1. Hmmm, I'm quite surprised by the responses on here. I thought a lot of other people would feel the same about it... I guess it's just me. Although that Archon game that I have was sealed, and it stayed like that for months until I couldn't resist opening it up to play the game. But afterwards it did feel like I had ruined it or something. I suppose it's knowing it's still factory sealed, untouched, and it's made it all these years like that... I dunno, it just feels sacriligious to open it up and let the slow degridation begin. Maybe I'm just weird.
2. L.A. Swat is a real fun game. If you like to play A8 Games, you may join the HSC? If I'm feeling fun and have the time, I play those games that are proposed to play in there.... So, I have no special game I'm playing on the A8. On the PC I have to finish DooM³ R.o.E. , before it, I played Beyond Good & Evil, and Area 51 is waiting to be released at July the 1st here in germany. 883017 Yeah, I posted my high score for Mountain king in there, I think it's beaten everyone elses. The high score club has given me more incenitive to play those games to try and beat the scores, it makes them a lot more fun. I can't get my camera to work on my PC though, so if I want to post a score it means I'll have to play it on an emu and take a screenshot. It's more harder playing them on a keyboard though.
3. playing at the moment? I'm playing Los Angeles SWAT & Ninja (800XL), GTA San Andreas & Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) I have a DC as well but I haven't played anything on that for ages.
4. Here's mine, my parents bought me an Atari 800XL for £200 when I was 8 back in 1984, the first game I bought was Quasimodo. My nephu (sp?) also used to give me tapes with games copied onto them. I loved this computer and really enjoyed the games on it, but none of my friends had one, they all seemed to have Spectrums (and a very rare few with a C64) for some reason which had way worse graphics. Hmmm maybe Atari weren't advertising enough. Anyway, I really wanted a disk drive so I could load games quicker and copy loads of them off of my nephu. A few months later or maybe a year there was an offer in an eletrical store for an Atari 800XL with a 1050 disk drive for £200. So, we took the 800XL back to the shop, got the £200 back, and then bought the Atari 800XL with disk drive for £200 Eventually I ended up with loads and loads of great games copied to disk, in 1992 I was still enjoying playing my 800XL. By this time the Atari ST was attracting my interests with it's flashy graphics, my mum said I could have one if we sold the 800XL, I didn't want to let it go but I thought it'd be worth it for an ST. What a mistake, I didn't enjoy the games anywhere near as much as the games on the 800XL, in fact I didn't enjoy the games that much at all. Ever since I was trying to get an 800XL again but could never find one anywhere, fastforward to the year 2000 when I had my DC I had a look on the net for one and bought it for £40 with Star Raiders II and never looked back Now I'm trying to get all the games (the original versions though) that I really enjoyed playing as a kid. So, what's your story?
5. If you are a gamer and not a collector, what system you wanna play, 400/800 XL XE 8bit computer systems ? if you answered yes, then go check out the flash cartridges, APE software and sio2pc cable over at atarimax.com, then hit atarimania.com, Hang out here, life is good! 882615 I don't mind playing anything, although I do have an 800XL at home. Thanks for the links, I'll check them out, I had a quick scan of that flash cartridge page. What do you do with them, do you upload roms from your PC onto them or save games that are actually on your Atari 8-bit system to them? They sound good but I'd still want to eventually end up getting the original games. Yeah, I think I'll hang out here, it seems like a good forum, it's great being able to discuss the Atari 8-bit with other dedicated fans. It's what I grew up with as a kid.
6. Heh, sorry about the text speak but it was the only way I could fit the topic title in. I just couldn't do it, it would seem too much of a shame, like it'd be ruining it or something. That's why when I see an Atari 8-bit game that I really want but it's still factory sealed I'm gutted and don't bother buying it. I'm a gamer not a collector so there'd be no point if I can't open it.
7. Yeah, I mean reached the end or at least completed the variety of levels on offer before it loops round again. The games seem so much easier now I'm older compared to when I was a nipper. As far as manuals and packages all of my tapes are complete except for Blue Max and Necromancer, there's no inlay (is that the right word?) in the cases. And all my carts don't have boxes or manuals except for Archon.
8. I've got, TAPE Ninja (completed) NYC (completed) Olllies Follies One Man And His Droid Rockford (Crystal Raider on side B) Spellbound Spy Hunter Mercenary Chuckie Egg (think I've completed this one) Necromancer LA SWAT Ghostbusters The Goonies Freaky Factory Action Biker Atack Of The Mutant Camels Blue Max Caverns Of Khafka Journey To The Planets (The one I have is by JV Software and I was surprised to see it got a 9 on the rarity scale on Atarimania, guess I was really lucky to get it for just £2.00 on ebay ) (completed) CART Pacman Popeye (completed) Rescue On Fractualas Star Raiders II (completed) Miner 2049er Mountain King Pitfall II Moon Patrol (completed) Donkey Kong JR Donkey Kong Archon (boxed like new) (completed I think)
9. Like how do they find out how rare a game is? It seems to me that the majority of Atari 8-bit games are rare since they very rarely show up on ebay, even the ones that'd be considered common, like Action Biker.
10. I got 97,520 last night on the original, but I can't get my camera to work on my PC. So I had a go on the emu and got 85,260, it's way harder using the keys though mk.bmp
11. It seems weird that they'd make an ending like that though, it doesn't really make any sense, why not even a simple 'congratulations' instead. Maybe there is a way to a proper ending somehow, like maybe completing the planets in a certain order, or touching the planet a certain number of times before your gas runs out, maybe seven times since there were seven planets in the first place. *Shrugs* (crappy examples I know) Because as well as you saying that you've heard of a proper ending, I also read this on Gfaqs. Now... here's the odd thing. This is my conclusion after having spent an hour chasing this planet around under the Atari800Win emulator. However, I don't *remember* the game ending this way during my childhood. I remember having found a way to enter the atmosphere of this planet - after several attempts - and then landing on a landing pad, and *then* the game ended. That feels like a much more solid ending than simply running out of gas. But, for the life of me, I can't reproduce this endgame in the only known ROM dump of the game. Either the ROM is faulty or my recollection is wrong. Can't say which with any certainty. http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/atari8/fil...e_planets_a.txt
12. Post a link in here so we can have a look. I'd post a link but since my PC broke down I haven't been able to buy anything for ages, and now there's nothing on my ebay history. But I've got my eyes on a coupla games right now though. I was recently going to buy a scart lead that plugs into the monitor socket on most of the Atari 8-bit computers, since the modulator (is that the right thing?) has aged on mine and gives out a bit of fuzzy picture. He only accepts paypal though.
13. It's a great game and I've completed all the planets, but when I get beamed into my spaceship and get put in space there's a blue planet which I try to land on and I just appear in space again. I'll go find the blue planet again, and the same thing happens again and again. Any help would be appreciated.
