New Aliens v. Preditor "Reproduction" auction on E
bergbros replied to bergbros's topic in Atari Lynx
Nimtene, I am with you. The vendor pulled his picture of his copying technology from this message board in a huff. Came across the cart indeed. The auction for the A v. P said he pulled another prototype and copied A v. P on top of the card. I think the sellers are getting wise to this as his auction went for half the first auction. Hey, I believe in capitalism and what the market will bear and all that, however, I blame the BUYERS who rush headlong into these auctions without doing due diligence. A collector who thinks they are getting the real deal or thinks they are going to get resale value on this stuff will be sorely be disappointed. BTW, I got a response from Carl at SOngbird and he will not put A v. P on a PCB. I admire the stance. BTW, Carl, I got Lexis and I love the game. I love scrablle and word games. I think the game bears more resemblance to Klax than Tetris. I love the scoring. -
Spook, there are so many websites out there selling games, both homegrown and published. Of course Ebay has lots of stuff, however, there are sellers like songbird which has a link on the "Links" section of the Lynx page, as well as www. telegames.com and www.multimedia1.com to name a few, however this list is no where near exahausitve. Of course, there are some here who are willing to trade with you....

New Aliens v. Preditor "Reproduction" auction on E
bergbros replied to bergbros's topic in Atari Lynx
Well, that repro sold for $110 and change. To the seller, I say congratulations. You sold the "repro" for double than it is really worth. These "repros" can be made by anyone with the right technology. Heck, Hozer Video does this all the time with the 2600 and sells them for $30 a pop. This prototype thing is getting out of hand and the sellers are lick ing their chops. Any coincidence that there is another one of these auctions on Ebay right now? That guy just put the game on a "real prototype" card just to jack uo the interest. Want to bet that more of these A v. P auctions will spring up? From the response of the vendor above, you bet A v. P will not seem as rare as it once was. -
New Aliens v. Preditor "Reproduction" auction on E
bergbros replied to bergbros's topic in Atari Lynx
The auction is now up to $91.00. Way too much for my blood especially if its a reproduction. I emailed Carl Forhan at Songbird to see if he can burn the Rom on a PCB. The seller is going to make out like a bandit. Prediction: The card will settle on $250.00. Anyone want to make a prediciion? -
Your next assignment is getting every treasure in Pitfall, rolling Infiltrate (Any Game) getting through all levels in Laser Gates, getting all clues without cheating in Swordquest without humming the game through the window, and rolling the game of your hero, Spiderman. Once you do that, I will worship at the allmighty Red Eye altar of StanJr. Very unimpressed bergbros.

I saw this auction come up for bid on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1363488531. The seller has a good feedback number but I find the auction questionable. A reproduction rather than prototype? How did he come by this card? Is the card like the recent proto of A v. P that was bid to such ridiculous levels before? How finished is this one? How good is the game? I am very leery of these auctions

The Lynx was truly a syatem ahead of its time but some games on it were truly awful. I looked down my list and I found five games that only the die hard collector will have: 1. Pitfighter- Terrible graphics, gameplay and controls. And it was a horrible arcade game to boot. 2. Batman Returns- Absolutely impssible to play with boring graphics. 3. Gordo 106- Terribly oppressive storyline. Terribly boring game. 4. Super Off Road- Buggy and unplayable. 5. Basketbrawl- An offensive game with no redeeming qualities. Dishonorable Mention- Cyberball

I beat the first stage of Spiderman for the first time today
bergbros replied to KAZ's topic in Atari 2600
Spiderman definitely is a hoot and even better than Crazy Climber, the game it takes its inspiration from. I like the challenge when you rech the tower before the mega bomb and you have to get the webon those diagnol parts. It aint easy. Also, the added danger of the super bomb being activated if you take too many bombs and criminals. FInally 6 buildings as opposed to three in Crazy climber and the ability to SWING (A great feature) and you got an addictive game and an underrated one from PArker Bros. BTW, not all PArker Bros games were good- Amidar and Suoer CObra come to mind. And I am not a fan of Tutankham. -
Never went more than one day without crappy weather. You lucked out there somehow. Have to take advantage and blow everything in sight because you will never have that opportunity again. I played Robot Tank and in the later rounds the tanks get too damn fast and shoot all overthe place to get far. In later rounds I actually don't go after the tanks and keep them behind me so they won't destroy me and wait till the weather lets up. That little trick is a downside to the game in my opinion. You can just keep the baddies behind you and you can't get blasted. I wish there was something in the game that allowed you to fix your tank after it gets damaged. Once it gets hit in the later rounds, forget it. I also wish the game had some power ups that would enhance your tanks abilities. Also, a little variety in the enemies and putting obstacles in would relieve the repetitiveness. All and all a fine game and beats Battlezone on the 2600 in playability.

Ahhh... my favorite subject... Why Swordquest was the biggest waste of time in 2600 history. Stan is right. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to placing the items in Earthworld or Fireworld and Earthworld was absolutely insane in what you had to do to get all the clues. The last clue in particular, there is absolutely no way you can get. There is an absolutely essential walkthrough that someone will have to be kind to post the link. The absolutely worst part about the game is that if you got all the clues, there is no reward. No fanfare, no awesome ending. Nothing. Swordquest coulda been great. Instead, it was half baked, ill conceived, and an insult to adventure lovers. Get Raiders of the Lost Ark or Riddle of the Sphinx. You'll thank me later.

My I ask where you got it? Lemmings is definitely a great game for the Lynx and harder to find than most.

I hate to harp on this question but I am intrigued and no one has answered it yet. I really liked the 720 game when it was in the arcade and I saw that it was in the works for the Lynx judging from their literature, however it was never released. How far along was the project? Is there any ROM image of the game? Is anyone interested in doing it? How would it play on the Lynx? THe arcade had a unique joystick, which really is a paddle.

I read EGM once and I thought it was incredibly juvenile. I don't know how they get off saying this stuff without ANY factual foundation. The Lynx has on the whole solid games and the technology for a 13+ year old system is incredible. Needless to say, I'll take the Lynx over 900 versions of Mario any day off the week.

I would like to give a plug to an Ebay vendor who has an awesome selection of Lynx games which he sold to me at great prices. Paul Robinson is his name and he can be contacted by email at stormin_91935@yahoo.com. He sold me Battlezone 2000, Warbirds, Rygar and Zarlor Mercenary for $9 apiece including shipping. That beats ebay. And his communications are good and courteous and shipping is prompt. He has an inventory list he can give you. This guy is a welocme respite from the Ebay blues.

How far advanced was 720? I really was fond of it in the arcades, although I sucked at it. I might even pay for it if Songbird or another third party would develop it. I would be curious as to the controls because this is the ultimate spin game and the joystick was a reinforced spinning thing.

No... Double Dragon is not the best port of an arcade game for the 2600. Maybe the most unplayable port, but not even close to the best. The previous ones mentioned, Stargate, Ms. Pac Man, Frogger and Star Trek: SOS. They all closely adhere to their originals. I will put in as the most amazing translation Crossbow. Frankly, I never thought this gun game would ever translate well, however, the 2600 got the gameplay down. A real hard game, too.

Enduro is indeed the best racing game for the 2600. You notice the subtle things that make this game satisfying, like the crack of dawn, the way your car drifts in the turns, the patterns of the cars, the way your car handles in the snow, etc. It really is amazing. Other than Indy 500, there really is no other racing game that approaches Enduro, even Pole Position. I was able to get to eleven days one time in my youth in the eighties. In the later stages you really have to use the break because you can't just race through. The cars form a wall a times.

With all due respect, to paraphrase Roger Ebert, I Absolutely hate Zookeeper, hate it, hate it, hate it. I did not like the running and jumping in circles ad nauseum, I did not like the crappy graphics. I thought the game was a rip off of other games like Donkey Kong (even with the moneys!). The worst, though, is probably the most annoying, grating, mind numbingly bad sound effects in the history of arcade games which I belived cause heart attacks in some people. The 2600 probably could save the gameplay elements of Zoo Keeper. The problem is Zookeeper was a boring arcade game.

You raise a good point on knowledge of the prices from the outside vendors like Multimedia. I remember one auction for a kit case where the starting bid was $9.00. Now, I know on Multimedia they were selling the kit case for $12.50 so I put in a Max bid of $11.00. Soon, I was outbid and the auction ended at $15.00. I got the case for $12.50 plus Robotron to save on the shipping. The other thing I will not do is buy a prototype. That is strictly a collector thing. I really am not interested in a game like Fat Bobby that may or may not be complete and anyway is not a compelling game. A $3 Rampart is much more fulfilling. (And I still can't put that game down).

THe same story as the 2600 is now happening on the Lynx. That is extreme overbidding on a games, even common ones. RIght now a Lemmings game is up to $61.00. Yep. That makes it more expensive than the original price. A Rygar game, no rarity, went for $16.00. Xenophobe went for $52.00. I fear that the Lynx is getting to be like the 2600 with games being overbid. It is even worse than the 2600 as there is not many of these games being put up for auction compared to the 2600. I love the system, but I can't justify spending that much money for a few of these games.

I need some impressions on the following games: Batman Returns, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Dracula, Gauntlet, Power Factor, Paperboy, Scrapyard Dog, Switchblade, Toki, Turbo Sub and Viking Child. These games I guess you would call, second tier games- games that are not bad, but not usually on anyones top 5 list. Are any of them worth a look and if so at what price? I understand Gauntlet is not really like the arcade version which is a shame. I pretty much have almost all of the top 20 games on Jung's list and I want to see if there are any worthwhile games beyond it.
