It doesn't act like this using the cartridge on the original hardware... Looks like a Stella emulation issue to me.

Hi there, I'm having an issue where Stella freezes randomly while playing Stampede. Same thing happens on both NTSC and PAL ROMs. I'm using Stella 6.1.2 x64 on Windows (same thing happened on 6.1.1). Other games play with no issues. This happens only in Stampede. Any insights? ? Thanks.
