  1. Well, I got the farthest I ever got on this game, however, there was a wierd glitch that got me there. I got to the third boss with a full powered laser and three homing missles, which is absolutely the weapons you need to take on the bosses. THe boss looks like a battleship. Any way, I waste the boss in a few seconds without using a bomb. Didn't lose a single Raiden in doing so. The next level had NO ENEMIES whatsoever. I was flying over a blank landscape and space scene with no enemies in sight. I did not see the boss ship, but I got a end level and bonus. BTW, what is the fourth level boss? I found out that Raiden only has four levels as the game goes back to the first level again, The glitch still was working as I was flying over the first level with no enemies. Picked up an end level and bonus. I started getting the enemies again at the second (fifth) level, but with my souped up laser and missles I was doing great. However, I was starting to get bugs all over the place. THe landcape was getting weird bugs. The third (seventh) level, the game went black. Dead. So, in all, I racked up 110,000 points but I have to put an asterik there. Any body have a similar story? Has anyone seen the fourth boss? What are you hints? Here are a few of mine: 1. Get homing missles not regular missles. Homing missiles enable you to shoot enemies not in front of you, which I think is a must when things get thick. 2. When you get the poweruped weapons, juke left and right (up and down if you are playing w/ the Lynx vertical), You got to get them before they get shots off. You also spray the screen with so that you can get baddies before they shoot you. 3. Use your bombs liberally and stay within the blast zone. You can use the bomb as a shield by flying in the radius. I tend to use them with bosses and that hover craft with the powerups when I don't have powered up weapons or missles. I also use them when I see two big planes coming at you. 4. In general keep moving. They tend to fire on your position, so that if you keep moving around, you don't give them the opportunity to pin you down. 5. I hold the Lynx the normal way. That is the Lynx horizontally. I find I can control the game better. 6. Try to have the powered up laser when facing the bosses. The laser is absolutely awesome when facing a boss. They cut them down so fast an before they start peppering you with bullets. Look at the first level bosses, the guns on the railroad tracks. You can destroy the first one before you even get to see the second one. I also tend to stay at the far left side of the screen. This is so that I have time to dodge bullets. You never get hit from behind during boss screens. 7. Learn the firing tendencis of the mid sized enemies, like the bomber and hover craft. The bomber fires from the tips of the wings. THe hover craft with the power ups shoot in three directions in set directions. You can fly between the streams of bullets. Still, power ups are really the only way to get anywhere in this game.
  2. Oh great...Now I am addicted to this friggin hard game. I have now gotten past the third level boss with two continues and now I reached the fourth level just beyond the space scene? How far have you guys reached? How many levels are there in Raiden? I really like the graphics in this game and the fact that the game is hard sucks me in. It has become an ego thing.
  3. Carl, you got that right. If you don't get the power up early your life is brutally short. Actually, I drop a bomb as soon as I see that hover thing as those bastards pepper you as soon as you see them. You can stay in the bomb radius and be safe.
  4. Again, the question is is the Lynx a better deal now not then. BTW, NE, what games did you play for the GB when you got it? Do you still play the GB? Talk about a deal. I saw used GBs go for $10 at Gamespot with $5.00 a game. Fortunately I got the Lynx today with the prices much less ($50.00 for a Lynx in box with 10 games off Ebay) than it is going for now. Also, the GBA technically is not totally superior as the Lynx has more colors, a bigger screen, back lighting and better scaling. Also, is the quality of the Lynx library better as a whole? THe biggest thing that the GBA has over the Lynx is its ability to save games. The password system is really imperfect. For many games, a save feature is a must. The question here, is with the prices currently what they are, is the Lynx the better deal. Another factor... is the Lynx a better collector's item? I give GBA its due, but I still give the Lynx the nod if I had to choose one over the other considering overall price. BTW, does anyone else think NE's avatar is little bit obscene?
  5. Smiley and Gunstar are both right. The library for the GBA is off the wall huge but most of the games are juvenile and poorly made. I find I collect for the Lynx because of its limited but solid library and I just choose the top five GBA games. There is absolutely no way I will pay $30 to $40 a pop (!!) for GBA games unless they are the absolute best in any platform. That means Mario Advance, Tony Hawk 3, Wars Advance. Smiley, I know with the sheer quantity of titles and the superior hardware of the GBA, there is going to be some games superior to the Lynx. My problem is that there shoulda been so much more. The fact that it took Ninetendo 10 tears to get a color system superior to the Lynx is an indictment enough.
  6. I have been "playing" Raiden on my Lynx. Actually it is more like getting my ass kicked in a few minutes. The best I did so far is getting to the second boss screen after two continues. The graphics are awesome and faithful to the arcade, however, the game is so stacked against you its ridiculous. They throw so many baddies at you in a very limited screen that it is imossible to avoid them and the stream of bullets they thro against you. AND your fighter moves so slow. I play this game the "normal" way, by holding the Lynx the regular way. I can't control the game by holding it vertical. I also use my bombs ANY time a big plane that holds a power up comes by. They are the worst and you absolutely need a power up to get far in the game. Any other hints?
  7. I was playing Super Mario World 2 at GameSpot and I have to admit I was impressed with the graphics, the game play and the efficient design of the system. I know, no backlight (If they can put men on the moon why can't they make a portable that has a backlight that you can turn off and still play the game?), but the system is not the power hungry hog that the Lynx is. Is the Lynx still a better system for the money? How are the games on the GBA as a whole compared to the Lynx? I know Super Mario World 2 and Tony Hawk 3 are tremendous on the GBA, but are the games worth it (They are priced in the $30 as a whole) compared to the Lynx. Does the GBA provide superior capabilities and can you get more gameplay as a whole compared to the Lynx?
  8. Is anyone coming out with this game too? Another graphically stunning game for the Lynx. Saw this on Dodgson's page. Is this Carl's Secret Lynx Project #1?"
  9. Oh, I forgot... My best finds are trades I make with fellow Lynx collectors, many who post here. It is really a great way to increase your collection and, more importantly, it builds contacts and friendships within the collecting community. I made trades with people around the world and was able to increase my collection by at least ten cards through this process. It also gratifying to know I was able to help someone else's collection without the hassle and competition of Ebay. I hope all of you out there can take advantage of the Lynx community, which although is not as numerous as the 2600ers, is extremely knoweledgeable and helpful to other collecotrs.
  10. We all appreciate you posting your sale, however, don't try to pass off the Gate of Zendocon as the "most sought after" collectible Lynx game. Heck, it is not even the most collectible game you are selling. Checkered Flag is more collectible. Zendocon is not even rare. When you put out there Lemmings, Raiden, Aliens v. Predator prototype, then you can put "one of the most sought after" tag next to the game. Zendocon is a nice game, nothing more.

7800, Can you tell us when it will come out, by whom and the price?
  12. Ok. I you want to send inquiries to Paul, his email is above.
  13. I am bringing up my thread, "A free Plug" so that you can contact Paul Robinson. I ask that you be patient as Paul's job caises him to travel around the world. He will get back to you and might send you his updated inventory.
  14. I also agree with Impsycho although I find Cybervirus very good graphically. Still, the games on the Lynx on the whole are good graphically. I really can't stand Pit Fighter's cruddy colors and retina burning graphics, also T-Tris and Batman Returns have sucky graphics. QIX is just like the arcade so I can't really complain about it. It's appeal is its simplicity.
  15. My best score I have is a vendor that I use to buy games. I mentioned his name before in a previous post, Paul Robinson. He sells all of his games for $9 a pop including shipping. I got Battlezone, Warbirds, Zarlor Mercenary. Rygar, Gauntlet, at $9 apiece, new in the box. What is ironic is that I got his name after losing one of his Ebay auctions. Other than that, I just won an Ebay auction for a Lynx Grey Matters T-Shirt for $5.95 plus shipping from Heavy Sixer. I guess that makes me a card carrying Lynx fanatic.
  16. In no particular order: 1. Klax 2. Shanghai 3. Blue Lightening 4. STUN Runner 5. Checkered Flag
  17. I am intrigued. Is there a link to these magazines or can someone make an adobe document so that I can see these magazines. Also, were there any magazines that commented or reviewed Lynx games? I'm interested in how these reviewers thought of the Lynx games at the time.
  18. A.P.B. I love this game in the arcades with all of its secret scoring and breakneck pace. The Lynx game seems to have all the bells and whistles, however the controls are a real drawback and provide a frustrating experience. The joypad and buttons really do not go well with this game and the result is, like Robotron, you are constantly thinking of the controls rather than enjoyng the aspects of the game that make it worthwhile in the arcades. A disappointment
  19. I believe you go back to A. Am I the only person out there who thinks that Dark Caverns is an overrated bore? It is like Berzerk but noone is firing at you. More mazes but very repetitive. It doesn't hold my interest at all.
  20. Pitfall II definitely is the most beautiful of all the 2600 games. The waterfall effect is stunning. Enduro, especially right before daybreak is incredible. I put my vote in for Dragonfire for its rendering of the treasures. Keystone Kapers and Riddle of the Sphynx are colorful. Really, you got to narrow the list to Imagic and Activision games. They knew how to wring the most out of the system
  21. You think Rampart is easy?!! I thought in the later rounds the game is an absolute bear to play and is harder than the Arcade. How do you get to the island? I never did. Have you went through the entire game? What are your hints? Klax is challenging but I don't think it is easy. I think Switchblade II is easy to play. How about Gordo? Scrapyard Dog? Robosquash? Football?
  22. Carl Forhan has kept the flame alive for the Lynx with his published titles. I played a couple of them and I really liked Lexis and Cybervirus the most. I like scrabble games and Lexis with its complex scoring and secret moves make it deep and satisfying. Cybervirus graphically is stunning and with the Battlewheels engine, shows off the capabilities of the Lynx. I read some reviews of Championship Rally at IGNs site and they said that the game is based on memorization. How does it stack up to the leader of racing games on the Lynx, Checkered Flag? Crystal Mines II does not count because it is an expansion pack although it really expands the game and gives it unlimited replay value. What are your impression on the Songbird games?
  23. Uh... Play an average game of Skeet Shoot , any game where you take one shot and then hum the game out the window.
  24. I have played some games on the Lynx that absolutely kick my ass time and time again. These games are outregeously hard, although I find some enjoyable. Here are the games I can't seem to master: 1. Raiden- Boy this game is hard. 2. Robotron- I wish there was a better control mechanism. This game is hard enough without controls that I have to think to use. 3. Zarlor Mercenary- I love the game but I just get wailed on by endless enemies. 4. Shadow of the Beast- Good fighting game with high difficulty level. 5 A.P.B.- THis is a driving game where I wish there was a steering wheel and acceerator like the arcade. Kinda detracts as it looks like all the other elements of the arcade are in there. Mentions- Batman Returns, Rampart in the later rounds- I think this game is harder than the arcade with those little bastards running around when the enemy lands as well as those red ships firing those bombs and the wall shapes out of Escher art.
  25. That Phantasy Star can apologize nine times til doomsday, however, his auction would never have been pulled if an alert and conscietious Atariager did not flag it and notify the community. This whole mess just points out what Nimtene and others have said before although I could not believe how extreme the depths of stupidity of the buyer turned overly enthusiatic seller. This guy could not even understand English, yet overbid and then thought he got the real deal on the auction and tried to sell it and made some bold faced lies in his description. This points out again that the sellers are having a field day on Ebay as they can always count on some ill-informed people out there to place some outrageous bids. How many times have you seen a "Rare" California Games or Power Factor on Ebay? Battlewheels carts are now coming out of the woodwork as the word comes out that it is Rare. Videology is right and as I said before there is nothing wrong with making a profit. However, these repro auctions, especially reproductions from games THAT ARE STILL LICENSED AND CURRENTLY SOLD are questionable, shady, self-interested ventures and no amount of posturing on how selfless you are to the Atari community will change that.
