Is your Jaguar PAL or NTSC? Mine is PAL and I have a lot of trouble syncing to the OSSC... In general I need to power cycle the OSSC a couple of times before it syncs. I ended up giving up on it and have bought a Genesis HD Retrovision cable + Jag2Gen adapter.

PAL model, that was the what I was having to do with mine.

I'm going to do an NTSC mod and see if that eliminates the issue

No, there isn't at the moment. I really need to sort this out...

I tend to just announce this on Twitter, as it's my main outlet for info. I know this isn't ideal, as there are plenty of people who don't use Twitter! :)

I have Twitter, but have notifications on my phone turned off for it. Good old-fashioned email or subscribed thread alert is enough for me.

I've had issues like this myself. For me I've found for me it's connections on the cart edge / connector which are marginal and sometimes causing a read or write issue, as after removing and cleaning the cart and / or connector the issue goes away.

Wouldn't this be just a read error as if the cart image wasn't written correctly it would already fail in the GD menu page?

  4. I would just be interested to know if the majority of the work is done by the Jags 68000 (as it would be in a real ST/Amiga/Megadrive etc) and then the other parts of the Jags hardware are repurposed used to emulate the custom chips that those other computers/consoles have? If that makes sense?

Ok will give that a go and see if things improve.

    Only a 68000, (un?)fortunately.

I'm gonna go with clever code and magic and a lot of time investment.

So does that mean you could port amiga games too (because of the 68000)? If yes, would it be easier/harder to do than the ST?

    Thanks.

Apart from 'magic' how is it possible to run these games on the Jaguar? Does the Jag and ST share enough common hardware that the gaps can be filled in with some clever code to make these games work? Or is it a kind of emulation? Or both?

Just interested to know from a completely uneducated point of view?

  8. Anybody have issues with their jag locking sync with OSSC when the system is started or rebooted?

Sometimes mine will get sync straight away, other times the OSSC seems have trouble locking the sync down (usually need to switch the Jag on and off several times before I can get it sync again)

Not sure if I bought this scart lead back in the day or it one I got from Atari

The switch is either on or off. I tried to open the end but its stubborn and won't move so I am not forcing it. When I was playing about with the ST I was using RGB Scart to get the best image out of it. I wonder if the switch of this cable is the composite / rgb switch for pin 16 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART )

Same as the Scart that came with my brother's Jaguar from Beatties in the UK

Regarding success with SD cards. I tried a random one I had laying around, and had minimal success. I tried a new MicroCenter brand, with no success. I got this SanDisk, and have had great success for all of the titles at the link below, with the exception of the five mentioned below. For testing these games, I played them enough to get to some kind of gameplay for each (some for a minute, others for a few minutes), so I can't say that I did any thorough testing. For the ones in error, I tried a fresh format before copying each image, and each time, got the same error.

    LINK REMOVED

    • Black Ice - White Noise: Boots to black screen after the Atari Jaguar logo
    • Demolition Man: The opening cinematic loads fine, when it switches to the gameplay cinematic, Stallone looks both directions, stares at the screen pointing his gun, and the screen goes black
    • Robinsons Requiem: Boots up and loads fine. As soon as I click on the main screen, presumably to move my character, it goes to a black screen. I can access menu options without a problem. This one also seems to be the worst as far as needing to retry loading it a few times before it gets to this point
    • Vid Grid: As reported by others, stuck on Loading screen with the Vid Grid logo in the background
    • World Tour Racing: Confirmed not working by SainT. I got all the way to the track selection, and the screen froze selecting a track

One other general thing, is that some games will randomly have a high pitched static sound for less than a second. It seems to happen when switching tracks (or something like that). For example in Dragon's Lair, it will do this sometimes after it accepts my command, and starts playing the next animation. This also happens often with Varuna's Forces. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing in this game, but it happens most times when I switch between various "cinematics" using the directional pad.

Overall, nice work. Can play most of the library without issue.

I have the same issues with Vid Grid and World Tour Racing, also Battlemorph refuses to load after the Jag screen

Have you tried adjusting the volume in-game?  This can be done by starting any game type, pressing pause any time during gameplay, and then press B.  This will reveal the control for SFX volume (press A for music volume control).  Press up and down to adjust the volume.

I believe this in-game adjustment is saved to the EEPROM on the cart, which could explain why there is a difference between the two copies of the game.

    Perfect, that solved it! Thankyou

  12. Just received a Tempest 2000 cart I bought from ebay.

The cart boots fine, the music plays fine, but the SFX (blaster noises and speech) are very faint? Could it be just a pin that needs cleaning or something else?

It's not my jag as I have another Tempest 2000 cart that behaves normally.
