all time, the default (only) setting is very sensitive - and a mod could fix that, I think. No programming experience myself, unfortunately.

Just completed Asteroite, 100%, and can confirm there are 32 missiles to collect (not 33). This was my first playthrough. I enjoyed it a lot and I honestly could not fault the graphics, gameplay, sound, or the difficulty curve. I love games of this genre and it's so good that Phoboz et al. and Songbird made it happen. Excellent work to everyone involved, a brilliant game!

Thank you, I will order and report back.
Ok I got two of those VGA cables off eBay for £10, and can confirm they did not work. Furthermore, when I tested them, the power light on the Jaguar started flashing, and then it went off completely. Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any damage to the console, as when the controller without the extension was returned it booted-up fine again. Rather than risk frying my Jaguar, I think I'll just sit closer to the TV, until such time as when dedicated extension cables are available in the UK.
(I have used a Team Tap as a little extension cable before, but it's not ideal).

Not guaranteed to work, since it's sold as a VGA extension cable and some of them don't have all pins wired. But it's pretty cheap, so I'd say it's worth a try.
Thank you, I will order and report back.

Jumping ahead to 2023, I need a couple of good controller extension cables for the Atari Jaguar.
I live in the UK. There is a seller in the US on eBay, but with postage we're looking at £45 ($56). A bit steep, can anyone recommend a UK seller? Thank you.

Wow. I think the music fits the game perfectly....
Agreed, the soundtrack is very catchy and suits the gameplay. The whole game is top notch.

This is something we will be working on for games in the store once I've moved the store to new software (which has much better support for purchases of digital goods). Lawrence and I have discussed making his games available in this fashion, probably starting with older games first.

Excellent, thank you. I do love physical carts as well, so maybe something like a two-year exclusivity for the physical releases, before the ROM is made available for sale? Just a thought, no more.

Will the full Gravitic Mines ROM ever be available as a paid-for download? I recently picked-up Alice's Mom's Rescue and Escape 2042 from the Orion website for my GameDrive (both excellent games). I would love be able to add Gravitic Mines to my digital collection - one day. Thanks.
Ok I gave up on this request and bought the game from the Atari Age store. What an amazing game, I am so pleased I did. I'm currently nearing the end of the second world.

I got some repros off eBAY (UK). They work fine for me, but I can't say how they compare to the originals as I don't own any (anymore).
Bob also did this video a few years ago, which is worth a watch:

I loved Wyvern Tales so much I completed the full Bug Hunt. Now, I am really looking forward to the sequel! This is a cool announcement, thank you.

Thanks! Have you played the Gravitic Mines demo too?
Yes, I played the demo, loved it, and promptly ordered the full game (currently on its way here from Atari Age, thank you). Earlier this year I got the rotary controller mod. Gravitic Mines works brilliantly with it, insofar as I got with the demo. I can't wait for the full game to arrive. My experience of this game genre is limited to the AstroLander Easter Egg on TimeSpitters 2, and the similar level from The Incredible Crash Dummies (of all things) on the DMG Gameboy 🚀

I see JaS isn't due for another 6 months. I may just order Last Strike while I'm waiting. So, first impressions - Last Strike, a little tricky at first like all good shoot-em-ups, but enough there to make me want to get good at it. Meanwhile JaS is an absolutely beautiful game that wouldn't look out of place on modern hardware. I also love the gameplay and music. Reviewers are going to rave about JaS when it's published. Thank you so much for these games and demos. I love playing new games for old consoles 🙂

I have just downloaded the demos for this and Jumping at Shadows PRGE 2022. When that's finished, I'll order the retail copies of both at the same time.

The music bars and ink spills are slippery in the PS1 and Saturn versions. That alone makes the game extremely frustrating to play, although the level design even in the Jag version indicates that they were intended to be slippery from the start (the platforms appear to be designed with that in mind). There are also some level design differences. The part of band land with the trumpet creatures that blow you around is one are that is different in the PS1 version, and it's also incredibly frustrating because they knock you back and forth while you try to grab onto the edge of the platforms, which is already fairly imprecise. If you make one mistake, you fall back down the "well" you're trying to climb out of and you have to do it again.
There's also a section in the caves where you have to use your helicopter hair to cut through some ropes holding up a platform. That never made it into the Jag version.
The controls seem pretty crappy in the Playstation port compared with the Jag, but maybe that's just me. Even in the parts that are the same, I struggle in the Playstation version. In the PS1 port, I've never made it past the area where Mr. Stone chases you through the level. But I've beaten the Jag version a few times.
And like you mentioned, the audio is different. This is probably the Jaguar fanboy in me talking, but I absolutely prefer the Jag's midi tracks to the CD versions on the PS1. The Jaguar tunes are much more melodic. The PS1's are ambient. There's plenty of good uses for ambient music, but playing Rayman on the PS1 makes me miss the hummable melodies of the Jaguar version.
Ok you convinced me it is best to the leave the Jaguar version alone!

A patch for AvP so the shoulder buttons on the pro controller make you strafe would be cool.
This is a great suggestion! Controversial, but I would also remove the floor damage caused by dead Aliens. This is annoying, especially when it is unavoidable.

An even bigger question than that is: are most of the broken games on the Jag worth the effort it would take someone with the necessary skills to patch them?
Well that's the question really. Plenty of people do patch the 16 bit games, but I guess a) they have many more active modders, and b) I am guessing it is likely to be easier than hacking Jaguar games.

I think adding a generous life bar to Bubsy would be an improvement.

Is there a list of suggested improvement patches for Atari Jaguar games? For example:
Cannon Fodder / Syndicate / Theme Park - add mouse support
Checkered Flag - increase framerate (probably by reducing trackside scenery)
Doom - add music, missing maps, Cyberdemon and Spiderdemon from the PC original
International Sensible Soccer - reduce the difficulty level, add real names to the 60hz version
Rayman - add additions that were made to PS1 version
Worms - add save game function
Etc.
Are there any other requests that could be added to this wish list?
-
I do appreciate your interest, thanks. The brown cardboard was present, but it was not quite aligned properly after the mod. I put the extra piece of paper on top of the cardboard, to make sure it won't stray out of position again.

I would urge @Songbird to seriously think about making ROMs available for download, a year or so after physical release.
(Since Carl's also got the rights to Battlemorph, I would love to see that game available as a ROM, since I don't own a Jaguar CD).
-
Is there any chance the Asteroite ROM and MRQ file will be available as a paid download, for GameDrive owners?
-
Such a good idea to sell the ROM and MRQ files for GameDrive owners. It would be great if other exceptional homebrew games were available like this.

New Puzzle Game Block'em Sock'em for the Atari Jaguar. Free Download!
in Atari Jaguar

This is awesome! I will give this rom a play this evening. One request though is for the MRQ file to go with it, as and when someone has the time to create it? I'm not able to myself, sorry, hence seeing if anyone else can put something together. Many thanks in advance. I will enjoy the game in the meantime - thanks to The Immortal John Hancock!! Will grab some popcorn 🍿
